Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!

I don’t really use arrows and when I do I usually make them out of the cardboard boxes from the food I eat. I wish I could melt them for plastic or something.

Why do pumpkins give so few seeds? is it a balance thing? because it seems ridiculous considering how many seeds a real pumpkin has.

What would be a good name for a cannibal version of pemmican?

Pemmiman, Mannican, Mannican’t, Pemmidude, Dudeican/can’t, Hummican, haha maybe one of those? I actually haven’t eaten flesh, except one time when I couldn’t make anything else, or so I thought, when I first started playing. It wasn’t pleasant for my non cannibal survivor. :frowning:

The Pemmi part of the name is based on one of the native languages of america, if I recall correctly, and is supposed to mean ‘fat’.
Considering that, Pemmi-man would mean ‘fatman’ or ‘fatty man’ which I personally find quite funny, and it fits too.

Then what does the can part of it mean?

Dehydrated blueberry, probably.

a quick google or wikipedia search could have answered your question.

The word comes from the Cree word pimîhkân, which itself is derived from the word pimî, "fat, grease". It was invented by the native peoples of North America.

So how do I tell if I am in an enclose area, or inside my truck. If i remove the back windows of a cargo truck, put a hatch in the middle, and a RV unit and Minifridge on each side, will I be safe from the elements in there? Here is a pic of me in and out of the vehicle in question : https://imgur.com/a/qQ9Bp

I am going to add a roof I guess, over top of the minifridge and RV unit, even though there are solar panels… I have the option to. https://imgur.com/vWOPNml

From what I can tell if you have a 3x3 car with the outer tiles being impassable and the middle one having a roof that will protect you from the elements. Hopefully this example is helpful.
Well I installed it, the leukocyte, along with leg alloy, enhanced hearing (have poor hearing trait, selected at chargen!) , and Internal UPS CBM. I have the teleportation CBM, which I guess could be used in a jam, but I did not install it. I have probability travel from an earlier cbm installation session, can you get sick from using probability travel, as I believe you can from the teleportation cbm, and is it the same sickness you’d get from using the teleporting devices you would find in labs?

Oh and a side note, can I find da hoe hoez? https://imgur.com/xA8O6Bu
Im glad you liked that note.

I can reveal it now, since they’ve found it and fixed it without me telling: to get out of labs, you could get to the top level, and hit up again, and it would give you the option to climb up to the roof. It made lab escapes trivially easy… but now they have a ceiling above, so it doesn’t work anymore. Yes, yes, all hail realism, blah blah blah, but it was a convenient exploit.

It was the only way I could escape considering that the walls are now made of reinforced concrete and aparantly the scientists were not smart enough to put in an emergency exit. Now the only escape routes I can think of are hoping to find c4, get lucky with cbms from butchered scientists and storages, and teleporters.

Yes I really like finding the survivor notes! I found one left by Homer Simpson one time, or at least it seemed like it could have been written by him! Cool thanks, I think your right. I noticed after asking that if it is raining, the sound gets muffled when I close the doors an stuff. I’m halfway through Autumn on 90 days seasons, and think I’m going to go out exploring for labs and goodies and stuff all winter.

I kept trying to tell people that in the “how do you escape a lab” posts, but I think people just thought I was crazy or something(I am) I did not realize it was a bug though.

I also encountered a office tower, that had stairs up, but not down. I ended up on the roof, and the tile I stepped off of was where the stairs going down were, so I fell all the way to the basement lol… whoops. Luckily I didn’t break anything.

Nug it wasn’t so much a bug but rather it seemed to be an oversight as technically all building had roofs that protected you from the rain but these did not construct a layer on the z-level above it was just a thing about how z-levels are still somewhat iffy. The only thing that was an actual bug was you being able to climb up a wall to the floor above through a floor.

No, there was no floor there - you could climb up where the stairs were because there was no ceiling above, and no floor on those spots when you got there (you would arrive one tile off, it would ask direction to climb).

There are actually quite a few ways out, and I’ve documented them in multiple threads, but here’s a quick (incomplete!) list:

-getting lucky on loot (explosives, science ID, electrohack, teleporter, etc)
-getting lucky on map gen (sewers, ant hill, etc)
-chemistry (high enough cooking skill, make some explosives)
-electronics (make an electrohack)
-trapping (disarm a teleporter, go place it on the top floor) - this is usually considered the easiest, as I’ve seen EXCEEDINGLY few labs with none of these
-mechanics - build a vehicle and ram the wall/door to get out (yes, actually possible just with stuff you can find in most labs)

Concrete walls do admittedly make it much more difficult than it used to be.

I got lucky(kinda) and found a teleporter trap on the main floor, in one of the rooms, but I had to run by the turret to get to it… I didn’t know what else to do at the time, I still think I died shortly after though from what the turret did to me on the way to the rooms on the main floor, since I had to run by it just a couple tiles away… it wasn’t the best idea. I was starving and bleeding and couldn’t make it to a town or anywhere to loot once I got out, except a nearby campsite with one can of beans. I probably would have done better staying in the lab for a while lol.

Is there a better place than the wiki to look at mutation categories, like what serums can give you what mutations? Or is that still pretty accurate? I won’t cross a threshold unless I take more serum while getting the messages, right? Can you pass multiple thresholds, like try to get the good from a couple lines, or once you’ve passed one that’s it?

One I forgot to list is related to this one: find a teleport trap, step on a bunch of times, then go stand in a corner on the top floor and randomly teleport out.

That one is the easiest by far (you can even try it without dealing with the turret on the top floor, though it can turn out badly), but you’re pretty much guaranteed to get a fungal infection, so only do it if you can deal with that afterwards (don’t worry, royal jelly is common in labs and fixes that problem). Can also result in mutations.
