What's Happening in YOUR Randomly-generated Apocalypse?

My guy’s becoming a machine https://imgur.com/a/yJ4Ex, but he keeps looking up at me like WTF man why you making me do all this work?! https://imgur.com/a/3kIAB

Well went into a mine and found a super clairvoyance artifact (yay) when not wielded it gives me a stronger back (I already have strong back) although when wielded in addition to the super clairvoyance I also get evil, “bad” weather and rattling. Overall I think its a good trade (just gotta make sure to put it away when not needed.

Decided to change things up a bit, and try something that i’ve never done. I thought a bit about this, and I decided to mess around with artifacts, since I never really payed attention to them before.

So, I created a world and started out in a mine. A high-strength character (14 str, 10 int) with 2+ in dodging and my regular setup was created, I spawned in with a NPC in the bottom of a mine, and amazingly I found an amigara fault, one of the mine finales that actually give artifacts.

Decided not to mess around with it, and instead decided to escape the mine. The corpses just outside the room had a few extremely useful CBM’s (Integrated toolset, hydraulic muscles) I grabbed them, the first aid kits, and filled my canteen with the water bottles left on the ground.

After dodging past dark wyrms and picking up a sonic resonator CBM I barely escaped to the surface. Resting in one of the beds, I regained all my health back. Foraged bushes for food, and ate my fill. Made a two-by-sword to replace my entrenching tool, as I believed the block ability might save me.

Decided to head all the way west where a mansion was, just on the outskirts of my revealed map. As I was traveling there, I stumbled across a cultist cabin. Interested, I went exploring inside the cabin and finally went downstairs. Managed to replace my weapon with a crowbar. The dementia’s really gave me trouble, due to my meager armor and the new update. Still, managed to survive. I spent the night in the cabin, only getting an etched human skull and some food.

After my wounds were healed, I pressed on to the mansion, and by my luck it had a set of plate armor and weapons just inside. I wore both the plate armor and helmet (Both of which fit) and grabbed a battleaxe. Reveling at my newfound power, I easily cleared the mansion since nothing could actually hurt me. Finding little but food and swamp bugs (Mansion was right in the middle of the swamp, unfortunately.) I headed back toward the mine and rested for a bit.

After getting fully healed, I went back down into the mines and killed the dark wyrms (A sort of revenge, i guess) and went back down into the fault. With the NPC there, I vefriended the NPC and marveled at his stats. 5 cutting, 7 piercing and among other very useful stats, I kept him around and learned skills from him

My plan is to fight the amigara horrors after I get my stats up by him.

After loosing my longest lasting character in years to an ice lab- zombie grenadier room; I really needed something different. I loaded the Bright Nights mod for the first time and stuck and blacklisted explosive zombies 4 times… you know, just to make sure and created a mutant.

I spawned right outside a quaint little town with 4 small houses, grocery store, gas station, 2 basic electronic stores and a municipal reactor complex.

Resources are a lot more scarce than I’m used to and, there’s nothing more than a couple two house towns in the area. The RNG has has given me a whole bunch of stuff that will be useful later like a vacuum sealer and 8 camera pros however, it has failed to provide the basic starting tools like a screwdriver, hacksaw or sunglasses to make welding googles with. Unless I get lucky with the dynamic spawned Z’s drops, the only vehicle I’ve found capable of supporting a multi-day trip in search of loot is a luxury RV with every possible engine fault.

On the plus side, after replacing a couple glass walls with real ones, I have a permanent illuminated base with mostly metal or solid rock walls and, my bed sits in an internal closet with metal walls and door. So, I feel pretty safe and I can take my time reading all these books…

Bonus: Started with radiogenic. Used the waste to put lv.1 radiation on a tile in the corner fore easy accses.

I finally made my 1st post-threshold mutant. She’s the perfect candidate to tidy up this mess. XD

I’m thinking of turning her into a stealth/invisible sniper (utilizing the Optic Cloak). I wasn’t sure which rifle to use and a friend suggested using the Heavy Rail Rifle. I’ll try to put one together and see how well that’s gonna go.

Now I have 3 long-surviving characters (in the same 0.C world): a melee-oriented pure human, a cyborg in power armor full of internal weapons and the post-threshold Alpha mutant sniper.

Superbikes are for wimps.

I stripped down a sports car, strapped a seat to the engine and this thing is just unbelievable. It accelerates at a rate of 70km/h, with “safe” speeds exceeding 700km/h. It’s charging 4 car batteries, and a floor trunk over the wheel gives it ample storage to haul goods from one shelter to the next. Being a narrow 1x4 sized vehicle, I’ve got no problems driving it right on in to my shelter, where wandering Zs won’t scrap parts while I’m not looking. I haven’t even souped it up yet.

I recently decided to finally do a stationary-base run.

I couldn’t. I found an Electric SUV in decent condition and before I knew it I was using it as a base.

How do you people do it?

I keep doing it till late game because:
-I’m too lazy to look for a working car
-When I do find a working car, I feel like it takes too long to fix it up
-I can never find a welder or torch anyways :frowning:

…I start off by putting down some gear to loot a place and just keep putting down loot in that building, turns into a “base”

Gotta have a car. I need a car. Even without an intact hull, the car is an important weapon, light source, raiding tool, and acid rain shield.

In fact, Even nailing a wooden frame and wood spikes to a car does a lot to increase its viability against mons.

But… how do you stop yourself from just going really far away? It takes effort to go back through where you’ve been and it’s boring doing all that backtracking.

Just how long are you trying to stay in a place?
Might as well move on when you’re cleared the surrounding city blocks.

