What's happening in YOUR randomly generated apocalypse? Part 2!

Trying to start constructing a base/home for Basil and the few NPCs that he has gathered. I managed to find a better location than what I had originally planned on. I just can’t get the motivation to get started. :frowning:

Mark Davis had already cleared out one city, and had a plan for the other 2. The loot would be helpful, as would the lack of monsters.

He had a few hundred rounds of various calibers, but no more than 40 of anything other than 12G and 9mm. Better to rely on the spear if possible.

Today I found out that Driving Skill 10 doesn’t stop you from driving your bike into your pickup truck.

Well, there we go. Infestation of fungal flowers contained and destroyed, and all it cost was a couple houses and maybe a hundred or so tiles of forest. Suffer not the fungus to live.

sidenote: it’s funny as hell that, with z-levels off, upper floors can exist completely independent of support.

Came back to the game after a relatively long pause and I’m enjoying the difficulty spike (used to be I could carve a cudgel and tailor a bunch of reinforced clothes and that was enough to clear a town of regular zombies while barely breaking a sweat), though I am a bit baffled as to how zombie snappers are now able to bite through my full suit of heavy survivor armor…

I just started a bottom of mines with a madness themed character and when i turn
on my light, i find myself next to a dagger of shaddowy ichor So,
I activate it and it covers me in blood, summons shadows and when equipped it
makes my character go crazy, so im gonna name the knife Archibald.

“Stupid, foolish, careless, idiot.” Arshes growled at herself as she pieced together a rough sling for her now broken arm. So intent was she on her casting and on the gigantic spider she’d been hunting, she’d failed to notice the smaller but still grotesquely oversized spider that had been stalking her. Only luck and a hastly thrown up arm had prevented the creature sinking its fangs into her torso but it had still shattered her arm and sent her reeling. The last of her magic had been spent ending it as she withdrew to safety, for now she needed to rest but Arshes was deteminded to wipe out the nest, broken arm or not.

Ouch, those things pack a punch. I figured since stuff doesn’t use special attacks while you are invis I’d be able to save mana by meleeing the lesser spiders but it ripped my survivors arm up pretty damn quick, with 13 dodge no less :cold_sweat:.

Wait until you fight the big ones. Bring fire protection. I don’t like demon spiders one bit.

'Thea had volunteered to undergo genetic mutation therapy, which is probably why she ended up alive after the Cataclysm when so many others had died, but never before had she seen mutagen like this. The darkness of it had been calling to her ever since she had picked it up, and she had been resisting for so long…

Cutting-edge C.R.I.T. Labs serum; this could be the very edge she needed to survive in a dead world, although it certainly wasn’t what she had in mind when she had first volunteered. Steeling herself, she loaded a syringe and found a vein.

Surprisingly, the mutation took hold quickly and painlessly, much unlike the process of the mutagens she had taken previously. As the sparkling liquid coursed through her veins, she felt a rush of energy and stamina, and noticed that the stink of her body seemed to fade.

Indefatigable and Weak Scent with no downsides. I might use the other two of these I have tucked away, but I’m still waiting on a good source of eggs for the last component of elf-a mutagen, so maybe I’ll camp on it until I’m confident in not crossing the vamp threshold.

I’ve clocked 8 queens so far :stuck_out_tongue: my mistake was trying to melee the medium ones.

Nice. I haven’t even seen a Queen yet. I ran into a big boy and jetted the moment he started slinging fire magic at me.

Their nets have the same map key as regular forest tiles but a different colour, you can find some nice magical gear there but you want to be careful.

Kiera and her crew conferred a while and finally agreed that the survivor encampment they stumbled upon was death under glass. Setting fire to the place and letting all the scraping and shrieking horrors within burn would be the safest and most humane way to deal with the situation.

“Screw that”, one of her followers said. “There could be food and more importantly, fuel, that we really could use.” So Kiera told the rest of the group to post up and stand guard. She prowled the perimeter of the survivor encampment, listening for the sound of a generator or maybe a vehicle turned into the same. Nothing alerted her to a generator, but metal scraping near the back of the camp must mean something of worth was still left within …

Quietly slipping back to the main entrance, Kiera ordered her followers toward the right side of the gate while she stood to the left. With silent nods to each other, everyone shouldered arms and readied themselves. With what appeared like a moment of meditation to anyone looking at her, Kiera powered up the machinery that had been implanted into her. Her last coherent thought was to throw open then gates as a rage washed over her. A rage and a hunger.

The sounds of her allies’ gunfire didn’t even register as an afterthought as she shrieked out a howl and charged toward the nearest abomination to her. Metal claws pushed through the backs of her hands and just reached their fullest extension as she raked and plunged her fists at one zombie after the the next. Two of her allies reloaded and kept laying down gunfire while the other two threw down their empty rifles and charged into the mix, albeit more wary and cautious than Kiera did.

When it was all said and done, more than a dozen zombies lay dead. One of her allies fell in the fight but the others pulled his corpse outside the encampment for a proper burial when time permitted. Kiera was still awash in her animalistic instincts, moving from one fallen zombie to the next, rending flesh from bone and eating. The spectacle was enough to sicken two allies who stood outside the gates while the third kept an eye on Kiera so she wouldn’t turn on them next. After the gruesome meal it would be time to clean up and decide if this place was worth looting or trying to make into their new home.

I broke in to one of those unholy research establishments, I put most of the cyborgs out of there misery but one seemed to have a light of humanity still in her eyes. Either that or high power LEDs. Anyway, I use my leet hacking skills and a control laptop to put her out and drag her to the operating theatre. All goes well and with a suspicous chip removed from her head she woke and was able to speak coherently.

She didn’t want to travel with me, can’t say I blame her - must be very traumatic.

A week or two later I see her wandering near a road in the distance and drive my motorbike up
“Hi, mind if we chat a bit? Got anything to trade?”

Distracted by the chance to talk to someone I don’t notice a rabbit hole in the grass, skid and run her over.

Out here only the strong survive.

Opened a safe in one of those huge apartment blocks. What lies within? I was hoping for some platinum jewelry so I can finally start doing some catalytic science.

8 months… 8 MONTHS, dozens of acetylene torches, 4 full cities, a dozen or more labs and finally I find a (non vehicle) welder :sob:

I know the pain. I’m still searching for ‘Guide to Advanced Emergency Care’. Lost track of how many labs and doctors offices I’ve gone through so far.

It was a strech to call it an underground apartment but it suited her needs and she didn’t want to think of the place she lived as a “basement”. Still, the tower she’d made her home, while suitable through summer had grown colder as the year grew long. Ashes sometimes wondered how the former residents had weathered the winter months lacking fireplaces and the like, perhaps some of the artifacts she’d seen but been unable to figure out the workings of had been able to produce heat? It didn’t matter, her little apartment, lit by ever-glowing light artifacts she’d found was more then enough for her.

After a few… accidents… with the translocation spell missing it’s mark and dropping me from two floors up (It seems to be a bug, I figured out a workaround but it was too much trouble to keep going through), I’ve decided to relocate to somewhere a bit safer to teleport to. After some work reorganising, rebuilding and teleporting massive amounts of loot over I’m feeling pretty comfy in my new base. I’ve added a smoke room and a water pump, I’m going to add a stable and somewhere to keep my birds next and then I think it will be done (apart from a few aesthetics).

I should also add so there isn’t any confusion, to Arshes, any modern tech she doesn’t really understand the workings of is an “artifact” as much as the stuff you’d find in the bottom of a temple. The “ever-glowing light artifacts” for instance are atomic lamps and reading lights she’s found.

Edit:

Much better :+1:
