Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!

It was a makeshift welder… pretty sure they don’t go rotten =P

Been testing rock eradication methods. Apparently acid doesn’t melt them anymore. Your best bet is to make a long, one tile wide vehicle laden with scoops. Each scoop will hold 200 rocks, so try to work out how many you’ll need before hand. Drive it back and forth along said tunnel until all rubble is tidied away.

Hmmm…now that I think of it, I need to test how well explosives deal with the problem…

EDIT

Testing with C-4 and mininukes has had interesting results. While neither is capable of destroying rock, limestone or coal a mininuke set at the end of a narrow corridor blast a lovely looking natural room out of the rock. If Amiga faults were still worth farming I would make a castle around one using this…

Seems there have been some changes to brewing recently. It seems regular whiskey is no longer craftable, all you can make is whiskey wash. Is this intended or is the recipe simply missing? All other hard alcohol, like rum, vodka, moonshine, etc. can still be crafted…

Missing recipe, will PR a fix in a moment

You’ll still need to get lucky for that barrel of single malt though…

You have one but it’s being used as tool. E.G. Vehicle welding rig needs 3 makeshift welders, two as ingredients and one to do the welding.

Ah cool that makes sense. Thanks!

Edit-

How do I repair a engine so that is no longer faulty? I repaired it the normal way and it works but still says it is faulty.

maybe you can apply the belt drive or spark plug to the engine item?

maybe thats what engine lift cranes are for

Well can’t apply it while its on the ground or lift it by hand and apply it. I haven’t been able to build a crane yet… when I can I’ll try that. Seems like the only reasonable thing. Mean while Ill just replace it. Stoopid faulty belt. At least it ran until I found a decent enough engine to replace it.

On a side note, I really haven’t seen up use of jacks despite the updates to them… I guess I was lucky to find a mostly intact Humvee. Its all pimped out now but I haven’t expanded it into a DeathRV like I usually do, but as of yet the jack update hasn’t prolonged my deathmobile building…

where i can find best lifting equipment? i have bottle jack but i think that some day i will have too heavy car for it

As far as I know, you can only fully repair engines from the inventory view → meaning you have to uninstall them first. At least, there’s a new 'm’end hotkey when you inspect an item in your inventory.

A jack is all you need; I do not think there is a weight check for using jacks, only when you don’t have one.

Gotta make them apparently. Gotta get the advanced engineering book and like level 5 skill

The newest experimentals have different kinds of jacks, with (apparently) different weight capabilities. Haven’t tried it myself yet, but the concept is a good one (need the right equipment to lit engines into place, for instance).

Finding new stuff like that tends to be problematic for a little while - it should make its way into standard play (say, finding them in garages, for instance) soon-ish, I would expect.

I would make sense if ALL garages had something to do the job in them, even if that something was entirely non-portable.

How viable does everyone find using cars that require a large engine when hordes are enabled? I found a pretty intact swat van that has a V6 diesel engine, but I am afraid hordes will never stop following me

Why did I learn my modded-in gunmod at level zero?

I thought I had it set to learn at level 4???

Pedit: Or 4 mechanics. Jaaaa

I just got to the end of my first year, and I’m wondering what is the best load out for a melee focused character + a bow as a backup? I’m currently planning to do all winter survivor gear, but is this the best? what is the best end game armor? should I stop at survivor winter armor or go for the heavy variant?

Survivor gear is good. I blacklist it so I can compare it to other stuff though.

You want to balance 5 things.

-storage
-encumbrance
-enviormental protection
-physical protection
-warmth

Encumbrance is flexible, and so is warmth. You can funtion at high enough skill levels with those unbalanced a little.

Physical protection is going to determine how much combat you can take if you arent a dodgey little bee. Which the probelm with doding is you cant dodge a horde. You will eventually be hit.

Enviornmental protection is used against acid zombies, fire, special triffid attacks, etc. You should know it when you see it. Lightning is a good example. A lot of bionics exist to mitigate these.

And storage is nice to have, but nothing is stopping you fron not having this. I prefer to go into heavy battle with no storage because most of the best nonsurvivor stuff has no storage, or minor storage. More speace for me to strap grenade launchers to my body.
Of course you need ammo and drugs too.

I generally prefer to casually loot in leather armor and with a duffel bag I carry into battle. I put it on to loot after the fiht is over. I even occassionally drop it off to one side before a fight, so I can fight unencumbered.

I can easily melee pretty well at 30+ torso and arm encumbrance. Even with only a machete. I try to stay in the 20+ range but it is doable at 30+. 40+ encumbrance is where I really start to see a down turn in effectiveness.

With my load outs I always try to fill all my slots. My priority is high protection with as reasonably low encumbrance as can be had. everything else is auxiliary. Though if you have issues with spitters/acid zombies then I would try and work in good environmental protection as a third priority.

A really, really good choice for armor is the nomad gear reinforced with kevlar. You get some solid protection, great carrying capacity and lowish encumbrance out of the deal. In the same vein it’s often better to lace up lower tier boots or hand wear and likewise modify them.
