What's Happening in YOUR Randomly-generated Apocalypse?

I escaped the lab using a very lucky teleporter. I’m living in a campsite I found nearby, trying to get my hunger down from famished.

Autumn, day 01. 29 days alive.

I just finished repairing and doing minor convenience conversion of the humvee I found. Previously I was using a personel carrier with a window removed and a hatch put in so I could get in back quickly. It had a funnel too.

After this, I had been driving around, from small town to small town, looking for a welder or this one acetylne tank I found. I do rather like not being able to battery my way to superpowered vehicle, but … mah car.

 • In the early days I escaped a size 4 city that I awoke in.

 • I found a mine shaft and wandered in to find a filter mask and the Thing[sup]tm[/sup]. I shot it up and it ran into the smog I came from and died.

 • I had to run over a tank drone to get my personnel carrier. I drove an suv into it at 146 kpm.

 • I drove from small town to small town, finding a mansion and slowly building up my skills while I fought for food and health items. Not just first aid kits, but also things like multivitamins. My mod is harsh on the health to make the early game more intense, and make late game less ‘blocky’. Still, as a result of living on the edge I did further nerf the health lose due to temp.

 • I found a Fuckhuge size 8 or 9 city (im used to playing with 10 or 12 on, but the game gens better with lower numbers). this was next to a town called ‘freedom’, and I have yet to discover the name of the city. A doom castle was nearby, and in my various carving up and down I came into more guns than Ill ever use in this playthrough (which I dont use a lot of guns) and I found binoculars and this torch to weld with. I finally got midgame armor and crafted some bone armor and leather duster.

 • I raided a police hub and kill skynet. Was actually easy since the robots wrecked the place killing the zeds. by that I mean they were distracted by the doom monsters and zeds.

 • I found the 50cal rifle and a PRM marine helmet inside. That fit, too! PRM helmet is one of my personal favorite armor pieces, be it one I made or in coregame.

 • I found a string of MREs on a bunch of soldiers by my humvee. They had an abnormal amount of food on them, and I spent 5 or so days leveling my mech up to 4 from 3 slow stuff.

So, this character has so far successfully entered midgame about halfway through summer, maybe 20 gamedays in? He had to detox by day 14, which is my usual schedule for this. Midgame mons have started to appear, and they are in appropriate densities. Although, at 1.5x spawn rates they can get overwhelming without caution.

speaking of caution, caution currently means a grenade launcher on my humvee !!! \o/

P: A lobster jumped out of the water and tried to nom me while I was ‘fishing’ with a spear. Payout like that makes me sooo happy. Lobsters are an earlygame threat, but by the time you get armor its mostly a matter of out dpsing them.

Continuing to find new and amusing ways to break the game by messing with the JSONs. One day I’ll gather all the garbage edits together, find out how to make them all stable, and release them as a stupid mod. Enjoy things such as socks of holding, anti-electric underwear, instantly dehydrated food, indestructable cars, atomic mini fridges, and more.

One day.

But not right now.

Right now I’m fleeing from a horde. Firing a RPG-7 near a megamall a couple years in was a bad idea.

Just now starting to get back into cataclysm after a long while. Have everything set tp what I want, make a new world and character. and start my game.

Talk to npc for a task, ask for an item, get thorazin. Not useful to me but oh well. Equip my switch blade, and head to town.

Started fairly close to town so just as I step out there are some zeds. I go to walk up and deal with them and…

A chicken walker? The hell is that? I say to myself. I take a look at it and find out it’s a fucking murder machine. I start to run away, it wanting to attack the zeds first, thank god.

But they didn’t last long.

It starts laser targeting me. Few steps later I get hit with a grenade. Try to make my my to the npc, maybe he can help me some how?

Second nade hits me, still alive some how. I step back into the shelter. It makes it’s way to the door and attempts to mow down the npc. He still stands. I start trying to stab it while he starts shooting his glock.

When the damn thing dies it explodes, killing him instantly, and break my right arm, severely cripples my torso, with my pain in the 250’s, but alive.

I take some bandages from the npc’s corpse, as well as his glock, ammo for it, and hit trench coat. And I contemplate what to do now.

Hell of a start.

