What's Happening in YOUR Randomly-generated Apocalypse?

Local refugee center caught on fire while I’ve been sleeping here. No idea how, but it did. After I have crawled out of the flames and rubble, around 20 zombies smashed down a window and flooded the room.

What killed me?

Morphine overdose.

Found two boring labs. One was the portal lab… which only had one basement floor. The other had the CBM storage for the last floor… containing only one CBM.

Found a sewage treatment, which had a lot of 30 and 55 gallon drums. For the sheer hell of it, I decided to fill two 30 gallons with sewage sample. Might use it for crafting slime mutagen that I won’t use, but for most part I’ll keep it in my base, because dammit I want all the stuff!

I have begun mass production of the mythical Alpha serum. In order to become the greatest human warrior to ever walk the face of the earth, I must break the Alpha threshold. No other mutagen will do, since they turn only turn you into freaky hybrids.

Went down an ice lab… thought I’d be prepared for it. First floor was all right, but it was huge. I slowly checked everything out, got all the items and moved them above ground. Second floor was still kinda big. Third floor was also big, so I lost it and said fuck it. I wrapped myself in blankets, cotton hats, wool socks, etc, and just did a mad dash searching for the next floor. And the next. And the next.

Then, the next floor was a big drop down. I spent a few minutes cursing as I went back up and got a grappling hook in my car.

Bottom floor was freezing. Probably due to not caring that several of my extra gear has been destroyed by turret fire, my hands were at -142. On the bright side, the bottom level loot was on the very room that I dropped down… to be exact, I was right next to it. So I grab the loot, and dash toward the light of the outdoor world.

In the end, it was a couple of laser pistols… and the rifle. Like wow. This is pretty OP.

Aside from that, stocking up on protein shakes, aspic, jerky… all sorts of food and drink to make my 91 day stay at base possible. Can’t wait for it. After I do that, I’m gonna start another world.

Possible method of death to close this playthrough is speed with a car filled with explosives, perhaps with an RDX charge at the head, or a mininuke. Bonus points if I can somehow do that while charging toward a fungal tower. And definitely do that while in complete euphoria.

So, I derped about with some modding again, I decided I wanted a relatively realistic take on what a modern soldier lugs around, in particular the guy whose job is to carry around the LMG… o3o

Yes, that is 600 fucking rounds. My efforts to look up ammo loadouts for the average automatic rifleman suggested that 3 M249 mags was about bare minimum.

Started off in a decent shelter, basement had a few useful supplies, and I recruited the starter NPC since she was packing an MP5. While she wanted to find a hospital and find data on whether any of her friends were infected, but first I brought her along to raid a nearby FEMA camp.

600 rounds isn’t supposed to last this long in an LMG, but having the option to do single shots does wonders for ammo conservation. Companion ran out of ammo, and I didn’t really find enough guns and ammo in the armory tent to replace that SMG. Did find plenty of MREs medical supplies though.

I kinda wish there was an option to give companion NPCs items to hold onto temporarily, with the expectation that they’ll give it back without any fuss later. Then she could be an assistant automatic riflewoman if I ever find extra ammo. o3o

My willpower lost. After the Jabberwocks, Hulks, and Bio Operators, plus having the laser rifle, I decided to get a fresh start on a new world. The season of euphoria will have to wait, alas.

Started with the hospital scenario. Bionic patient… wasn’t really excited about most of the bionics, but the having a battery system was nice since I often end up finding no power gaining source for most of my playthroughs until later on. Aside from night vision and robust genetics, I took in more negative traits to give me some decent boosts in stats, plus a few extra skill levels.

Hospital was a bit of a bust. A severe lack of medical supplies. On the other hand, the vending machines had a lot of junk food. The other vending machine held a massive amount of liquid stuff, so I’ll be able to keep myself slaked for a season or two.

To top it off, moved to a nearby mansion because it had a pool.

Currently, in a bit of a pickle. Went to a hardware store for a wheelbarrow. I did find one… and when I exited, suddenly in all directions in the distance I see shockers and shocker brutes. Oops.

I did realize one problem I’ll soon have: There’s pretty much no area to hunt in. The hospital and mansion is in one open clearing… surrounded by four cities, or maybe just one big city with a clearing at the center of it. No forests. No trees, barely any shrubs to forage in.

Zombies seem to follow me closer and closer to my base. Soon enough I might end up summoning a brute or a hulk. No hordes at least, I think. Don’t know if wandering hordes show up in static spawn. Either way, food supply will run out soon if I don’t raid enough. The outskirts of the cities are populated by lots of shocker brutes. Most of my food is the low nutrition junk food. On the flip side, I found a nearby boxing gym, so there’s that. Funny. Melee skill is going up, so is unarmed. I start off with 14 strength thanks to the hospital scenario… and due to said scenario I’m also frail yet is capable of carrying around a lot of stuff while dragging a wheelbarrow also loaded with stuff.

Got plenty of supplies, so far I’ve gone through 2 mansions and no luck finding ammo though.

M249 is a fucking beautifully OP little thing, because this game is bad about treating even full-auto-only guns like they’re select-fire. o3o

Shooting the M249 from a standing unsupported position should really weigh on the stamina bar. That might balance it out some.

Also, focus should fit into accuracy and doing nothing but shooting at zombies should really eat into focus, too.

