if my memory is well only falling celling when zombies bashed down wall managaged (or mininuke exploding in hands) managed to damage you so why you need bigger gun?
because explosions are FUn¡™
When you spawn in the “missed” scenario, what houses can you spawn in? Does the game just generate a city then just drop you into a house?
“House” Implies every house.
Dog house, Preper house, Boobytrapped house, Katana house, Boring house, Garage house, Empty house, Random House In The Middle Of nowhere house.
Any_House that uses the id “house_[direction]” as an id.
I’ve suffered years of nerfs since those glory days. Now I frequently take damage. I actually fear guns now! A good-sized horde with big units and necromancers is a threat! What has this game come to!
Also, I may be nearly invincible with my combat bionics on, but my clothing is not.
By the way, with all the changes what type of play-style changes would i have to do to get to the lategame.

I got a lab finale that was just a huge empty room with a broken console in the center and a single Science ID card sitting in front of it.
Is this supposed to happen? It was pretty disappointing and the wiki doesn’t mention anything like it as a possible finale.
Hmm, haven’t heard of (or found) anything quite like that… but I did hear plans of making a finale that always had a science ID (as a way of getting out). If it had 4 pillars or something in a square nearby, that could be a Sub-prime Contact console (and something broke it before you got there?). Those are pretty annoyingly useless.
There were 4 radio towers in a square next to the computer, so that’s probably what it is.
I misspoke, the console isn’t broken as in “broken into pieces”, it’s broken as in “dark screen, examining it does nothing except state that it’s a broken console”.

Oh sweet, I’ll look and experiment with all the scenarios and houses I can get.

Yeah, that’s definitely it then. Don’t worry, the console being broken doesn’t really change the level of uselessness any - it’s already totally pointless at the moment, even when the console works. Perhaps someday it will do something useful.
Ah, alright. Pretty much sums up my luck right there, of course the one time I find a non-ice lab it gets me this haha. At least the materials, mutagen, and recipe books I found along the way made the trip worth it.
Thanks for your help.
It’s not too different aside from nighttime being a bit more dangerous now. I find that a combination of rollerblades and flashlight luring can sort out an overwhelming majority of your problems though. Still haven’t figured out a great countermeasure for Shady Zombies. You just have to fight them and pray that you don’t get infected. Aside from that, the good old “secure shelter, secure water, secure food, secure books, build deathmobile, take over the planet,” strat still dominates.
You can enhance that with a little thought, rollerblades kill your dodge even if you’ve got the right profession (your dodge is halved if you have the right profession, or divided by five if otherwise), but you can make up for that with the right MA and/or gear, namely, you want something that grants blocking.
If you are using your limbs to block, add some armor there and pick the right MA for you: don’t worry about extra blocks unless you’re getting tag-teamed by zombies too much, but look for block damage reduction: Tai Chi has the biggest reduction there (100% of your PER), Taekwondo only grants half as much (50% of your STR), but it may be better if your PER is much lower than your STR (note that having leg blocks as well as arm blocks doesn’t mean you block more often, it just means the damage gets spread over more parts).
If the problem is that they hold you too long and the other nasties reach you, then you might want something more offensive. Some MA techniques are Block Counters, that is, they can only happen when you block and they grant you a free hit, sadly, they aren’t that common: your options are biojutsu (a pain to get, requires skill 4 AND armored limbs), Brawling (skill 5 but easy to get), and Dragon (obtained at skill 4). Out of them, Dragon has the highest damage potential (you need high INT for that tho), and it gets bonus damage and accuracy if you moved before attacking (which should be the case for your roller).
If you’re going with a weapon, you can’t go wrong with Fencing. Yes, yes, the weapon selection sucks, but every one of them has the Blocking quality, and Fencing has a Block Counter technique that hits for +50% stabbity and stuns on top of getting a +2 stab per move (max 2 stacks), so if a shady surprises you and you block, it’s going to be in a world of hurt.
The other good option is eskrima, eskrima hits hard and fast, and you want that so you can get away before some damn shocker ruins your day.
Don’t go Niten early tho, by the time your character stops posing around like a weaboo doing the slow-as-fuck water cut, you probably have 3~4 zombies that got far too close to comfort. Niten is only worth looking at when you have enough skill to use the nice techniques.
Traps are something to take a second look at, they don’t do anything for the shadies, but for everything else? if you can handle the weight, the extra mobility of rollers mixes well with some of those… or just roll around with a hose, a jerrycan and a lighter
Add a small plastic bottle to that, for easy spreading of the gasoline (unless there’s been an improvement on the unloading interface in the last couple of months) instead of dumping it all in one place.
Speaking of traps, I haven’t seen one of those random trap piles with a tin can of beans or whatever in the middle. Are they still in the game?
Where do standpipe maintenance logs tend to drop?
Y’know, the “special” kind of standpipe maintenance logs.
My own set of very newbish questions, if you please.
a) where should I look in the interface to see my hunger and thirst?
b) what is the simplest mean to see the possible interactions between me (and my items) and an item on the map? Say I have a knife, there is a wood counter, why can’t I chip away some parts so I can use the wood to lit a fire?
c) I pulled from a fridge a gallon of milk, drank some. How can I put back the rest of the milk into the fridge?
d) subsidiary question, are fridges always working, even if the car battery is at 2% ?
e) is throw skill at 1 meaning I have now +1 to hit?
f) I don’t understand the interface about encumbrance on each body part. Is there a diagram somewhere?
g) Can I craft nails? How can I tear in part a locker?
h) what is an easy to do backpack, pouch, without leather/skin I mean
i) How do I wait some turns, the shortcut don’t work for me
And that’s it, for now, big thanks!
a) Top right.
b) Trial and error and experimentation, really. You can’t usually do things that perform minor changes (Shaving off kindling for a fire from a counter), but you can usually make significant changes ('S’mashing the counter down into planks and scrap wood, to use in a fire).
c) If you press ‘D’ (Capital keys matter), it’ll ask you the direction you want to drop things in. Stand by the fridge, and drop the items in its direction.
d) Fridges can be turned off an on in vehicles from the controls. when you press ^ on the drivers seat, you’ll get a bunch of options. It’ll run until you either turn it off, or the battery goes dead.
e) Its more complex than that, I believe. I don’t know the exact formula off the top of my head.
f) Not a diagram, but the general rule of thumb is to try and keep encumbrance around 20-40 on the torso if you don’t want to be constantly whiffing melee attacks. Each body location has four layers (close to skin, normal, worn over clothes, and strapped). If you have more than one item that wants to be on each layer, you suffer an additional encumbrance penalty. The first number is the base encumbrance, the second number is the penalty.
g) Yes, but you need some tools, and skills to make them. To break down a locker (Or anything), just press S to 'S’mash. Keep smacking it until it breaks, or it says your not doing any damage. If it does that, try a bigger weapon. Rocks work fine to smash down lockers.
h) If you can get a spare set of pants, and some string, you can make a makeshift knapsack. Its not much, but it’ll help. There’s also bindles and whatnot you can make with sheets and sticks and strings. In the crafting menu, check under clothing>storage (Or is it containers? Don’t remember right now)
i) pressing ‘.’ or ‘5’ (On the numpad) will pass single turns. If you want to pass more time, press ‘|’, and you’ll get more large scale time windows.
Thanks a lot Profugo Barbatus, I appreciate.
About (a) I know that the status are in top right, but I can’t understand where I should look for thirst and hunger? Unless there is nothing shown until I need to drink or eat?
Ho, I forgot, I killed a Racoon and a coyote, what I can do with them? I have a knife, I would have though I can get some skin and meat? And then what? I would lit a fire probably, but I don’t know how… I’m so newbish!
Oh yea, the hunger and thirst notifications don’t appear until your actually hungry and thirsty.
Stand over the corpse, and press ‘B’ to butcher. Works on items that can be cut up too (Blanket to rags, boots to leather patches, etc). Protip, if you kill shocker zombies or scientist zombies, cut them up. If your lucky, you’ll get some cybernetics modules out of them.
As for starting a fire, you can either activate a lighter or a match in your inventory to set fire to a tile, or use ‘%’ to pull up a general context menu. It holds lots of common, misc functions that people use. You’ll see the option to start a fire there. Recommended you keep the fire away from buildings though, and make sure there’s fuel. Anything burnable on the tile will work. If you must have the fire inside or near a building, try and make or find a Brazier, they’ll keep fire from spreading.
Do keep in mind you can also do most cooking tasks with a hotplate instead of a fire, if you’ve got one and the batteries for it.

