It is perfectly plausible for parents in the future to name their children after memes. “Moon Unit Zappa” “4Real” etc…
In the future? They’re doing that now!
Tip- My new favorite way to do early(ish) on heavy vehicle construction, makeshift welder with UPS mod that is recharged in a cargo unit of a vehicle with a UPS recharging station. Unless you’re skilled/lucky enough for a real welder of course. Even better, as long as the welder stays in the cargo, it keeps charging… And you’ll never have to stop to let it recharge. As long as you’re ‘in range’ of the spot it is in. Flatbed trucks work well for it since they start off with external cargo spaces, and gasoline is rather plentiful once you have a hose and a few cash cards.
I just discovered the joy of “Y” for zone creation. My inner DF player is clapping in glee. No autopickup here? Cool. Restrict NPCs from grabbing my loot in these places? Cool. Make piles and name them so with one button press I can locate where I’ve dropped what? Cool.
How long our characters can live without food? We die suddenly or gradually?
Only NPCs in your group follow that no-pick-up thing, and you can already set them to not pick up, so it doesn’t really solve the “hostile NPC takes my stuff” problem.
Gradually. For example the hidden hunger meter runs between 0 and 6000 with Very Hungry being only 80 or so and 2000 being Starving!. You’re not dead until it maxes out at 6000. That being said the stat penalties from starving can kill you long before you actually starve to death by reducing your speed and combat ability drastically.
Two questions:
-
Has something been changed about how ankle sheats work? I definitely remember them being able to hold a knife or a small pistol, but now they seem to only work with pistols, which is a bummer. Sure, you can always store your knives in your boots, but that seems… rather unrealistic. Who in his right mind would walk around with an unsheated blade in his footwear?
-
More of an opinion poll, but what is your favorite/go-to weapon in each category of guns (handguns, rifles, smgs, shotguns)?
On the subject of npc`s not stealing stuff
i think its a good job the Y menu only does it for folloing npc`s other wise it would be cheating…?

To 1.: The Ankle Sheath has a max. Volume of 2. That means it can hold all Knives with 2 or less Volume, like Hunting Knives, Butcher Knives, Dive Knives, Trench Knives and so on. Bigger Knives like the Survival Knife doesn’t fit though.
The Ankle Holster has the same Max. volume of 2 and a max weight of 1000, which is 1kg or around 2.2 lb.
to 2.:
It really depends on the situation, but I do have a few favourites - they aren’t all that useful though, to be honest:
Handgun: FN Five Seven (Ammo is kinda hard to come by, so it can be quite useless as a main handgun.)
Rifle: .50 Caliber Rifle (Basically useless unless you can snipe from a safe distance, due to the 1 round limit. But damn, i love the Idea of my character using such a weapon as sniper rifle.)
smgs: Don’t really like smgs ; if I’d had to choose it’s either the STEN or the Thompson, because novelty.
Shotgun: Mossberg 500

Are you sure about that? Because that’s exactly how I remember it working. I know for sure that I had stored a combat knife (2 volume, 0,5kg) on my ankle, but whenever I active my ankle holster, it says that I don’t have any weapon I could store in it…
edit: Nevermind, I just realized that ankle HOLSTERS and ankle SHEATS are two distinctive items, the latter of which needs piercing weapons skill 1 to become craftable…
For the firearms that are relatively ubiquitous and not the top-tier (battle rifle, scout rifle, rm99 autorevolver, etc.)
Rifles - SCAR-H and SCAR-L, Pneumatics for honorary mention. I like the look of the SCAR and the dispersion and reliability is a bit better than the AR-15 and other clones
Handgun - Beretta M9 and M1911, honorary mention for revolvers
SMGs- Don’t use them. I don’t like how any of them look in real life.
Shotgun- M1014
Someone has played a decent amount of L4D…
My favorite gun at the moment is the L39b - it fits in the fastdraw holster, uses exceedingly common 9mm ammo, has very low dispersion for a pistol, and a three-round burst. It’s also a very common find in lab barracks with no need to crack open the armory, if you haven’t found one before then off of a soldier zombie.
Handguns: glock 19, for the simple reason that it is most common (by far) AND uses the most common ammo, so I can actually use it sometimes without worrying too much about running out of ammo, AND I can actually expect to collect mags for it. Nothing else really matters in comparison
Shotgun: eh, whichever one I can find that has the largest capacity. Only use them in emergencies, anyway, usually at the beginning of the game.
