Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!

Ah of course, I feel silly now. Thanks.

Well, new problem… what does one do when you become trapped on the roof of a 2 story house that doesn’t have stairs back down for some reason?

Jump out the window. Smash a hole in a wall and jump out.

I cant help but notice that the time-honored tradition of ‘hit shit with a stick until it dies’ no longer suffices. what gives?

There was no window but the edge of the roof worked, dumped me inside the second floor, fortunately. Was expecting much more fall damage than that.

twas this

And Ive had instantly better results cheesing shrubs with a 2x4. better than a cudgel.

So, I think this save I’m currently playing on is the one where I have the best survivor so far .

I have some heavy survivor gear ( gloves, boots and suit ) and I’m waiting to collect some more kevlar to make cargo pants and a couple other things.

I melee’d a shocker brute with a punch dagger. Arguably though, I had a NPC take a few hits for me, also I used a bear trap to immobilize it. The NPC even stole the kill from me by dealing measly 3 damage. :’<\

Thanks to that I’ve gotten my hands on a power storage CBM ( was it CBM? I always forget the shortcut for bionics ) and cranial flashlight CBM ( I think that was the name or something ).

Anyway, I’ve got 2 questions:

  1. Is there a limit to power storage CBM’s? I’ve noticed the flashlight one takes one space in the eyes, but power storage has no such information.
  2. Also, is there any way to train electronics from 3 to 4 without a skill book? I have a book which will take me from 4 to 5, and then another book which will train me all the way up to 10, but I need that 4 electronics first :’(

  3. There is no limit to power storage CBMs, and the slot limits for CBMs are currently shown, but not yet enforced as they’re still being balanced. You can currently have every bionic in the game installed at once.

  4. Gimme a sec with 2, just doing some experiments now.

-Update- After investigating, there doesn’t seem to be any easy way to do this. I seem to recall this issue being raised previously, but can’t remember what the answer from the devs was. There are a few items requiring level 3 electronics which can be disassembled to gain skill, but without a book containing the recipe you wouldn’t be able to do this repeatedly without disassembling a lot of them, and they’re quite rare. Examples of completely reversible electronics 3 recipes are the coilgun, directional antenna, and food dehydrator.

  4. Find or make a soldering iron, a couple hundred batteries, and some copper wire and scrap metal. Get some decent focus up, and then make and disassemble an extra battery mod repeatedly. This will level you up pretty quickly, with minimal expenditure of resources. You’ll likely fail a few times before you get to level 4, so have spare wire and scrap metal on hand.

If you don’t have any copper wire, you can usually find small amounts of it by dismantling any electronics you find, or disassembling broken PCs using the construction menu (requires a hammer and screwdriver).

Thanks a lot. I am such a packrat that my hideout is literally drowning is scrap metal, copper wire, thousands of rags etc. This will be my second skill that reached 10.

EDIT:

It didn’t work. The main skill for the extra battery mod is fabrication. I made a couple mods and disassembled them, however my electronics is still at 0%. Kinda sucks that required skills don’t get trained, only the main one does.

Sorry, you saw my post before I was able to update it! That doesn’t actually work, as apparently required secondary skills don’t train said skills, and for some reason the extra battery mod uses Fabrication as it’s main skill. Sorry if I’ve led you on a wild goose chase by the time you read this!

See my edited post above for my actual conclusions.

Don’t worry, I’ve found the answer. Basically, thermo electric clothes ( socks, gloves, balaclava, outfit and suit ) can be used to get electronics up to 4. Best thing is that I found that out by accident, as autumn started and my character started complaining about the wind lol. All of them have electronic 3 as the main skill and tailoring 2 as a required secondary skill.

The only caveat is that I’m gonna have to go on a oven-disassembling spree as I used up all my heating elements.

I have just updated my CDDA from some 6xxx version all the way to 19078.

First, now how can I craft something from a book? Skill level is enough, book and material and tools are all right inside inventory, but the recipe just would not show up. Please do not tell me that books got nerfed so hard that you need to read it for days and pray to the RNG god to actually learn and use the recipe you needs.

Also, why are the names of firearms and ammos changed to non-specific ones? Regulation issues? I can’t see any other possible reasons since most of the “zombie surivial” genre’s enthausiasts would have little problem with those gun specifiations… Or am I wrong?

  1. Keep the books you read once near by for recipes.
2.You must be using the generic guns mod.

(1)After more testing I foung out that this problem is maybe specific to The Bowyer’s Buddy, in which none of the recipes in the book other than bullet crossbow will show up after reading and keeping it near .
(2)facepalm

There may still be some errors related to new crafting. It has got some aggressive caching optimizations that result in weird edge cases.
No book nerfs are intended.

As for generic names: that’s what Generic Guns mod does.

hey all, how do things work for tanning and curing hide/pelts into something useable?
and what skills do I need?
hey all, how do things work for tanning and curing hide/pelts into something useable?

Mainly survival, but I believe cooking and fabrication is involved.

You need salt water and/or a fire
Depends on how high your skills are and if you can make cured pelts with or without salt.

Tannin is needed for tanning I believe, so acorns or tannin bark.

Just read books on survival and fabrication or just forage bushes and craft stuff.

Look there for the item that you want and you can look up the crafting recipe among other stuff.

how does armor for the feet/hands contribute to limb protection?

ie whats the chance of a hand/leg physical armor coming into play?

Asked something like this once. Page 1036. Check especially the last bits of Coolthulhu’s answer.

Then there is special attack targetting, which uses a third set of rules, in bodypart.cpp. This is the only kind of targeting that can hit hands, feet and mouth.

Well, there are plenty of special attacks at least.

I would like to see more foot/hand attacking, though.