Well NuG has cleared out 2 towns, plus parts of others, and is working on the third. Atill looking for a lab, but saw a bank and decided to stop in since I have all the skills/equipment to get into the vault. I just used a stecthescope and hacked the PC, instead of teleporting in. I found a Teleporting CBM in the bank, which I have one , but it’s different than this one apparently.

Oh I also found one of those moisture retention suits, and THIS!!! https://imgur.com/a/bRqaW

My first power armor?! Good God look at those defenses!

Started a “Fled the Riots” game. There was a working security van (heavy-duty frames +steel plating) practically right out front. It’s not even 9:00 on day one and my kill count is nearing 200… dose playing with hoards double the zombies or something?

So I just found the strangest name for an artifact I have personally ever seen which is a WHISPERING NAPKIN. I just imagine someone holding it up to there ear and hearing “You fell healed”. On another question how does one change font size on this forum?

Finally found a riot shield from pks re-balancing and well in a raid into a city I found an ar-15 accurized it reloaded it with a 50 round drum that I also found and At least as far as that makes sense to me my character is apparently one handed sniping zombies with an ar.

Is this the ratman?

When starting in a lab, cannibal really helps. It allows you to eat human corpses, which are the most prevalent food in the labs. Mutated body parts too, it’ll reduce the morale penalty of eating them. This is only needed if you’re staying in the lab for an extented period of time (Lets say, crafting explosives to blow down the walls). Smashing down fridges for copper and hammering it into makeshift pots or using aluminum cans (Which has level 2 boiling and is needed to make certain explosives) can help boil water and make other crafting goods.

But since you already escaped, this can be there for future reference.

Cheating a lot, really.

Well, sort of. I started a character with stats through skills enabled, upped the trait limit and did a tweaker bad day start able to spend all 18 points on traits. The most important traits? Zui Quan and Drunken master. Character took a long time to get started, I was in bad shape on day 9 when the withdraw finally wore off. I was desperately raiding a motel, knowing I couldn’t handle even 3 zombies, when suddenly I was moving faster and hitting and dodging like I should be. I escaped with food and a decent condition truck (leaving a riot bot and ton of zombies behind me).

Life got really easy at that point. The desperate struggle to avoid aggro during that first week turns into a triumphant thrashing of anything that comes near. I cleared the city I started in of major threats early in the summer. This is a character who wears no armor and carries no weapons. The only weapon needed: a jug of cheap wine.

First year ended with my character having several companions, most skills in the 4-6 range, stats goin up, generally just walking through the apocalypse pretty much untouchable, at least when they are drunk. They spent the winter clearing a second city, and the next year they travelled to two other much more distant cities and cleared those of major threats.

But there comes a point where you just aren’t getting any better. Where you don’t need more gear, more materials, more anything. I hit that point, still able to handle anything without shocker in the name handily. I had been playing this character with no CBM or mutations, and decided to change that as I had a stash of a dozen power storage and the much loved joint torsion ratchet. Once they added the dielectric capacitance CBM, there was nothing any zombie could do to even slow me down.

So of course, since this character is so ridiculously OP already, it’s time to take it that last step. Time to savescum until I get some mutations I like. I got ridiculously lucky with this. My character went from pretty to very to beautiful, has insect wings, phelloderm, strong, very fast healing, a whole bunch of other perks (robust genetics is great). No bad mutations at all. I had high thirst for a while but got lucky with a purifier, costing me only bark in the process.

So now they have tons of good mutations, CBMs for most situations (though none of the really high end ones like teleport or time dilation or that one that lets you phase through walls), a team of… 5 npcs (was way more before one really terrible trip through a city), A swank vehicle with every crafting station and tons of guns/gear/materials of every kind. I even spent several days training my NPCs in fabrication, one of these days I’m gonna make a massive pile of switchblades for throwing. I’m not even sure what to do with them at this point, it’s not like they need anything, they have about a hundred squares of crops they aren’t harvesting so food should never be a problem again, they’ve brewed a metric shitload of vodka and now are working on beer… there’s just not much left to conquer.

Well I’m about to install some CBMs for the third time, Have 5 or 6 Power 2 CBMS, some leg alloy plating, leukocyte breeder I’m not sure about, Teleportation cbm not sure about s well, as I already have probability travel, and the UPS CBM.

