who says it has to go in a stable and consistent fashion? Its a taint, maybe breeze blows it one way or another faster, a little randomness to its growth would be fine, just as long as its not leaping across the map every time you turn around. Should definitely infect everything in its path, I am all for making it part of the triffids. The taint in thaumcraft accomplished a nice spread by making invisible air values of both “good” vis and taint. High enough vis would prevent taint from taking root, but if animals/plants were exposed to too much taint such as in the purple areas they would become infected and pump out more taint. in random grass areas taken over by the taint, random eyestalks and tentacles would bow which also pumped out more taint and could attack the player. This made it so that if the player was unprepared the only real option was to run away, and keep the taint areas out of loading area.
Making it so taint is always spreading even when not in loaded area would be a neat way to make the player have to always be on the move, and forcing farmer simulators to have to leave. Would make game fairly “unwinnable” but DF “FUN!” Some sort of craft able taint killer would be nice though… Man now I want to completely reload thaumcraft so I can play it again.