Don’t forget the fact that this is a weapon that does not have a semi-auto mode. Trying to fire single shots logically should be subject to failure like it does to players with the Trigger Happy trait. o3o

Desperate for meat, I venture out in the afternoon to find something. Anything, moose, wolves, flies… nothing. Then, I spy on the map a horde at the edge of a city. Being bored, I decided to check it out from a distance.

Lots of survivor zombies, tough zombies, and the rest are pretty mundane. No shockers or spitters. So okay, I though, might as well. I move towards them to get their attention from a distance. Amazingly, they’re more concerned about destroying a house and car than going after me. Only one or two notice, so work was easy. One by one I lure some out, up until the point where there’s only a few left in their gathering point that I rush them.

End result, some MREs, and survivor gear. I raise a blood-soaked steel knuckles in victory, satisfied at okay melee and unarmed skill.

That is an oversight that I’ll look into fixing, do you happen to know if any of our other weapons should be auto-only? Having the number of rounds you fire after your target drops be variable and skill-based is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time, but haven’t had time to do it.

Let’s see, thankfully that’s an easy enough thing to look up. In addition to wikipedia, some of the weapons have related field manuals available as well. Having variable bursts be affected by the gun’s rate of fire might be interesting as well. o3o

Edit will go here after I complete looking up every weapon in the game. >w< Posted separately due to unexpected delays.

Damn you car alarm, whydoncha shuddup? :-))

Shelter-started by this Public Works building, crawling with Zs. A bear was getting sliced by this screamer Z, and suddenly dashed away. Just a couple of lurkers outside the gates, and a battleground just half-a-mile north whereas a pack of BWs had their way with the undead. I pitched in and smashed this Necro’s face.
Upon coming back to that 4-tile compound near the shelter, I’ve noticed this Shocker Z by the abovementioned bear’s carcass. I knew I’d get minced, so I rogue’d amongst the trees for a while until there was an oportunity to pulp whatever’s left of that bear. Made a looong arch around, being that I lacked ranged weaponry.

Hotwired this EleCar and mangled one BW or another, only to arrive at yet another suburb. The alarm was going nuts and I had a pet-zombie smashing the garage door of my chosen safehouse, from the inside. It didn’t take long to realize there had to be some command to silence the decibel-monster attracting whatever madness is out there in town. Two map-tiles apart there’s this nice house with another Shocker Z waiting for me to come by.

Nightfall’s pretty much there; being I’m such a heavy sleeper, there is a considerable option of driving away from the suburbs and into the forest for the night - with pockets full of potato chips - and staying there until I have some spears to put through that Shocker’s thick skull.

So I was going to do my first bank heist on this playthrough. I noticed a nearby bank; in general I’d have tried to quietly kill the crowds around the street first, but I was getting antsy for loot.

I go to safe mode, and I do a mad dash in the street toward the bank. In general, the bank was surrounded by parks and parking lots, so lots of open space. What I didn’t pay attention to was the weather. Bad idea. One flash of lightning, safe mode alerts me… to about zombies all over the place, on nearly every direction.

Times like this is when ohshit is appropriate. I run south… thankfully I was in an area with a lot of wrecks, so the zombies in the dark mostly push through the obstacles. I take the long route toward the bank, and the loot was nice. Basic power armor, which might be useful if I ever encounter triffids or fungals. Plutonium cells, and a Rivtech design binder, so I can soon craft some atomic lamps to brighten up the home base. And gold, silver, and money bundles. Lots of em; soon enough I’ll be living like Smaug.

It took me longer than expected to to interruptions and getting dragged out, so on the laptop. Now, where was I…

Now let’s see, full-auto-only weapons, and their stated rates of fire in case that becomes relevant:

M249 (800 RPM according to wikipedia, 850 according to FM 23-14, 650-850 according to FM 3-22.68)
Mk 19 (325-375 RPM according to wikipedia, same according to FM 3-22.27)

And a few cases of harder to figure out weapons:

Briefcase SMG I would assume is based on either the Uzi series or the MP5, both of which are selective-fire.

TEC-9 is normally a semi-auto-only pistol, based off the earlier MP-9 SMG. All info I could find suggests that the only full-auto versions of the TEC-9 itself were illegal coversions, and presumably would not be selective-fire.

Calico M960 comes in both semi-auto civilian versions and full-auto LE versions, can’t yet find info on whether the full-auto version is selective-fire.

Rivtech RM451 is, as with non-fictional flamethrowers, likely going to discharge its fuel in streams, so likely should also be treated as full-auto only.

Rivtech RM360 seems to be bastard love-child of a Gatling gun and an American-180, which is apparently seletcive-fire, so we can assume the RM360 is too.

Rivtech RM614, being a fictional LMG, is likely full-auto-only, whereas the LMG variant of the Leadworks L523 Platform likely retains the same fire control group as its other variants.

Rivetech RM298 HMG presumably is full-auto-only and comparable to the M2 Browning.

I can verify that single shot is a thing on the M2. You are right on the 249, don’t know about the rest.

If I recall, it’s due to the M2 having a low enough rate of fire to make squeezing off single shots easier (good luck trying that with the aircraft-mounted variant), don’t think any of them have proper selective-fire.

Nah, you turn the nob that sticks off the back, between the handles, to select single or auto. In the army :expressionless:

Oh derp. owo

EDIT: double-checks FM 23-65 Shit, how did I fail to notice that? Need to find the Mk 19 manual again to ensure I didn’t get that one wrong too.
