Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!
Alright, its been a while.
So, how does stats through skills actually work?
Does starting skills matter at all?
Will it affect my displayed stats, or will it only affect things mechanically?
the stats trough skills works as this:based on the skills you gain during game(skills got from character creation not counted) you get stat points, like,if you started with 10 str. and got mechanics 1,you get a bonus point in strenght, and as you go evolving, your stats evolve, for example, tailoring evolves dex. first aid evolves intelligence.etc

How do I enable sound in the game? I put some .ogg files into the sound folder but how do I have them play within the game?

I wouldn’t know. I think the only sounds working right now might perhaps be the menu one. (when you press left and right in the tiles version (sound does not work in console) do you get a sound effect?)

Re: DNA Lore

Coolthulhu brought up that it is indeed inconsistent in the lore here : Lore inconsistency: mutations and DNA · Issue #17537 · CleverRaven/Cataclysm-DDA · GitHub

So any answers about lore here might have been changed in the future.

How do recharge car battery?

How can you not know this?

Run an engine with an alternator attached. Don’t have a damaged engine, battery (damaged batteries will drain their charge), or damaged alternator.

:frowning:

I suppose its my fault for being vague.

How would a naked newly spawned survivor recharge a dead car battery in the early game?

Without jumper cable and another car with running engine nearby - no way. Pretty much the same as IRL.

Get mechanics up to level 1. Get a wrench I think. Rip a battery out of a different car. Put it in the one with the empty battery.

Do martial arts do anything if you have them selected but are wielding an incompatible weapon, can I still block and stuff?
Is unarmed better/worse/comparable to armed?
What unarmed style should I chose?
Should I put aisles in my mobile base or just fill it with cargo spaces?
How do I craft a stabilized portal?

unarmed is viable in cdda. Dont know how much so,but i know its base damage is low.

however its easily the most technical form of combat and some of them sere so OP/broken they got nerfed

 1. Depends on the martial art
 2. Depends on skill/ what you want to accomplish. Without ANY martial, largely detrimental to not have SOME sort of useful weapon.
 3. I forget which ones are best for min/maxers but anything is better than nothing, for character gen not sure.
 4. Aisles to walk in are good to keep from wasting time climbing over storage space to get to other storage spaces, but that doesn’t mean they have to be empty, cargo carriers and floor containers let you have essentially isles without giving up ALL the space. (Cargo container is actually best aside from cargo dimension though harder to craft due to need of rope)
 5. Thats VERY late game, if you are asking these questions, don’t worry about it its not time yet, youll need to level up and be able to raid labs before portals are within reach.

Am I less than a real man if I play on the Single Pool stat setting? I find multi pool too restricting, and Stats Through Skills too ridiculous.

Too each their own. If playing X way makes the game more fun for you, go for it. If you get bored, or feel that that way is getting TOO easy, mix it up and step it up a level in some way. If to hard Scale back somehow. Nothing wrong with that.

I use a chatacter template that predates multipool setups.

of course my starts are brutal. I actially restart if I find it too easy, such as if I find an evac center too nearby

Out of curiosity, how brutal?

Re’f’ill the dead battery (if it’s in a car) by having batteries in your inventory.

on the newest experimentals you cant refill em anymore,i cried when i saw it,and cried even more when i could not heal myself with cotton balls

Because early game vehicles wasn’t hard enough. :frowning:

Cargo containers are actually incredibly easy to get if you have I think 1 or maybe 2 Mechanics and a wrench? Maybe a hacksaw? Trucks have six each making up their flatbed, and you’ll usually find a truck kicking around somewhere. They don’t tend to be all that rare. You can just use trunks (650 capacity) until you come across one instead of trying to craft cargo carriers.

Alternatively, you can gather ropes from removing seatbelts from useless vehicles (short rope from a normal seatbelt, long rope from a 5-point harness). Either way, you can get cargo carriers without too much work if you want them.

Something I’ve wondered for a very long time, but never bothered to ask. Does perception do anything past level 12? Every other stat seems to scale basically forever, but perception lets you see all traps at 10 and its aim bonus stops scaling at 12. Does it affect the maximum range of guns or something else that I just haven’t noticed yet?
