Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!
Quick question: anybody have the stats on the monofilament blade? I’m wondering how it compares to the machete, in particular, as I have both, and they both work for Silat (and Eskrima, actually).

Has mask is 16 and does that…

Unless it has changed recently, 15 (survivor mask) is enough - might be lower.
Not counting gas and survivor masks, I mean, and any mouth protection stuff that covers the eyes as well.

As for the monofilament blade… is it that, or the monomolecular blade? If it’s the latter, according to debug, it has 0 bash damage (compared to the machete which has 6), and 36 cutting damage (machete has 20), and takes 78 moves per attack.

Yes, monomolecular… duh, sorry. And wow, that’s NICE - more damage AND faster! Sweet!

As to the gas mask, I was just listing the numbers that I know are sufficient - gas mask is enough, and has 16, survivor mask is enough and has 15, so clearly, 15 is sufficient, but it might be more than enough, I don’t know.

Air Filtration CBM is NOT sufficient, which is a bit annoying, actually.

Edit: I hadn’t thought to check the debug, and apparently, you could even debug yourself a free-standing one (it’s a shame they don’t exist)… and yes, those are the stats… PLUS it’s +3 to hit, which is the highest weapon I’ve ever found (tied with the baseball bat and a very few others). It’s REALLY good!

So what is the plutonium cell consumption of minireactor really? Wiki says no fuel is required but that is probably outdated, right?

So I built a well.
Do I need a pump to get the water? Can’t I use a rope or something?

A pump is a component in constructing a well. When the well is built, there is a water pump.

Strategy on attacking a public works infested w/ shockers? Can craft 5 to 7 grenades, more if I scavenge more stuff but I don’t want to waste my precious hoard of heating elements, empty cans and nails on taking a bunch of shockers.

Few spoilers, pls.

Climb fence, shoot/throw nades, escape climbing fence, and repeat until the zeds die.

Any cheaper alternatives to grenades and/or molotovs?

Slingshot with pebbles. Unless they are brutes or higher, then it will take a long time.

nail boards and nailbombs and slings.

a car works too.

nail boards have a chance to flip over when sprung.
tripwires without parent traps do minor damage
slings and shots are great casual ranged weapons for lightly armored Dodgey things
a car is … a car. you win via the lugnut rule

nail bombs though … are special. cheap and easy, they do shrapnel damage, which is OP as sin. great for even immobile turrets and other shootbots even. great.

Archery is currently 1 but I think I can grind until better recipes for bows comes up. Would they make a good alternative to slings? And I’ll consider the explosives if there’s a brute.

Edit:

Would love some protection against electricity if there was one too. Saw someone mention a electric dissipation CBM or something like that but, currently, those are out of my reach. (Year 1, Autumn Day 4 and I have yet to find a damn welder and some advanced skill books.)
There’s that Faraday Shark Suit that mentions protection about electricity, I just hope there’s more stuff like that.

There are few alternatives cheaper than molotov - glass bottle from liquor store, gasoline from car, and rag from smashed bed.

There is yet an alternative, cheap but time consuming. You can jog - alternating running and walking - faster than a shocker, so you can lead them one by one away from the building and dump them in forest, preferably where mi-gos and bees dwell.

Sometimes one just get lucky with wander spawn. Once I visited a public work I discovered the other day, and saw no zombies but a zombie dog.

Trouble is, glass bottles are used in a handful of late-game recipes and they are kind of hard to find elsewhere of a liquor store. Plus, I had the excellent luck of finding shocker-infested public works, heh.

I’m 'gonna try to take 'em with a self-bow a some fire hardened arrows. Death in some minutes. :V

Edit:

Yeah, definitely a bad idea. Still alive, though.

Good luck!

When the battle stales, don’t hesitate to retreat. There might be no welder in the building, actually.

I have been searching for a welder for long, and haven’t found any. If you happen to be able to read, unlike me, an illiterate lumberjack who saw the only other living human get mauled by jabberwock, you can craft a makeshift welder by a common book with little difficulty.

edit: saw update. That must have been a close call and fun game!

Not really, I like to play it safe. My range doesn’t even bypass the shocker’s. Cooldown is another big problem too.
I think I’ll leave those public works for the time being. There’s a big city far north (found by road map), my only hope is to find a welder there. Of course, that would mean making another base out of the 3 I’ve already made.

It’s a damn outrage, I’ve found two garages filled with stuff and not a single one had a damn welder. I would use a makeshift welder if I wasn’t that much of a battery hoarder (+5k in stock).

Make 3 makeshift welders. Use one of them to make a vehicle welding rig. Attach to any vehicle. Remove from said vehicle. Disassemble vehicle welding rig.

Tada! Welder.

Attack at night - shockers are always visible (since they glow). I’ve been able to hit them with a regular spear without them seeing me when it’s really dark… but even in “lighter” darkness, a pike should work (range 3).

Or drop a bunch of nail-board traps in the area, or throw things at them, or… yeah, they can’t see you (unless you get too close, then they light up the world and EVERYBODY can see you), but you can see them - there are dozens of ways to deal with that situation, and most of them work just as well (if a bit slow) on shocker brutes, too.

If you seek protection from electricity, you can try wearing a hazmat suit. Hazmat zombies sometimes drop them, or the ANBC suit which is the hazmat suit with armor.

Main problem will be encumbrance, though.

Also, the hazmat suit can protect you from acid.

For a more encumbering choice, firefighter zombies also drop entry suits, I think (or you can sometimes find them in fire stations).

Anyone?

Jesus fuck, you goddamn cheater. :V
But that would be kind of irrelevant since the welding rig is my current objective. After that, I’ll be able to assemble my hyper ultra super blaster 30m Chain Gun FuckTruck.

I’ve abandoned the plans on raiding the public works for now and made a base on a refugee center (lights always on!) conveniently placed below a mall. Nail boarding everywhere. Will try to clear off the zed and see if there’s some good loot. Even though that sounds a tad risky, it’s a tactic I’ve never tried before. Thanks for the insight. >:D

Hmm, I thought hazmat suits protect against acid only? I’ll try it out too, thanks a lot.

There are several full-body suits that protect against electricity, all of which have very significant encumbrance (meaning switching is a pain, as you have to remove your helmet and boots at the very least)… but the best of which is any type of power armor (last I checked, they all protected against electricity).

I’ve actually never seen or found sufficient components to make the Faraday suit, and I’ve played this game a LOT.
