Corruption Mod?

Is it possible to create a custom biome that keeps growing forever?

I feel like this could be a nice starting scenario were the player needs to escape from a very toxic virus that turns everything purple and lethal to touch.

“The plants are slowly turning purple and the air is getting intoxicated with a dense purple mist that is certainly not good for your lungs.Keep running…”

This could make cars become your primary priority as the mist quickly spreads.Portals are your only way out.

What could be done to add a “corruption” effect?

taint from Thaumcraft mine craft mod? Like it. Would take the mods extra work to make it so it keeps growing even when outside of reality bubble…but I think keep it stuff only happens inside reality bubble. Also something that could counteract the effect somehow would be a must if your going to do it. All in all sounds very complex. I am not a coder but I would guess thats one you’ll probably have to take on yourself or wait in line, I doubt it’ll be made priority. Like the idea though. Maybe if I learn enough Ill be able to implement an add-on like that for you one day. ^.^

Apart from that, check out the how the fungal flowers/haze works. Genericizing that to affect grass/dirt ought to be scary enough, I’d think.

Interesting idea. Sounds like it could start from a mod-exclusive Laboratory variant (reading the description gave me a rather vivid image of the Vault 22 entrance from Fallout: New Vegas) or the Triffid Grove. I don’t know about instant lethality, though; maybe poison the food and air, so you can’t go out without a gas mask. Actually, if the biome got far enough without infecting the underground levels, you could wind up with a Metro 2033 scenario on your hands. That’d be fun if incredibly difficult.

Definitely calls for some work, I think, but the most difficult part would probably be getting the zone to expand in a consistent and stable fashion.

who says it has to go in a stable and consistent fashion? Its a taint, maybe breeze blows it one way or another faster, a little randomness to its growth would be fine, just as long as its not leaping across the map every time you turn around. Should definitely infect everything in its path, I am all for making it part of the triffids. The taint in thaumcraft accomplished a nice spread by making invisible air values of both “good” vis and taint. High enough vis would prevent taint from taking root, but if animals/plants were exposed to too much taint such as in the purple areas they would become infected and pump out more taint. in random grass areas taken over by the taint, random eyestalks and tentacles would bow which also pumped out more taint and could attack the player. This made it so that if the player was unprepared the only real option was to run away, and keep the taint areas out of loading area.

Making it so taint is always spreading even when not in loaded area would be a neat way to make the player have to always be on the move, and forcing farmer simulators to have to leave. Would make game fairly “unwinnable” but DF “FUN!” Some sort of craft able taint killer would be nice though… Man now I want to completely reload thaumcraft so I can play it again.

As far as I know thaumcraft scrapped spreading taint because it caused slowdown and in the end people did not want to keep fighting taint when they had aal the things they could do. All in all if doing anything generates more taint it discourages players from doing anything.

Right now fungus spreads. A lot of people move away from it. I’m seeing a pattern here.

Isn’t there a way to create a mist with the same spreading effect?My idea is to have a venomous cloud instead of Terraria’s purple grass.Like some sort of biological weapon that went out of control during the cataclysm.But if that’s not possible then I will use the fungus as a base.

Fungal haze is pretty much what you’re asking after, I think.

Primarily field.cpp, with the major terrain-mod in game.cpp IIRC.

If extreme enough, sounds like a completely different game mode. I mmmmight be interested in an oregon trail + advancing wall of death style flight for my life…

I remember reading about an idea like that before. An advancing wall of zombies, and the further you get into it the more dense they become until they are in every square. I’d play that for sure.
