Does cutting down trees destroy things underground?

So there I was outside the Refugee Center - decided to make myself useful and cut down some dead trees.

  • Tree goes down.
  • From North and below you hear Crash
  • From North and below you hear Smash
  • Eyebot appears from nowhere.

Ah, so the answer is “Yes, but it shouldn’t”.

On the other hand, can you ever go underground in the Refugee Center without getting everyone mad at you? It seems like tree murder could be a good way to farm robots for solar cells via use of Control Laptop.
