I believe someone said reactors don’t work in the current builds. Might’ve been in this very same thread, actually. I’ll edit it into this post if I find it.
Where do you find Portal generators?
The game has started “failing to save player data”. Before this started happening, my last two saves loaded with warnings saying the game was looking for a “[” matrix starter and found a " ". I have then game window alt-tabbed right now. How do I fix this? Note that my last two saves were on the first underground level of a lab.
You should ask this in The Garage you’ll probably get a faster answer there.
Are vehicles fixed yet? (fuel efficiency, multiple engines, excessive slow-down driving over fields, excessive slow-down from hitting minor obstacles)
There’s a mod to handle fuel efficiency, and as far as I can tell offroad performance and collisions are fine. Multiple engines are still broken.
Portal generators are god-awfully rare. I’ve found 4 in my time of playing (2 yrs, dozens of seasoned characters, default item drops). Two of them I found down in labs, two out in the fields among dead scientists - lab coats, science IDs… that sort of stuff, and then a surprise portal generator. It’s possible you have to have the Vehicle Additions Pack mod enabled in order to get them. I usually have. I hope all this tells how rare the item is but then again my power of observation isn’t perfect and I also stop checking out the loot on scientists after some time into the game, probably when I believe I have all the science IDs I could possibly need. So for all I know I may have missed 10 of them in my time.
If anyone out there keeps their old saved games, it might be fun to search through them with like Notepad++ to find any missed portal generators. o_O
Theyre rare but they do spawn.
check teleporter rooms in labs
What’re they for? Never seen one before.
For crafting a vehicle cargo container that can hold… a lot of items. And when I say “a lot” you couldn’t possibly comprehend the immensity of the understatement of it. 8D

You can install it on your vehicle in order to create a cargo dimension. If you know Dungeons and Dragons, think Bag of holding. This cargo dimension can hold…what was it, 100.000? 1.000.000? Liters of Volume. Something like this. Basically, one of those and all your problems with space are gone forever. Only problem is, it gets very, very cluttered very fast, that’s why I never use them. I can live with a monstrous vehicle as long as it’s sorted nicely - but a cargo dimension can be useful for a small, very fast and agile vehicle.

Well ho ho holy hell, I know what I’m putting in Santa’s sleigh for all his presents! Mininukes for everyone!
Install 2 of them, Declan. One for all the coal for the bad kiddies, one for the presents.
Also, i just checked:
It can hold 250.000 Liters. That’s a shocking amount, my biggest cars don’t even reach 15.000 Liters, and I was never able to completely fill one of those up.
I don’t want to play the smart a*** or anything but I don’t understand, and really I say that with a good amount of respect for the volunteers coding the game. Why do I see every day fixes on that and that in the change log, but something super important like plutonium reactors not working is not fixed? Is it because it requires a vast amount of code?
@Nibelung44:
CDDA’s code is old and some of it is sort of jumbled together, so while some things are easy to fix others require delving into a dozen different files and reading hundreds of lines of code if you don’t happen to know a specific thing.
Lots of people would rather avoid an issue they aren’t sure how to fix rather than maybe break a dozen other things fixing it, or spending an entire day figuring out how it works.

All your space problems gone forever?
HA! I laugh at the mere suggestion - unless it’s changed in the last couple of months, there’s still a 4000 ITEM cap, so no, it’s still pretty easy to fill them up.
They are really, REALLY useful for carting around a lot of very large items, though (say, heavy frames, for instance, or 55 gallon drums).
how do you deconstruct wheels for plastic? are there better sources for plastic?
just want to make some arrows xD

Computer consoles have a good bit, so labs and schools (among other places).
Arcades, IIRC, are a GREAT source for both plastic and ball bearings.
As far as zombie drops, cleansuits, rollerblades, hazmat suits, rubber boots and gloves (those are pretty useful for plastic in general - labs, schools, lots of places), also, some firefighter gear.
I’m sure I’m leaving out some good ones. Oh, the smaller gas tank smashes to plastic (unless they’ve changed it recently), and plastic jerrycans and other plastic containers (gallon jugs) can be pretty good.
I’ve looked into the golden fiddle, just for curiosity’s sake.
As far as I can tell, it looks like it just has some neat flavor text. Are there any other abilities that are not obvious? Like better morale boosts or maybe even nether attention?

thx a lot. so we can not deconstruct wheels?
the FAQ says: Where can I get plastic chunk?
Wheel removed from abandoned vehicle is also a good source, a single wheel can easily provide around 20 chunks.
