Gods of the Cataclysm (Challenge Thread)

Normal survivors can’t go past 70. Hydraulic muscles can help, but main problem is finding a long enough strip of road, as going on dirt slows down speed considerably.

does killing a t-rex count for anything?

What can be used to take a video of the game? Something easy to use.

Asking mainly, since I did the J-9 challenge, and the results were surprising so I wanna capture it on video.

I think any screen video software will do. I don’t know much about this sort of thing.

I’d recommend OBS studio. It’s cross platform, open source, and just fantastic.

New Milestone suggestion: "Craft all 12 Diamond Weapons."
These include: Diamond Kukri, Diamond Knife, Diamond Machete, Diamond Katana, Diamond Broadsword, Diamond Rapier, Diamond Zweihander, Diamond Wakizashi, Diamond Nodachi, Diamond Bayonet, Diamond Sword Bayonet and Diamond Pistol Bayonet. Making those requires a total of 450 Hydrogen, Lab with a CVD Machine and “lab journal-Gustav (level 9)” (also Charcoal, but that’s easy to make). I think the rarity of the 1st 2 would make it a reasonable Milestone (unless the experimentals changed their frequency), but I’m not entirely sure. What do you think?

That would only apply to the stable versions not the experimentals.

Thriller is actually dangerously insidious.

Yea its a joke pair of monsters.

Thriller consists of on red-leather clad lead zombie clapping and twisting around in the style of Jackson. Dancers are the second mon. Hulk sized monsters with hilariously weak attacks, they dance and congregate around the thriller. The thriller will actually convert most of the spawning zeds around the bubble into dancers, who will then rush over to join him, smashing through walls and car in a quite sporadic manner. Very dangerous to your car or base, or your own personage in the early game.

Killing the thriller (no easy task in itself due to being surrounded by dancers for up to 10 tiles in any direction. The dancers will attack you if you are in the tile they want to move in. When the thriller is kill, either via arms fire or thrown weapons, the dancers will ALL suddenly turn into regular hulks. Up to and over 100 hulks at once …

Flesh Angels should spawn in temples, iirc. molebots dont spawn, ‘humans’ are the null_mon and literally spawn nothing when spawned, Charred Nightmares are rare and only in vaults, and some other ones just dont spawn much. Tribots dont spawn either, to my own chargrin. I fix most of these … oversights in my mod.

@DeWolf:
What was changed? How does diamond-coating work now?

Pretty much any edged weapon can be diamond coated now.

I haven’t been able to figure out how to do this since the change. :frowning:

I finally managed to get my 2nd Milestone. It took some time to get a Skill over 20 while playing with Skill rust on.
I should be ready to join the pantheon now (as the 1st pure-human diety), with 2 milestones and 6 challenges done.

–Milestone 1:
Take (at least) 130 exceptional photos.

–Milestone 2:
Get a skill to at least 20.

–Challenge 01:
Kill a chicken walker in melee.

–Challenge 02:
Kill a fungal tower/blossom/spire with no environmental protection in melee.

–Challenge 03:
Kill a shocker brute unarmed, without any kind of electrical immunity.

–Challenge 04:
Wear enough stuff to get at least 1000 storage. Then fill it.

–Challenge 05:
Kill a tank drone without using invisibility, smoke, darkness, or Time Dilation. The tank drone must see you.

–Challenge 06:
Clear at least 5 levels of a slime pit.

Character’s name is Nijuni (same as my forum name - I’m not good at making up names) and his sphere of influence is Humanity. In short, if everything is in order he should be “Nijuni, God of Humanity”.

(Edit:)
I removed the reinforced Skeleton corpse 'cause that challenge’s been updated with “no skeletons”.

Congratulations on your godhood!

Aren’t the majority of these challenges outmoded? You really can’t get skills to 20 anymore, at least not most of them.

Nijuni just did it. It used to be 50 before the skill change.

@TheFlame52:
Thank you very much, it is an honor. :slight_smile:

@Ruttiger:
While the anti-grind features limit crafting skills to 10 (“This task is too simple to train your (x) beyond (y).”), it’s still possible to get (some) combat skills to 20, as I did. Of course, there’s anti-grind for those as well, which exponentially reduces skill gain if you use them too much in a short time, but after almost 2 in-game years (and few RL months) I finally managed to reach 20 in Melee.

I tested the anti-grind in my “Zombie Shooting Range” (on Bear-Trapped zombies) with a BB Gun and 100 BBs (with a character who hasn’t used ranged weapons for over 1 in-game year) earlier today. With 1st 20 BBs he gained 0.2 in Rifles. After another 20, the skill only raised by 0.12. 3rd set of 20 BBs only raised the skill by 0.08, 4th by 0.05, and 5th by only 0.03. The skill-gain slowly recovers over time, so you can still slowly improve your combat skills by killing monsters as you explore, but you can’t level them up by just spamming them over and over.

The challenges are also updated every now and then to reflect the changes to the game (and to combat possible loopholes and exploits), as Flame mentioned.

Okay, after playing some more with a rifle(wo)man, I can see where Ruttiger is coming from.

I’m not sure what’s the cap for ranged weapons, but it seems that one has to use sniper rifles (or Sniper Conversion Kits) and a Scope to keep improving the skill beyond 10 or so.

The milestone is doable with melee skills, tho, so I don’t think it needs “fixing”.

I really don’t like that they reduce skill gain based on amount of skill recently gained. It makes no sense when they already have the focus mechanic in place, it’s just a hacky fix to keep people from gaining to quickly, that interacts poorly with their already incredibly steep curve on skill gains.

I don’t know what you mean with getting melee skills to 20, in more recent experimentals I’m told it’s not really possible to make gains above 11. I’m still slowly gaining at 9. Very slowly. At a craaaawl.

The anti-grind I mentioned (and the Rifles skill cap) is from the Stable version. I’m mostly playing 0.C Stable. Wait, was the “get a Skill to 40” changed to 20 for 0.C Stable or just the experimentals? I won’t qualify for that one if we use the old milestone. :confused:

I downloaded a new experimental version and created few Freeform characters to test things out. While my melee Skills did raise beyond 10, a character with 11 in Piercing Weapons couldn’t raise that skill any further when fighting zombies with a Combat Knife (“This task is too simple to train your piercing weapons beyond 11.”). I was also able to raise Rifles and Marksmanship beyond 10 (using the RM51 Assault Rifle), but they stopped raising after they reached 11.00 (“This task is too simple”…).
So yeah, it does look like it’s impossible to train skills beyond 11 in the most recent experimental versions.
