Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!

Do not sleep with unpulped zombies being around. They can give you a nightmare that lasts forever.

What is going on with experimental tiles and windows x64 builds not being able to update past build 6736? If I click on tiles 32 bit it says I can update to 6742. Can I switch to 32 update and switch back or what is my best option here?

Is there an alternative to butchering zombies that’s as reliable, but faster? And I don’t mean ramming them with my car.

Smashing them.

A high bashing weapon works great, as can a good piercing weapon.

A trench knife or mace.

But hordes are always a chore. A necessary chore if you plan to sleep or stick around for more than 6 hours.

Does smashing corpses prevent them from being reanimated by necromancers? I’ve always wondered that and just butcher everything just in case, but feel I might be wasting time when I’m just there to loot and leave.

Yes.

Thanks, I figured it probably did I just wanted to be sure XD.

Fire?

Fire?[/quote]

Burning >can< prevent the resurrection, but the corpses have to be properly burned ; a small fire won’t usually do the trick.

There is however a fast and easy way: Pulp the corpses. To do that, simply smash the corpses. Once is usually enough, and it’s way faster than butchering.
This should have been obvious by now though, thanks to NuG’s posts above.

Another tip in case anyone is unaware that is reading. You can tell your NPC followers to smash corpses, and I believe it is on by default. So with the help of them it can become much easier if all you want to do is pulp instead of butcher. They don’t smash acidic zombies, like corrosive or spitters either, which is good so they don’t hurt themselves, just remember to butcher them yourselves.

Only problem I’ve found with that, is during battle they will sometimes rush towards enemies to smash a freshly killed corpse I shot with a crossbow bolt… putting them between me and the rest of the enemies. It ends up blocking my shot, and I have to move or rush in to help them. So I just turn the smash corpses option off for my NPCs, but then back on as needed(like after trying to clear a school/home improvement store/mall etc.).

I like my NPCs to stand in place and let me bring enemies to them if I need help, instead of them rushing in mindlessly to smash corpses next to a hulk or something. I am still unclear whether smashing a body that has a chance for bionics to be gained from butchering it, decreases that chance or not. So I like to just butcher those bodies first without having them smash it first, just in case and it makes sense role play wise I guess.

TL;DR: Your NPC followers will also pulp corpses.

Any idea how the stats through skills mod works? I know its a lua mod but I am wondering how the lua calculations work.

all I know about it is that it takes skiils, and uses their level to increase stats.

Are there really people who have played this game for 1+ year and can’t get past the first in-game week? I’ve heard several people mention things to this effect and I find it rather ridiculous. Don’t get me wrong, it took me a long time to get past my first day even, but my first 80+ day character came around 3 or 4 months into my CDDA experience.

Prison break scenario

takes me to day 11 just to detox, usually…

Are minireactors worth it? I just came across of and am debating putting it into my scout car, which is currently solar.

Yes well I am looking inside the lua file now and I can see everything in here but I don’t really know what does what.

Yea mini reactors are worth it if you can keep it full of plutonium.

I have had around 70 or so characters and only two have made it past two weeks: Marloss Man and Marloss Man Reborn. I’m not sure if they count.

That’s the bit I was wondering about. Think I’ll stick with the solar for now.