Edit:
1- try using a smaller vehicle. One which can fit through a doorway.
2- you don’t need to take everything with you - you can fabricate what you need when you arrive at your next squat
3- lots of material can be garnered from dismantling your surroundings
4- if your site is no longer useful, move on.

I always have a cargo type vehicle, and a main base, I can not fit everything in a vehicle that I want and still loot. I end up putting cargo carriers(think from blazemod, the ones that don’t need a frame to put down, similar to spikes), starting on the back, but sometimes I end up with a couple 200L tanks and more cargo carriers on each side of my vehicle… making me wider. Shit I can barely fit everything I collect in a house lol. I think maybe I’m a hoarder. I keep planning on moving, and have a nice spot I could build, but it’s very close to my current base so I’m looking for something a bit farther away. I think now that I’ve gotten to a later stage in the game, and I know what I need to craft what, pretty much, so I might not collect as much on my next run. It’s so nice having everything you need right there to craft whatever, whenever, though. I guess you could do that in a mobile base too, you just have to make it large enough, which is something I keep wanting to do as well but not getting around to, make a huge vehicle. I was going to try and maybe use the semi trailer with an engine and wheels as a mobile base hah.

I think that’s the thing: I don’t collect much at all. I just slaughter everything I possibly can, get any food, and then move on. It keeps the game exciting if I don’t always have everything I need.

That’s starting to happen to me in this run, still don’t have a vehicle, foods running out in this town, but I found a great gun store with a reloading bench and mods.
And all other towns I know of seem to be a day’s travel even by car. :\

Youd be surprised how far you can travel in one day with a shopping cart on foot.

With this character I encountered a rat king, got trapped by rats, and didn’t get lucky mutations (guess they don’t push past thresholds?) :frowning: Travel during the day would be easier with lotsa’ sunscreen at this point, so it’d be a race against time to avoid burning like a vampire.

Spring Day 9

New guy, new world. Have an SUV that I stole with the help of swat armor and a machete. Im a knife wielding cop now. I got the swat gear by ramming a turret roadblock with my previous and beat up cargo truck to steal the cop car I used to find the suv in the city. And I even got a tactical shield from a swat truck. It is a very nice item for its cost. And people are right that activating it isnt especially worth it unless you expect to take heavy damage and not hit back. which I do do every once in a while, to be fair …

I have had a decent run thus far. No vitamins, but I did get to a refugee center and get my marksmen to 1. I did trade for a riot helmet I now wear. I did find plenty of .223 ammo and guns, and now have my M4 I use regular enough. Though I use fire for zeds if I can.

Withdrawing from booze right now. Found a survivor map to another city cluster and burned my way in. Now Im explorifying. Found some mutagen but no syringe. looking for a welder and a humvee. Currently parked outside a lab by a city I hope to map out now.

Im well stocked in bombs and .223 guns. Ill try to make it to the finale. should be easier since I nerfed the death explosions of the secubots into smokebursts.

I found a wriggling napkin that charges off of pain and make me unhealth. Oh well, Im already unhealthy, and the earthquakes it gives off are perfect for a lab.

@Adragis029:
I have a hard time playing without a stationary base, myself. I like to loot everything I come across. I’d need a house-sized vehicle full of Cargo Carriers if I ever wanted to have a mobile base. XD

As for backtracking, well - I kinda have more than 1 base. In my longest-running world I’ve set-up a base every 100 or so world-map tiles apart. I modified a car I found by taking out the seats and trunks, replacing them with Cargo Space. I usually drive around to loot, then drop off everything in my nearest base.

I gave up on the “invisible mutant sniper” idea, as the Optical Cloak drains the UPS really quickly - and I also need it to fire my Heavy Rail Rifle. I made the Light Amplification Goggles instead, using the night’s darkness for stealth.

As for the HRR, it looks like I need a lot more skill in Marksmanship and Rifles to use it properly (even with plenty of weapon mods which improve accuracy). I often score only grazing hits (with Marksmanship 3 & Rifles 3), but when I do score good hits… well, they usually deal over 100 damage (without criticals).

I think a lot of people get shocked looks when I say my best vehicle ever actually involved removing a lot of the cargo space in an Electric SUV. There was one tile of storage (just a regular ‘trunk’), one floor trunk, and the rest was tools and utilities for crafting (which have their own little 50-liter storage compartments).

@Adragis029:
Hey, it’s all just personal preference, nothing weird nor shocking about it. Some people like to be on the move and always explore new areas, others prefer to methodically clear cities and dump everything they find in one spot (aka Base). XD

Smaller vehicles are actually much better for navigating through cities. The reason I still don’t have a “Deathmobile” is 'cause I’d have to park it outside cities and explore them entirely on foot, as it wouldn’t fit between all the non-functional vehicles left on the streets. 'Course, I could make a tank-roller, but… meh. Still, I’ll probably make one at some point, just to see what I can come up with. XD

I’ve been toying around with the idea of a Zombie Shooting Range, by putting zombie corpses behind Bear Traps. Sadly, most of them tend to get killed by traps after their revival instead of being stuck in place. In the end, only 1 Fat Zombie survived and became an undead practice target (surprisingly, the Tough Zombie didn’t survive). I’ll try bringing some Zombears and Antlered Horrors for the next testing phase.

I’m sure experimenting with zombies in my base’s basement won’t cause any problems and it’ll be totally safe.

(Edit:)
Apparently, the Tough Zombie revived with low health 'cause I mangled its corpse. One revive later it made a proper target. XD
