Since everyone hates fuel powered and solar powered crafts, why not wind power?
Specifically wind turbines mounted in vehicles. I’ve made three wind turbines from alternators and a few sheets of scrap myself. So it’s not unrealistic that your average survivor couldn’t.
Also sails!
Pros:
More consistent than solar, bad New England weather = more power
A lot less resource intensive to repair.
Could be made using existing solar power system.
More easily mass produced than solar
Cons:
Unless it’s windy out if your moving your losing power.
Has to be mounted on the exterior, making it vulnerable to zombies.
Rather fragile.
Yes, I want to make a sail and electrically powered apocalypse craft.
Dunno about using them to power vehicles, but for stationary generation I’d love to see them in.
Until we have wind just make them charge during rainy or stormy weather.

Oooh, I like that idea! Maybe as a construction? But, how would they interface with stuff? Maybe they charge up vehicles nearby until their charge and the vehicles’ is equal. (You can’t siphon batteries dry, only use them to depletion. Physics!)
And maybe have standard-issue solar panels in the same way, as static constructions for charging stations!