SMGs: don’t really use them, as bursts eat ammo WAY too fast.
Rifle: A7, duh. Before that… um, I generally avoid them, as they are loud.
I tend pretty strongly towards melee builds, for ammo and sound reasons, so I may not be the best to ask, but the handgun question does seem to have an obvious answer to me.
Handguns: Nagant Revolver with a Suppressor(modded in)
Rifles: Remmington 700
SMG: Hah, I don’t even use them.
Shotguns: 2 Sawn Offs in quickdraws
My everyday weapon for being a sneeki bastard is the nagant revolver. However, I usually carry around a whole brace of pistols, in this configuration
2 Pepperbox Pistols
2 Sawn Off Shotguns, one with Explosives, one with Buckshot
1 Nagant Revolver
1 Taurus Raging Bull
1 Pfeifer-Zeliska revolver(also modded in), for killing jabberwocks, hulks, And dragons
The Ump45 is usable, at least in defence mode.
Point blank bursts are pretty good for getting you out of nasty spots, its much better than the other .45 guns. The only problem its that it occupies more volume.
Pistol: M9. I’m a sucker for an M9.
SMG: MP5. Ammo is easy to get, it’s a solid firearm stat-wise, it has a 3-round burst for moderately-bad situations, and its 8-round auto burst is both good enough for Brutes and not excessive enough to make me shy away from using it (like some of the other auto bursts that spray 10-20 rounds). Never find enough magazines though.
Rifles: If we’re going for automatics, I don’t have a real preference since ammo scarcity makes me hesitant to use them. Semi-auto I like the Cx4 Storm. Sure, it uses 9mm, but you don’t need much more for most things and it’s a really solid “I’m just clearing trash” firearm. Added bonus: It uses M9 Magazines.
Shotguns: Usually a Mossberg 500. It’s flat better than a Remington 870, and you find a ton of both. Sawn-Off Double Barrel is also good for being able to be used in a normal holster.
pistol: basicaly any pistol with decend damage or magazine size (i carry two pistol, one weak semi-auto with larger magazine and one revolver with more damage)
smg: i do not like them, except .22 smg but im not sure if we have one
rifles: accurate, powerfull, semi automatic rifles like mossin nagat are my favorites
shotgun: kel-tec ksg and rivtech short shotgun, shotguns are realy good weapons and kel-tec ksg can be loaded with two types of ammo and ammo is common enought, while rivtech short shotgun ammo is rarer it can easily work as my high damage pistol
My favorite go-to weapons? It all depends really.
Rifles: Pneumatic assault rifle, FN-SCAR H, Flintlock Rifle, Barrett M107A1, Remington 700 and Crossbows if they fit here.
Shotguns: Double Barrel Shotgun, Remington 870
SMG: The only SMG that I live is the MP5 EOD
Pistols: Flintlock pistol, .357 revolvers
Launchers: Flamethrowers and ‘Tank Killers’ like the M72 LAW and Grenade Launchers (However MP5 EOD does the grenade launcher role along with the smg.)
Piercing: Awl pike, Knife spear, Combat knife, Bestoc, Rapier
Cutting: Katana, Bass Cannon, Longsword, Wakizashi,
Bashing: Mjölnir, Barbed wire baseball bat, Mace, Sledge hammer, Morning Star
I’m more of a melee guy anyway. Less maintenance and blades don’t run out of ammo.
yea, melle weapons are awesome, but if we are not only near firearms reflex recurve bow and pneumatic bolt driver are nice too
I challenge you guys to kill zombies for a day with improvised weapons, like a wooden frame or a fire extinguisher.
When i first started playing years ago i always started with some type of martial arts and fought barehanded, i didn’t even know if i could wield knuckles to add damage without nullifying my martial arts and i was wary of melee weapons cos they were slower and i couldn’t remember if they had some type of technique.
I used to wreck hulks and throw them with barehanded krav maga or kick boxing, i think blaze instagibbed things with boxing and monoblade along with counter technique.
Things were funner back then, now an awl-pike or a diamond rapier/katana kind of kills the fun.
I think for my next game i’ll try playing with a sledgehammer/halligan bar and a repeater crossbow.
