Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!

I THINK it helps with either your immune system or to help with radiation… Don’t quote me on that though.

It affects hidden health stat, which in turn affects resistance to diseases and regen speed.

Many thanks to those responding regarding the leukocyte breeder. Probably don’t need it right now in that case.

New question! Do pipe bombs explode if you set the area they are in on fire? Trying to decide on the best way to take out my first fungal spire… Was thinking about just dropping a couple of dozen pipe bombs next to the fungal walls and setting the bed on fire. Would that work?

Not sure if pipe bombs go off if they get set on fire, but AFNO and RDX charges definitely do get explode if you light them on fire. Lost a survivor that way when I was messing around with the debug menu and decided to set those on fire with a lighter.

As far as I can tell, they dont explode in fire, upon trying out my plan. The good thing is a reflex recurve bow is enough to finish the job after the fire got rid of the fungal walls.

So I decided it was high time I started working on the rolling death machine most survivors seem to make at some point or another, but I’d hit a bit of a snag. Namely, I want to add another wheel, but its already heavy enough I can’t life the thing. I need some jacks. Preferably, I need a boom crane. Sadly, I cannot MAKE any of these things. And I don’t know where to find them. Does anyone know the best way to go about acquiring a boom crane?

Boom cranes can be made with Mechanics 6, 32 pipes, and a steel chain. Pipes are all over the place (go disassemble playgrounds or metal racks if you don’t have enough) and steel chains can be found on bicycles, among other locations.

My usual experience is I make/repair a sedan which lets me practice until I get to Mechanics 6, and then I build a boom crane and put together a deathmobile around a security van or APC. The sedan is helpful for gathering parts until you get skilled enough for the final deathmobile.

You can also take parts off your deathmobile until it’s light enough to lift with your available jack. It’s a little tedious, but you need to practice to improve to Mechanics 6 anyway.

Unless I am mistaken, I dont have the recipe for a boom crane. I don’t think its autolearn…

Certainly, I didnt find it in the crafting menu when I searched, and I have mechanics 8 (Gotta love books).

How does a vehicle tracker work? I debugged myself one and placed it on my shopping cart recently.

I uninstalled a car battery from a car, but the alarm keeps blaring (I hotwired it). How do I stop it?

They stop after a while. Might take a day, though.

You need the Mechanical Mastery or DIY Compendium books. Put together a little scout car and go raid a couple of schools. With Mechanics 8, a four-wheeled armored sedan should be easy to make and it’s good practice for something bigger.

i believe its actually outdated. in that its function is performed automatically if desired, even without one. Try ‘tracking’ your vehicle from vehicle control menu.

Don’t one-tile vehicles like the shopping cart lack a vehicle control menu, though?

It has as long as it has a control installed.

How do I install an onboard chemistry set? I have one made, but the Install menu doesnt show it as an option. I am probably missing something obvious…

It can’t be installed anywhere impassable: board, forging rig, etc.

or anywhere with storage: trunk, door, seat, etc.

Did some fiddling around, and upon removing the aisle from the square I wanted to install it, it became an option. Thanks.

Hi people!

First post here with a newbie question (which I couldn’t find an answer for with a search):

I started my first game, I’m at a shelter. A few steps to the north are some lockers, and one of them has some items inside. (At least I guess it’s inside.) I want to open the locker and take those items.

How do I do it? Standing next to the locker and pressing (g)et does nothing. (G)rab isn’t useful, either. Can’t move on top of the locker to (g)et from there. (o)pen doesn’t work, because the game says there’s no door there. So what do I do? Browsing the forum told me it’s possible to smash lockers open, but I don’t want to do that - I want to open it and remove the items from inside.

In fact, and maybe my question ties into a second one: how do I interact with containers to put in or remove thing? Can’t find which key does it.

Thanks in advance for the reply!

you need (e) for examine, then choose a direction. Lets you look at squares next to you, and take any items if present.

For future reference, if you are trying to put something away in an adjacent square, its (D) (note the capital). Then signify a direction
