Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!

To set turret target modes, make sure your vehicle has vehicle controls then try to “e” the controls or “^” to open driving menu while driving. A list of options shows up, “t” and “X” I think, that allow setting turrets to “manual shot / automatic targeting” and “Semi Auto / Automatic firing”. There is a third option that lets you take control of all of your turrets to attempt to fire on a specific tile or enemy. Some turrets might not have a semi-auto firing mode. Consult the wiki for more information.

AFAIK to install a new floor, you probably have to destroy the old one. I don’t know if cave floors can be destroyed but I know that normal floors can be destroyed by the Sonic Resonater CBM (amazingly handy) or "a"pplying pickaxe (slow), jackhammer (gas), electric jackhammer, or just using lots of explosives. Be wary of causing cave-ins, destroying a floor also destroys the roof and may cause rubble to fall.

Are vehicles fixed in newest experimentals? I am using a fairly recent version, and I have just found out that vehicles are horribly, horribly broken.

Just sunk a whole bunch of time fixing up a security van and quickly found it can barely move off-road… This is just stupid, and I really hope it is just a bug that has since been corrected…

I found my dream bicycle and a neat Luxury RV two tiles apart today :). Both will need some work to be optimal but atm it’s just to good to be true.

1/Does vanilla cdda have a craft recipe for bicycle wheel ?Maybe I couldn’t find any up to now, but there’s definitely a recipe for wheelchair wheels for instance. Could i use car wheels, or scooter wheels, on a bicycle frame ?

2/The rv is a solar one, with annex tanks of gasoline, almost empty. I’ve heard we couldn’t switch between energy sources to fuel the vehicle, is it still true ?

Can anyone comment on the current status of vehicles? They seem to have been a right mess for some time now.
Can anyone comment on the current status of vehicles? They seem to have been a right mess for some time now.
If you’re referring to the fuel efficiency problems, I was told they were fixed in the last bunch of experimental builds. Download the latest experimental and check for yourself. Otherwise, make sure the wheels are intact and that your vehicle isn’t too heavy for the installed engine. Still, fixing broken (red/purple) vehicle parts takes an absurd amount of welder charges so naturally you’d be better off replacing them entirely.

[s]Double-posting because URGENT QUESTION:

How do I fire a mounted turret? I’ve never had the opportunity to use one before, but a pack of shady zombies appeared out of nowhere while I was working on my Humvee and I wanted to blow it to pieces with the mounted Mark 19 grenade launcher. I haven’t changed the layout of the turret tile and everything is repaired to full HP, but I still can’t set the turret to fire automatically nor can I make it fire by using the vehicle controls or when standing over it and pressing (f). I’ve made sure the turret is loaded with its corresponding ammo type.

What am I doing wrong here? Selecting various aiming/firing modes skips a turn but otherwise does nothing.[/s]

EDIT: Nevermind! I got it. Drop your weapon, walk up to mounted turret with bare hands, (f)ire manually. I also forgot to set it back to semi-automatic mode so I wasted 10/25 40mm rounds killing 2 shady zombies, plus killing my trusty companion which survived by my side for 21 days.

Great.

At least the .gif turned out quite nice.

FYI: Automated vehicle turrets require “turret chassis” (or “turret frame”?) to be installed first on the same tile. That’s a thing in the Vehicle Additions Pack.

What can I do with empty cash cards? Storing all the money inside one left me with 19 empty cards to spare. I desperately need plastic chunks but it doesn’t seem like I can (B)utcher them or disassemble them otherwise. The wiki suggests you use them as kindling for fire but I doubt this is still relevant (as they’re made of plastic and I’m sure the community wouldn’t overlook that fact). Anything else to do with them?

i think you can use them to craft arrows (to make the tail bit)

Aaanyways, you just need to install the turret, then the relevant controls (not the regular controls or the remote control controls, the other controls). That’s it.

We often think of plastic as non-flammable, perhaps due to its wide use in products we use frequently? However plastic is a petroleum product, and as such is HIGHLY flammable. Like if your house burns THIS is whats going to make the firefighters potentially go into containment mode instead of “save the building” The fact that it melts as it burns plus its high flammability means that basically anything that is made of plastic, you might as well think of as a small bottle of gasoline awaiting the flame.

any firefighter would rather face a wooden fire than a plastic one.

Are your NPCs set to only attack things nearby?
I may have set the distance scaling too high, but even with it, the guns should bump priority pretty high.
NPC with a shotgun chased after me (While I had debug invincibility so I wouldn’t get instakilled). Unloaded it onto me at 6 tiles away, companions still didn’t do anything. Latest experimental.

Is it possible to recharge electricity-supplied tools using car battaries? If it is, then - how?

yes, by installing a UPS mod on the tool and a UPS recharging station on the car, if you place the tool on the charging station, it will then recharge using the car’s battery

Yep. To expand on what Gnorse said, you can find the UPS mod recipe here. These materials can be found in electronics stores, or obtained by disassembling car parts/various electronic devices. Here’s the recipe for the UPS recharging station; once you craft it mount it on a vehicle which has controls on it, turn the charger on via said controls then (D)rop your item (with its UPS mod attached) on the charger tile. No further interaction required. If the vehicle has power, you’ll gain one unit of power for your tool per turn.

So, I’m running into a problem I’ve never had before…

I can’t find a copy of Guide to Advanced Emergency Care, even after a VERY thorough search.

I’ve cleaned out at least a dozen mansions (probably more like two dozen), checked every library I can find, and been to the loot room of at least a dozen labs… nothing.

So, where all can they spawn? I think I’ve gotten one from a lab before, so maybe I should go fully clear the half-ish or so of the labs I’ve hit, just to see if it was there and I didn’t notice on my way to the bottom?

Any other places? Spider basements, obviously, but I’ve cleared at least two dozen of those…

labs, mansions, i think libraries.

we should add them to hospitals if they are not yet

I found mine in a Fire Station, of all places. It was paired with its little brother, First Responder somthing.

School is good place to find book. You may have to drive for days and search through multiple schools, but it is relatvely easier.

Where lvl4+ electronic books can be found?
