Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!

So I ate some raw meat and got infected with parasites (I think). Itchy veins, occasional vision loss and a lot of pain. How best to handle this situation? Where can I get antiparasitic drugs? Or should I try to make my own, somehow? There’s a school I can raid so can probably find books that I need. Raided a doctors office and pharmacy but no dice.

Also completely unrelated, I developed an opiate addiction. After I clear the parasites, what’s the best way of handling that? Due to previous mentioned raiding, I have a lot of opiates so intend to keep popping pills until that happens.

How to put food in mini-fridge?

drop it on the tile same as any other. Just make sure its on, and powered.

Basic survival tips:

1. Navigating:

Its very unlikely that a survivor will be in a safe, selfsufficient place to start with. Traveling around is dangerous. The weather, time, wildlife, unknown monsters, undead are all working against us. Tracking of time is important. Daytime is ideal for scouting out nearby areas. As we walk around, we should mark all kinds of hazardous, benefical, strange things. This can help to establish a safe route. For long hikes, a survivor should prepare supplies to take with him/her. Night time is used for raids. For raids a flashlight or anytype of light source is important. The main objective is gather supplies for further survival.

1. Gathering:

If you use caution while exploring the area , this is the easiest way to get usefull items for survival. Always think out your route before you head out, in this way you can systematicly check every point of interest. Since a survivor has limited capacity prioritize what you are looking for. You need tools to craft or construct something? Are the supplies running low? Is there enough weapons to defend myself? just some of the concern. Food should always be gathered, especially to perishable ones. Water or any type of liquid should also be number one on the wanted list. Clothing is important until you get yourself a warm set of clothes. Guns, melee weapons is optional to gather. Depending on the situtation.

2. Combat:

Sooner or later we will encounter hostile entities. For that case its mandatory to carry any kind of weapon. Melee weapons has the advantage of not requiring ammo, but close combat is always extremly dangerous at the begining. With strategic movement we can take on multiple enemies, but as their number grows, we should retreat.

Two probably-silly questions now that I’ve gotten a vehicle set up for farming:

  1. I have an advanced harvester and a scoop to take care of the harvesting side, but it seems like they drain power (it’s an electric harvester) absurdly fast. I had 4 storage batteries fully charged from my base power and burned through more than half of them harvesting what I thought was a fairly small field (a few hundred plots). Is that normal and should I look at letting it run on diesel fuel to meet the power requirements?
  2. I can’t turn on the advanced seed drill that I mounted. It has seeds in it, but I see the option in the vehicle controls as greyed out. What am I doing wrong there? It is currently freezing (very early spring), is that part of it?

Stove and 3 burning two-by-four, and no change in temperature when adjacent in a basement. What I’m missing?

clothing. :stuck_out_tongue:

Does horde spawn in mansion? Where else do they spawn besides city and hospital?

I am in the middle of a large swampland hat covers the whole visible map. The only building is a nearby mansion. If there are only static zombies but no new ones, I will take the mansion.

If you have wander+static on, then I believe they won’t spawn in greater than usual number if you keep quiet. Not 100% though.

I have a question of my own. When did reach attacks become implemented?! I’ve been using the knife spear like a Noob for the longest time post-hiatus.

It was 2015. I staarted playing in spring 2016 and it was already there.

How do you get the parts that mend a faulty engine (filter, etc.) Can they be salvaged from another engine?

I have seen the parts spawn in garages but i have no idea how to get them otherwise.

I have an npc who has both his arms broken from fighting a shocker brute. I have tried to give him an arm splint to repair them but he wont take them due to the encumbrance. How do i get him to heal?

Try the following:

1. Straight up ask him to use the item (option g?). I’m assuming you did this and he told you it’s too encumbering for him to wear.
2. Ask him to tra(d)e with you. Take all the stuff from his inventory so he has enough space to carry the splint, then let him (h)old on to it. Close the dialogue menu, see if he equips it by himself.

3. (e)xamine him, then choose the option to so(r)t his armor. Remove anything he wears on his arms by selecting the armor and pressing (u), THEN trade him/ask him to use the splint. See if he’s willing to use it now.
4. See if you can manually put the thing on him from the same layer menu. Press F1 to see all keybindings.

EDIT: Yeah, you can put the splint on manually! To put a piece of clothing from your inventory on through the layers menu press (e). Do that for your NPC.

I always succeeded in adding a clothing/armor to a NPC from the detailed discussion menu, ‘I want you to use that’, he might drop others clothing, but the one asked for will be put on. If he is friendly, not on guard.

Thanks for the answer on vehicle parts, like filters. I hoped you could grab one from another car.

Why in some instances it is not possible to add a part to a vehicle? I have focus 104, what is happening? I want to put back a car battery I have in inventory.

I’ve got a few banks in my town I want to rob for their CBMs. I crafted an electrohack and powered it with batteries but can’t figure out how to activate it on the vault console. The description does say it can’t be used on “computers” but I hear other people hacking into military bunkers and labs by hacking their consoles, which shouldn’t be too different from the banks’.

What do I do? Do I just choose “hack into the system” and let it do its thing? I highly doubt I can actually hack it if the electrohack doesn’t do its job. My computers is at 2 and electronics at 6.
What happens if I fail? Is it just eyebots, or something worse?

EDIT: I said yes to the “hack into the system” prompt and the doors swung open without any trouble. My electrohack is still fully charged. I’ve got no idea how I managed to hack into a bank’s vault with computers 2 lmfao
You’d think bank vaults would be better protected. What can I do with my electrohack then? I don’t need to hack into vending machines or gas pumps, I’ve got more money than I’ll ever need to use on those. Anything else?

Electrohacks don’t work on consoles, they work on card readers like you find in labs or military bunkers. The game does not do a very good job of making that clear.

There were only static zombies. I cleared them on day 1.

I have found a working mini-tank with machinegun and 120 mm gun. Both have ammos, but I don’t get how to fire them (independently if that possible). The MG is set to target automatically, but I have no key to fire it…

Also, how can I set the plutonium reactor to recharge batteries? Weirdly enough in the control menu this is written ‘turn off reactor’, so I guess it is ON ? and yet the storage batteries discharge over time!

if I remember correctly you need to:

  1. Not currently be holding something that can be fired. Maybe stop wielding your weapon.
  2. Sit in the seat in front of the desired gun.
  3. press f to fire.

You are now controlling the turret manually.

ok, it seems it work for the main gun, if I have no weapon in hands.

The MG seems to be only either in auto or not, I can’t fire with it. It is not adjacent to my seat.

Can you see my additional question about batteries discharging please? thanks
