I don’t know if this helps but in an earlier version of the game I was definitely training up my archery skill by firing arrows at inanimate objects like walls and trees. I’m not sure if actually hitting an object affects anything at all. Helps with finding your arrows though.

I’m experimenting with trying to get my torso encumberance low enough to actually use my katana.
Seems kind of odd that the scabbard gives torso encumberance. If anything you should be tripping over it since it’s dangling down.
Even if I just have a couple of back holsters, a heavy survivor suit and a survivor duffle bag, I already have a huge penalty to using the sword…
What kind of scabbard are you wearing and how old is your game? In the current versions, there’s a regular “scabbard” that goes on the leg and holds up to about 8 volume weapons. Then there’s a “baldric”, a torso scabbard that holds about 9 or 10 IIRC and goes in the “waist” layer, allowing you to wear a backpack along with it without suffering a penalty. Finally, there’s the “back scabbard”, which holds literally anything (you can fit the largest swords, nodachi and zweihanders in it) but goes in the “strapped” layer, which gives you a penalty if you wear a backpack alongside it.
In the version I’m using I’m only aware of one such item and it’s just called “scabbard” and it counts as a torso/belt type item. I don’t think the waist existed separately in this way in this version…
I’d like to upgrade but I hear the new version has a crapload of bugs breaking engines etc, and I’m not sure if I can without other stuff screwing up too.
I dunno where you’ve heard that, but the current game is one of the most stable versions I’ve ever played. Hasn’t crashed once.
I never said anything about it crashing. I read in a few threads that vehicle engines don’t refuel properly now, and also the turret mechanics have been changed which has messed up the tank mod and vehicle additions mod.
On another subject, any advice on finding science labs? I see none on my world map but I imagine that’s because I used a road map and they wouldn’t be on that.
I think the tank and vehicle addition mods are ok, but I’m not sure. I did hear about the refueling issues and don’t know if vehicles refuel properly right now; I haven’t updated in a while.
yea.
like its amazing. people dont think the devs read the same bug report threads?
literally every player is a potential dev and bigfixer
More like everyone is a potential json script kiddie.

I don’t see how this is too much of a problem. All it takes is some research into how the code works, and you can add jsonized content to the game. You can add new guns, mutations, books, monsters, even whole locations on the map. That’s literally the whole point of having parts of this game be jsonized, so people can add new content.
What are my potential options for underground power?
It might be a good idea to just use Pedal Power. Bicycle pedals and an Alternator to charge a set of batteries, which can then power a crafting rig. Later on you can get a Vortex Generator and hook it up to a truck alternator for essentially infinite(albeit slow) power.
Could you be a bit more specific? Everything that works above ground and isn’t called “Solar Panels” works just as well underground. You’re going to be building a “vehicle” with the workstations that you need, hooking them up to storage batteries, and powering them with a bunch of alternators hooked up to an engine of some sort. I’d reccomend a 1 cylinder engine. Or a footcrank if you’d rather generate the power with your own stamina.
i noticed that we can now make lighters on lvl 0 skill.i like ability to make refiable lighter but seems to me like a bug especially since it is avaible on begining. Is it?
You could build a solar charging rig on the surface and stick a crapload of storage batteries in it (removable ones is more convenient) then just move them to underground when charged and plug them into another vehicle/construction down there.
Quick question:
Has the Survivor suit been ‘fixed’? The last time I played (~a month ago), it was inferior in pretty much every aspect to the Survivor Trenchcoat + Cargo Pants combo, which is IMHO a bit counter-intuitive.
It was always better than the combo you’re describing and it hasn’t been changed in months.
100% coverage is much more important than those few points of armor and storage.

Really? Cause I was under the impression that with a trenchcoat and cargo pants, you were already pretty much invincible to anything besides a Hulk and some of ther top-tier nether critters, so to me, storage IS more important than coverage. But anyway, thank you for clarification.
Drag a cart. It’s better than wearable storage.
Anything with coverage below 100% can never be considered invincible. 95% coverage on whole body will still let in the occasional punch and bite, so if you get grabbed and piled on, it’s still an emergency.

The trenchcoat can be worn over the survivor suit without penalty.
That said, I do use the LIGHT survivor suit for the lower torso encumbrance.

I would use the Road map and then go to all of the dead end roads, that is usually where labs are.

How does this file work? It would seem that the values defined are tracked, and that upon reaching a threshold (halp?) you recieve either the deficit or abundence effect, which is defined in the effects/json file. Is this true? Ima be trying to add my own effects, because even if the game isn’t ‘100%’ Im a little sick of eating vitamans if no penalty can come. Even minor ones.
Yes this is a bug. A bunch of disassembly recipes are showing up in the recipe list.
