Break out of prison scenario

There are prisons and there is a convict ‘profession’. Seems like a valid idea for a minimal-start scenario.
Not sure if this has already been proposed. A quick search showed some discussion on NPCs and so.

I don’t remember if the convict prof. has a hacksaw in its inventory but in case of the scenario, it probably should.

What do you think?

Don’t them security bots work like turrets WITH legs?
My trips to prison have so far ended fast!
Maybe if you set the scenario to start at night it would be really intresting, though the points would need to be pretty high +6 or something.

I’ll have to actually bother with prisons to get a sense of how dangerous they are, but given we have Really Bad Day and the Lab Challenge, this might just be a start for the truly insane challenge seekers.

I second this. combined with just how rare they are a way of triggering one to generate would be swell.

I visited one in-game the other day. For what it’s worth, it seemed to be more annoying than anything since everything was locked. I met several zombie brutes but was able to dispatch them safely, shooting behind the bars. Didn’t get too far — my lockpicking kit broke.

tfb mentioned bots; whatever is it I haven’t seen them yet. Heard something shooting once, passing by another prison. Never checked, for I had no armour and lousy equipment.

This sounds interesting. How about starting with a lockpick you managed to smuggle in and some mechanical skill for lock picking?

Agreed, I’m liking this one. Your prisoner could start out with a makeshift lockpick or 2, 2 or 3 mechanical skill from working the various prison work/jobs,some basic food and drink, a jumpsuit and a glass shiv or makeshift knife. you start out in your isolation cell having just been fed and have the option of breaking out immediately and risk the Z’s and the bots, OR wait until dark and hope that you can find provisions quickly enough once you’re out.

This scenario would benefit greatly, if we could dig makeshift tunnels via ©onstruction.
Naturally with chance of collapse.

I would imagine that you would run out of food before completing the tunnel…

Well, or that way. Seems decent too.

In the meantime there is a ‘prison break’ scenario and is hard. Very hard. One day I will manage to break out. Starting in a hospital as disfunctional cyborg is easy as stealing candy against the prison scenario.
Who has experience with it?

Challenge: Lab? That scenario is either really hard or really tedious, depending on how you play it.

The scenario seems to be built for crafters with melee skills. Focus on crafting an EMP grenade, then reserve it for the end game turret.
If you use another character to unlock the lab using Science IDs, you can get out without confronting the turrets, but trying to find Science parties is tedious.

I simply have 4 cooking from chargen and make a TON of dynamite, more than enough for the turret and lab entrance - and - to a lesser extent, the lab finale of it’s needed.

As for the prison, before I thought about how I would be able to escape the cell with the limited supplies on hand or salvaged from the cell. Maybe I’d file the bars down or of course use the makeshift lock pick. I could also make my way down to the armory.

Honestly though I think this would be less difficult or tedious then the lab challenge.

I’ve only managed to get out once out of a dozen and a half “prison break” starts. Only due to the sheer luck of looting a shotgun with ammo and a heavy duty flashlight out of zombiecop. There’s by far only one problem with this start: you spawn in a basement surrounded with closed bar doors and without any light source to craft lockpick/crowbar to open them. Well there’s a second problem in form of a ZOMBIE BRUTES THAT SEEK TO PULVERIZE YOU AGAINST A WALL UNPREPARED, but lets wave it off as an element of difficulty.
In fact, there’s an easy way to make this start less luck-based: add windows to the prison watcher’s rooms on the 1st floor

so you can break through the wooden doors, get in the light spot (with a possible risk of dying from a brute/secubot) and craft crowbar\lockpick there. Or alternatively make them dark-craftable, but that’s less realistic imo (in real jails, THERE ARE windows).

…Windows, or at least lights. Although some (inhumane) solitary confinement cells might not have even lights. Then again, this is Cata - there is no power in the electrical grid anymore. But then again, prisons might have backup generators. Then again, they too might have run out of fuel.

[chin rubbing intensifies]

Prison break scenario could start with some empathetic guard opening ALL the cell doors and a riot starting between guards, prisoners, and zombies among them, or maybe you got “lucky” and a sympathetic guard oped YOUR cell, before being bitten (or maybe after, and now is desperate for help from the prisoner “least” likely to stab him/her in the back) There are a lot of ways prison break scenarios could be broken into, maybe make them their own category. I imagine the whole “2nd chance in a new world” will have a lot of appeal. Could even make a secondary tutorial with this as a basis, the guard teaching you how to survive, or a fellow inmate. SOOOO many ways to run this.

I approve.

More like "I need someone who’s not afraid to break some ‘former’ laws and do what it takes to survive. Also is not a zombie. The guard could be an NPC, that gave you a ‘few’ items or makeshift items, to assist in your escape and helping them.

I wouldn’t say they would have opened the doors, because those are typically ‘mag’ locked. Also prisons do have backup generators. You cannot have shit go wrong and not be able to lock/unlock doors. Those alone are probably on their own special closed circuit.

true. But if its a guard, they can open/close doors as needed. If the cataclysm distracted the guards or something and started a prison riot, one of the prisoners could have opened the gates. If thats the case they probably opened ALL the gates. Or a sympathizing guard could have seen all hell breaking lose and decided to let the prisoners out, or to break a deal with them to help defend the prison against the horde.
