Not sure if this is intended behavior but nothing fungal is attacking me or anything else. Even when attacked.
If you’re referring to fungaloids specifically, they are not aggressive, but be warned that fighting them up-close is still dangerous despite their seeming peacefulness.
Fungus-infected zombies and bugs and the like are aggressive, however, and there’s a good chance you’ll find those in fungal beds. Also, some fungal structures will attack invaders like you with tendrils and the like, but while they inflict some damage, their ultimate purpose isn’t actually to kill you–in my experience, tendrils are tankable.
The fungus wants you alive.

Tankable provided you never ever get your armor breached (the big tendril tends to be nontrivial).

Once I have antifungals (or the Blood Filter bionic), I don’t even bother to wear environmental protection in fungus zones; I just pop an antifungal if bad things start happening to me. Perhaps I’m in for a rude awakening. I’ll make a note to ensure hospital access before taking a risk like that again.
I still stand by my original statement that strictly in terms of physical damage inflicted by the attack, you can tank even the big tendril without too much trouble (I’ve done it before), and that I’m inclined to think that this is because its purpose isn’t actually to kill you.
I should clarify; it’s in regards to monster infighting. I’ve not seen fungal ants or zombies attack wild life or zombies. Zombies attack fungals though.
Proper anger triggers vs monsters aren’t in yet.
Anything that’s peaceful at first will stay peaceful to monsters. If you approach the fungals, they’ll get mad at zombies too.
I don’t think it’s hard to implement - I may have a PR ready by the end of this week.
A bit off-topic, but related to the talk of tanking tendrils: do any traits (Disease/Poison/Infection/Parasite Resistant/Immune) or high Health reduce the chance of a successful fungal infection from skin contact or injection? I’m curious.
Poison resist looks like it handles all fungal-infection things, based on a quick code check. Originally I intended to have tendril-injection be an automatic infection, but I don’t know if i2amroy altered that in the disease → effect overhaul. Breathing fungal haze is a resisted infection (has to beat eye/mouth protection).

Poison resist just got more interesting in my book. There are more than a few things that can poison in the game as it is, and it’s only one point, so I might start taking it on some of my characters. Thanks for the heads-up!
Also, don’t tell me if I’m in for a rude awakening on the whole “don’t worry about getting a fungal infection and just swallow an antifungal when I’m done or start having spasms” thing. I kind of want to find out for myself on this one for some foolish reason.
Hey, I’d like to know too.
