What's happening in YOUR randomly generated apocalypse? Part 2!

This man doesn’t remember anything before he woke up in the evac shelter, nor does he think about it. The past is not the present, and therefore doesn’t need to be fret over. All that he knows is important is that he’s alive, and with battleaxe in hand, must bring purity to this new world.

In the Age of Darkness, Zed feared not the rock and the gun, nor did it fear the Beast of Fungus. It feared… THE AXEMAAAAN!

Speaking of which, does anyone know which mutation trees give “tough”? I’m pretty sure I’ve seen it pop up before but I’m drawing a blank on which ones.

Fun fact, the school I went to had a fully functional forge set up in the DT department including a forge (of some type, I don’t recall the details), metal working tools and an anvil. I never once saw it being used though.

Very nice. To this day I’ve never found an anvil. I’ve always had to make it.

And I though fungus could get bad, spend a few minutes butchering up a few triffids, turn my vehicle around to leave and this is what I see.

Drive Mel! Drive! all your crap is in there!

I may or may not have accidentally burned down a mall. I mostly looted it though so it wasn’t a huge loss. Fire spreads a lot faster than I thought it would and I wasn’t able to stop it before it attracted a swarm of zeds. Also started learning how lifting works for vehicles now, so I’m moving up in the world.

Edit: Oh, and getting tinted lenses is SO much easier than happening upon eclipse glasses for glare protection. Kind of face palmed on that one.

Edit 2: Just lost a motorcycle I spent a good hour or two getting all the equipment to set up by running into a sulfur ant hill and ramming an acidic ant on accident. Managed to escape due to the ants being oddly fixated on those pesky roving groundhog packs. RIP motorcycle you will be missed.

I guess nobody told him this was an old-fashioned Missouri brick fight, huh?

“Tough” is a trait that you can only take at chargen. Its mutation counterpart is called “Resilient” which can be obtained by drinking Ursine, Cattle, Chimera, Lizard, Beast or Medical mutagen. “Tough” also stack with “Resilient” and its descendants “Solidly Built” and “TAAANK”, so if you want to maximize that hp bonus you want to have both.

Ahh, it must of been resilient I’ve seen, thank you.

It’s actually for my abandoned challenge character, the goal/mission/challenge I’ve set myself is to cure her illness (frail trait).

Guess I’ll keep heading down the medical tree.

Mel flexed first her fingers, then her toes. She stretched her limbs, then back, then her whole body. Nothing, no pain, no lingering weakness. She laughed and felt tears stream down her face, after all the treatment, all the pain, all those years, she was finally cured.

Welp, challenge complete. Been a while since I set myself a challenge and actually finished it so yay for me!
Had a lot of close moments with this one, having 45hp makes quite a difference and it’s been a while since I’ve played without stats through skills but it was also a lot of fun.
I’ll probably keep playing Mel every now and again but honestly she was an absolute beast before picking up resilient and I bet she is a monster now so fighting won’t really be much of a challenge anymore, I’m hoping at some point to find a necropolis and see how she fairs there but that will probably take me quite a bit of searching.

Renita Adkins had just got out of med school when the Cataclysm hit. Unfortunately, she missed the evacuation, and was stuck in a house at the edge of Ryegate, population: zombies and whatever unseen horror caused the explosion and trail of lava at the house across the street.

Fortunately, she wasn’t alone. Renita escaped along with some asthmatic guy named Waldo Tan. He wasn’t exactly her friend (Waldo blanched at the mere suggestion), but he wasn’t useless either. Renita managed to convince Waldo to give her his anti-parasitic tablets, in exchange for promising to get him an inhaler.

Unfortunately, when the pair escaped to their current lodging, the front door apparently locked from the inside. Probably was related to the cannabis farm out back. She still wanted to backhand whoever designed this home, but they were likely dead. She didn’t want to smash the front door, for fear of alerting whatever lava-spewing shit was south, so she’d have get out from the back.

Renita explored the house and grabbed almost everything not nailed down (juice, cigarettes, etc.). She eventually found her way to the living room at the back of the house, with a (locked) metal door out to the cannabis farm. With no other options, she took a risk and smashed the north-most window. The only other item in the backyard was the wood axe in the greenhouse. Suddenly, she heard a noise from the chain-link fence. The window smashing attracted a couple normal zombies. Too make matters worse, Renita spotted an eyebot in the distance, though it hadn’t seen her yet.

Renita escaped back into the house. She waited, hoping they would fail to get through and eventually leave and forget about her. She the heard the sound of metal screeching. This place wasn’t safe anymore. She tried to convince Waldo to come with her, but he either didn’t hear them getting through, or didn’t care. He rebuffed her, bringing up that she already asked him earlier and he wasn’t changing his mind any time soon. She heard the sound of glass crunching from out back. If he was going to be stubborn to his death, so be it.

Renita smashed the window in the hallway and ran away west. She remembered the campsite her and her father used to visit during the summer, before…she was brought out of her memory by the pack of feral labradors down the road along the forest. She kept her distance. Renita stepped over banches, under trees, and waded through underbrush, until finally, she arrived at the empty campsite. Here lied a place of old memories, and her new, temporary home after the end.

By the way, what use is the covered well? Should I smash the cover? Never been to a campsite in this game, and it’s not on the wiki.

Mel swaggered upto the containment cell with new found confidence, she’d fought one of these creatures in the past and it was one of the few creatures she’d been unable to slay. Malvolent eyes bubbled up and pulsed on the surface of the thing, all of them locked on her. She gave it a cocky grin.
Activating her probability travel CBM, she pressed her palm against the glass and slide through unobstructed. The creature flowed foward like some living fluid, an amalganation of different limbs reaching aggressively towards her as it howled with rage.
Mel went to meet it, armour activated, all of her combat systems coming online. Her body sang with the artifical burn of adrenaline, bionic muscles hummed and hissed with power as she smashed her mono-molcular blade into the mass and began tearing into the unnatural horror with a single minded fury.
Energy crackled on the blade, shocking and stunning the beast and it quickly tried to back away. Mel stalked it relentlessly, refusing to give it room to recover, knowing such an act would spell her defeat.
Methodically she drove it back into a corner of the cell, her every move an attack.
With one last foul scream of defiance and defeat the creature melted away, panting, Mel raised her head and roared her victory.

And what a fight it was, that thing soaks damage like a car sized sponge. First time I’ve ever killed one in melee on a non stats through skills character, like I said, Mel is an absolute monster in combat now!

Apparently I managed to capture a flying horror on a 2 seat draisine in a subway and because its stuck I am stabbing it with a wooden spear while driving 59 mph in a really long subway tunnel.

Subway jousting should be a new cataclysm sport

Just finished exploring a research facility, and I gotta say i’m pretty underwhelmed. No matter, it WAS supposed to be a civilian research institute, not some lab bunker with crazy loot. Or maybe i’m just blind and couldn’t find any good stuff.

In any case, I found books on spells and magic, courtesy of magiclysm, might try it out later.

Here’s a new entry on my adventures, if you read the last one i posted here, you’ll enjoy an update.

Trying to find a hackPro so that I can make a control laptop for labs. And boy am I having a hard time of it. Also, putting in spoilers because I thought it was a neat thing to stumble upon myself…

I somewhat forgive the fungaloid scum for allowing me to make easy work of skeleton juggernauts by turning them into weak fungal zombies. Who knew they had an actual use?
