How did you last die?

After a harrowing, near-death encounter in the middle of a highly populated area and pulping the corpses I decide to duck into a house and reload my SMG and decide on a route outwards. Get interrupted while reloading by a bear which is already on top of me. Drop the SMG for the kukri, get both arms broken in two rounds. Bear proceeds to munch me while I try to run.

Still not sure WHY that bear was there, but it was pretty funny.

  • Tank bot
  • 2 spitters spotted me (even when I had night vision). Spitted at me, then grabbed me.
  • Grabboid did 5x attacks after I did one.
  • Prison escape. Caught between a brute and a security bot.

So. Take five.

Seems early game is a bit hard nowadays.

  • Surrounded and dissolved by black slime in the middle of the night.

  • Poked by a giant worm and started turning into a giant mold colony. Was incapacitated for days trying to find a way to cure it. Finally my limited food stash ran out and I was forced to make a desperate night run in search of food. Attacked by a couple zombies and too broken to have any hope of fighting them off.

NPC crept up behind me in the dark while I was looting a house and pumped 4 rounds of 9mm in my back. My fault honestly, I ā€˜didā€™ know you couldnā€™t count on total darkness preventing angry NPCs bloodhounding their way after you. When he disappeared off the map I just figured heā€™d tangled with some zombies and was out of my hair for good.

On that note, how the hell can I tell what someone is wielding, I swear it used to show up in the ā€˜lookā€™ command, but all I end up seeing is their clothing? Iā€™ve a feeling the difference between being threatened with a half-brick-in-a-sock and a machine gun is going to sorta stand out more relevant than if they were wearing a cowboy hat.

That was a bug that should be now fixed.

Ran into a fire station to cheap out a zombie horde through the metal doorway, when suddenly a Brute Kool Aid Manned through the wall and slammed me back into the bathroom. I went inside to try to glitch the horde again, only to have the Brute hit me again so hard that I went flying out of the bathroom, crashing through the brick wall, and landing out on the street surrounded by a dozen more zombies. I promptly died.

Thatā€™ll teach you to cheat. Or to cheat harder. Message was unclear. Dead.

Still is there sadly.

Was at the ā€œDeath By Boredomā€ stage. Day 260+ cyborg samurai with a deathmobile, a walled-up base, tons of food, oodles of gear, skills in the 8-10 range, etc. The lack of an executable from the recent experimental build + Cataclysm Launcher deleting backup info wound up deleting all of the info, including the world and the character. RIP in pepperonis, Rory Wolfwood, angst-ridden teenage psychopath. You never even got to die with honor, like you read about in that samurai novel you really enjoyed in-between self-surgeries and being edgy.

But hey, new character time! Strong Back and Robust Genetics for plate mailed wolf-mutant? Sounds good to me.

It looks like my primary legs were finally kicked out from under me now that it takes time to start fires and filthy crap causes morale maluses.

And, the zombie ai is getting better and grabbing seems more effective.

A real dick of a time getting past D1, and were not even discussing the horde spawning patterns yet.

So it wasnā€™t my imagination? Those zombies DID phase straight through the wall of my house while I was out raiding!

Put a V8 in a hatchback, hit a SWAT truck going 300+ MPH.

I was driving a plow tractor and a grappler yanked me right out of the driverā€™s seat. As if the road rash wouldnā€™at have been bad enough traveling at 30+ mph, the plow of the tractor then proceeded to run me over.

Fuck tractors, man.

What. the. hell.

I think thatā€™s what hell looks like

I did a winter start, 0.5 item spawn, and fast metabolism. I saw a cougar get blown up in a minefield. I decided that I could get to it safely as all but 2 of the squares between me and the corpse were grass tiles. I made it in okay, but didnā€™t retrace my steps perfectly on the way outā€¦

Boredom.

I had a bunch of CBMs, a base, and pretty much most of what was challenging in game was no longer a major threat to me. I didnā€™t feel like building my base further, didnā€™t feel like wandering, different feel like clearing towns.

This time Iā€™m playing with the pacifist trait and with PKs reimagining. Trying to use primarily traps and throwing weapons (specifically for environmental damage). Also, trying to reduce the usage of skill books to train my skills, as I feel like that really short-cuts the the character growth process.

Dick Holder died when NPC Hung Shroeder came around a corner and shot my kung fu master in the chest with an m19a11 with .45 ACP manstopping power.

A single bullet penetrated my lightly clothed character with enc of 9 wearing a lab coat and stopped him, all the pain probably allowed the NPC time to fire off more shots and finish me off.

I found 7 casings on the ground later when i respawned Dick Holder Jr. and teleported my new character to the same coordinates and debug used the KILL ALL NPC command and saw the NPCā€™s head implode.

Was playing in a 250% zombie spawn + 1.0 zombie evolution + 20% item spawn world and PK rebalance mod. Lost a few characters stupidly (hey ant queen! FWOOSH) and I was really determined not to lose this one. Day 90ish, all his main skills are ~8, including melee, unarmed and dodging, got around 1500 kills, a neat modified RV and Iā€™m just cruising around, bored, looking for labs to get CBMs (20% item spawn makes for an exciting early game, but it sucks for lategame). Suddenly there is a minefield ahead and 2 forest tiles are blocking my way around it so I decide to go grab an axe and chop some trees. As I step out of the car a jabberwock that was hiding in the woods attacks me, throws me through some trees, stunlocks me and literally bashes my skull inā€¦ I had no chance to even react. Later I look in the json, heā€™s got 13 melee skill, 140 speed and a 3 turn cooldown paralyze for 60% chance on my character. Pisskop is a sadist. Oh well.

Day 49: Decided to check out a shipwreck with my first Bovine survivor since Iā€™d never bothered to before. Razorclaws are easy enough to handle with decent melee/dodge and a zweihander. I stop to crack open an empty safe and then step out into a literal tide of 25+ Razorclaws who seemingly rose from the depths. They all proceeded to grab and swiftly tear my XL survivor suit equipped cowboy apart.