I also have the medical serum book, and another book I recently found, with Plant, Slime, Rat, and Cephaloid mut/serum. So I might finally divulge myself into the world of mutations! My skill for cooking was stuck at 7 and 13% for the last 90 days it seemed, so I went ahead and made oxidizer powder, 1 batch at a time, until my skill got to 8, then I was able to read one of the 2 lab journals that took me from 8 to 9! I now have 3000 oxidizer powder I guess I’ll have to use at some point as well.

I also hit 11 electronics, going from 10 to 11 naturally, after it being my first skill that got to 10 (from books I believe). Going from 10 to 11 just happened from crafting upgraded solar panels for my ride, I believe.

Edit: Oh and I also got rifles and marksmanship up to 8… it takes a shit ton of bolts, but shooting at Hulks at 26 tiles away with a pneumatic bolt rifle, or whichever enemy you can find at that range, and just shoot bolts at them until you luckily hit them a few times… it’s tedious but have gone from 5 to 8 in marksmanship and rifles this way.

Found out that Im living the the backwater equivalent of The Dark Forest with small village cities sprinkled about.

Just, absolutely nothing to attract me.

I have made it to autumn now. And back into health now too, since I kicked the boozing and began taking regular vitamins. A rapier and ar15 are my weapons, though I do need more skill for my marksman and guns. They train soo slow and are so expensive. I cant hit anything because I have no skill, and unlike melee I cant keep trying indefinitely.

Found a doomlab in the wild. I debugged myself in and looked around. A real slugfest inside. I do play with 1.5x spawns though. Good to see that zombies, demons, and robots all have their own spheres of influence in any given room. They fight it out and the winner isnt always the same team. Of course zeds revive, demons are OP, and robots have bullets.

A cyberdemon was frolicking around without regard for the walls, as such a majestic creature should. He didnt go nuts about going after sound, but he could if he wanted to. And there was plently of loot scattered around. Military grade ammo and mags, and some prm stuff. As well as the usual lab stuff. The doomlab is a big place, and its easy to come in unprepared.

Is the doom lab the one with shock turrets and terminals that don’t work yet?

yes. But shockturrets can be in any lab.

speaking of terminals Ive got to rig them up. We now have the technology.

It seems generating any world that is not 4/4 in size and spacing tends to reduce drastically (in my opinion) certain outskirts buildings (labs, military facilities, mansions) and only get mostly the common cities.

Makes me want to restart but have a good progression with a current character, I hope to find a good excuse to die.

Generating worlds with spacing too high ends up with vast swathes of nothing, despite having plenty, in theory, to spawn there. Such as caves and lakes and roads and labs and mansions and wasp hives and bee hives and swamp shacks and razorback ships and prisons and cabins and farms and horror caves and doom castles and the like.

You know, all the crap that it should.

So far, anything with city sizes over 9 or distance over 5 or 6 seems to gen nothing but cities and token caves.

Yeah I think I’ve been doing 4, 6… I like 6, 8 but now it doesn’t give me the option to keep retrying until all the stuff spawn correctly. I know it’s part of a update, but it doesn’t seem to spawn the same. I have a decent world now though, I think.

I found Hydraulic Muscles and another NPC, my base is getting crowded. I also finally found a lab, not too far from my base, I just hadn’t explored a lot of the map yet, except the stuff really close. I also found telescopic eyes with the muscles, before the lab, so near-sighted is gone! I am now exploring the lab, found a few mutagens and a way to craft raptor mut/ser, not sure about using it though, didn’t even know it was a thing lol.

15?

as in 1 5?
15?

as in 1 5?
Ignore him. Just glanced at his post history and he’s either a completely incompetent troll or a 7-year old. Possibly both.

So do a lot of people save scum when using mutagens, why not just use purifier?

also, I forgot to mention before I have fencing from a book i found early in my run, forgot I even had it, I noticed it works with the broadsword I found in a museum, oh maybe I did mention it.
I haven’t seen a lot of people talk about fencing, is it mediocre to the other styles I can find? Like eskrima with machete, or niten with naginata.