a) You don’t see anything until your character actually gets hungry, thirsty or sleepy. If you eat enough, you’ll see “full” or “slaked” though.
b) There isn’t really. You can either smash a counter with an object that delivers bash damage. The stronger you are, the better. Smash repeatedly if necessary. Chairs are weak. Doors and counters might be bit stronger. You can also deconstruct things in the environment. Hit * for construction menu, and select ‘deconstruct’, which requires some tools. Use (activate) hacksaw to cut down fences and metal bars. Try activating any item you carry, liberally. Also hit % to get a special menu. I think it includes all the things you can do with your currently carried items.
c) If this is a normal household fridge, they aren’t on, and they won’t preserve anything. If it’s a car minifridge, just drop the item on it, or use advanced inventory (default key: forward slash / ).
d) The minifridge will work for a while if there’s no power production. Make sure it’s on (at vehicle controls). Note that your car is likely capable of producing power. Car power production requires an alternator and a running engine. So, if you keep an engine and the minifridge on, the net result could be zero. I’d let the battery charge though.
e) It’s more complex than that. STR determines how far you’ll be able to throw. DEX affects. Also PER. Eye and arm encumbrance are factors, too.
f) Something like 24+2 (40) means you have 24 encumbrance and +2 penalty for having multiple items on the same layer. (40) is actually current ongoing warmth change. 40 would be pretty warm. To see the effects of encumbrance, go to your character sheet (default @), and navigate to the reported body locations. Use TAB and arrow keys. Anything below 20 is negligible IMO. Avoid pink/red numbers.
g) I think it’s faster to get nails from home improvement stores and hardware stores, where you’ll find nails by the hundreds at once. And just by smashing every wooden object. Set nails to auto-pickup. You can still craft them, but that requires skills (my guess is fabrication), possibly even a crafting recipe. See (b) for locker deconstruction.
h) The swag bag. Requires a canvas bag. Very crude but efficient in the beginning. Then there’s the normal (cloth) backpack. It gets wrecked in melee combat though. Leather backpack is actually pretty durable.
i) . or keypad 5
Seriously, check your keybindings. You’ll get a lot of ideas from there.
There’s a wiki somewhere on the internet too.
