How did you last die?

Easy solution to test this. Acquire darkness, spawn turret, ???, PROFIT!

tl;dr Tweaker bad day challenger (15 Str, 10 Dex, 12 Int, 11 Per) survives for 30 days to die in a stupid fight with 2 shocker brutes.

So i managed to keep a bad day challenger alive, finding a lucky empty farm and sleeping through my amphetamine withdrawal, having enough food in the farm fields.

After getting him moderately skilled and equipped, i went to town to loot a bit and to search a better car. All the good shops were on the other side of the town, so i started to gradually kill them zombies and loot the houses. During that day i have found almost all i needed - a functional APC, a couple of those big vehicles with roller drums, plenty of cargo trucks and electric cars. I managed to get to a garage and find an acetylene torch, welding goggles (although i could craft those), a welder and other useful stuff, a nearby library and dojo gave me a lot of cool books, so i went back to the farm to work on those skills and then come back for the APC.

All went fine so a couple of weeks later i get back to town in a light survivor suit and a survivor mask and other survivor gear, unarmed 3, karate, taekwondo and other basic martial arts feeling pretty confident and ready for the midgame. Now the only thing i didn’t have was a hacksaw and i didn’t feel like wasting acetylene charges or batteries on removing vehicle parts, especially since i had a lot of that removal to do.

So, long story short, i see that hardware store at the far side of the town and i decide to go there to find that hacksaw. On my way there i murder countless zombies, a couple of brutes, which are total pushovers with unarmed 4 karate or taekwondo (i don’t like taekwondo for it’s knockback. It’s only good against more than a couple of enemies at the same time). I kill a shocker with my Browning BLR and i get overconfident.

Now here comes a hulk. I engage it in melee and manage to keep him stunned with karate, until he gets a tile away from me. Now i do something stupid and let him get a hit on me, sending me flying and adding about 25 pain. This is where i understand that i only have codeine and tramadol against pain and i eat a cocaine instead of codeine and he sends me flying a second time, getting my pain to 45. Now i understand that it’s past time that i start running and i do so to a nearby store and get the hulk on a counter and pound him to death with my forked spear (he was in law health).

Well, i get out of that alive and i get even more confident and i go further - to meet a couple of shocker brutes. Now i thought that they are some sort of regular brutes with electricity and i decide to fight them. I somehow manage to kill one and had the other one on the other side of a car. So, with half health and a lot of pain, i make the stupid decision to try and fight the other one, which sends me flying a couple of times and kills me, since i had nothing to manage the pain.

Why can’t i run away when things get complicated?

You know how the sayin goes- “Who do ye think ye are”- this case, your answer would’a been " A brute of a man twice the size of the average Z’ "

wouldn’t be !!FUN!! pretending you weren’t heh. Besides…

The problem is i got so frustrated that i almost lostt incentive to play the game. I tried some more starts, but i don’t manage to keep them alive. The last one almost made it, but i succumbed to the infection, not having found any cure :(.

I tend to get a character up to a stable existance, then get bored. Death is Fun if it isn’t cheap. o3o

you know there’s no winning the game, My last bad-day tweaker run lasted about two weeks ( real life time ) and it never died, I’ve instead moved on…
I wouldn’t recommend any cheese but there’s always some available if your itch for CDDA hasn’t yet been satisfied

Giant Centipede munched my head in. At least the Superalloy MBR Vest I found kept my torso safe!

That said, I’m having a -lot- of trouble surviving the first day at all, lately. Any suggestions for alternate starting locations that may result in me dying less than the Evac Shelters do?

(Also I may give Really Bad Day a try one of these days, for shits and giggles.)

Yeah, i know, but i just want to try some things first, like getting a tweaker bad day through alpha threshold for some 18/15/15/15 stats and trying a bit of the stuff i didn’t do before, like triffid groves, temples, fungal blooms etc.

Then, after i am satisfied with the results, i will move on to another game. I only got to CDDA after getting bored of ADOM :). I have no clue what i will play after CDDA though, but hopefully by the time i manage to do everything here, there will come out something good (fallout 4, i am looking at you in expectance). But enough of this offtopic

You found superalloy? Luckkyyy!

Always get head armor ASAP. Normal head enc does not give a penalty, so load up.

(Being hit in the head is likely to kill you).

And remember you also have eyes, so get some sort of glasses as well.

Always sound advice to live by, unless you have no eyes. o3o

Well, I made ChazMoth both nearsighted and farsighted, so he wears bifocals from the start, but that’s all good advice!

I think my next recorded run is gonna be with standard ChazMoth though, rather than attempting to do the naked run - better if I can start with at least some basic clothes and supplies rather than with nothing.

With that in mind, should I stick to the Evac shelter, or try a different spawn point for a change?

Also, saddragon because I saw how few mods you used in that world. owo

Can’t complain about quick deaths if you’re starting with 4STR >_> sorry for pointing out the obvious

The evac shelter is a nice and ( most of the time ) safe starting place, i wouldn’t recommend starting elsewhere unless you’re looking for even more !!FUN!! … or have something particular inmind

Gun stores. Either you get swarmed from being in town, or you find enough stuff to fend off everything in the area. Guaranteed to be !!FUN!! either way.

I suppose that’s true, but I did run pretty well with 6 strength in a run once, and I kinda like the challenge of being a frail mothman. Also I needed some extra skillpoints to give myself a little start with bionics, and I didn’t wanna sacrifice my other stats for that.

But yeah, I’ll stick with the evac shelter for now, hopefully my next one won’t be in the middle of a swamp like that!

got confused there for a moment, Thought that fragile/frail/flimsy perks effects were applied dynamically based on your limb HP ( scales with STR ) But they actually seem to reduce your limb HP by static amounts regardless of your STR.

Tl;dr- You’re better off than i thought xD
good luck on your next run

Oh, I don’t actually take the frail perk, I’m just saying I put myself at the minimum amount of strength because my character would not be very strong, in-character.

(Also because I’m amused at the thought of him surviving long enough to get a strength-boosting implant or mutation and just becoming nerd-hulk.)

My baddayer bought the farm after standing a bit too long on a corpse of zed grenadier.
Well that was an intresting and !!!FUN!!! (and not EVEN slightest unfair) way to go.
Next time heavy survivor gear, roleplaying just gets you killed.

Of all things it was an honest to RNG wild Jabberwock not involved in a mission from an NPC. I was going to a small lake in the deep woods on day 1 so I could sake off my alcohol withdrawal. Ended up getting chased by the thing just before dusk drew in. Punched my face in after it ran me to ground. had set several forest fires and it just kept coming. No shotgun or guns to take chunks out of it. I will have my revenge on another some day!

Died by C4 explosion … wanted to break a wall, armed the C4, dropped the wrong one … this feels so … STUPID!
