Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!

I’ve been playing CATA for … what, two years now? I’ve always used the Dino mod in every single game, but have never seen a dinosaur. Zombies are EVERYWHERE - where is my Dinosaur Apocalypse? Is this because I don’t go wandering around in swamps?

They are rare spawns and only reliably spawn in their field camp. iirc.

To add them everywhere you’d probably start them off rare and increase their frequency over time, like they do with swamp cirtters or Zanimals

I only encounter dinos in swamps. Except the swarms of compsognathus you sometimes find in (IIRC) wildlife field offices.

Anyone have any ideas on how to get soundpacks working? I have placed the Chesthole soundpack folder into data/sound and the soundpack.txt is included. Here are the contents of that file;

#Chesthole soundpack
#Name of the soundpack
NAME: ChestHole
#Viewing name of the soundpack
VIEW: ChestHole

There is however NO option to enable sounds from the in-game menus. I’d like to try adding part to the config file (options.json?) manually, could someone please post this? Or offer any other advice?

I am using Ubuntu and I compiled the tiles (graphical) version using 'make TILES=1 RELEASE=1 LUA=1’
Please help :frowning:

Yes - jackhammer work on log walls, concrete walls, stone walls, and metal walls (I haven’t tried on normal walls). There are multiple military-grade turrets inside, though.
I thought so. Are they about as tough as what I found in the science lab?

Does the Deft trait help at all when dealing with torso encumbrance? So say if I had 3 encumbrance and I get the prompt that my equipment has thrown me off balance, does Deft kick in and reduce the failed attack time?

They make the ones in labs look like water guns. Seriously, I think they’ve been nerfed a bit, but until that happened, I literally had not survived one round of fire from one, EVER, even with full survivor gear, an MBR, AND a kevlar vest. After the nerf, I have survived a round of fire, starting at full health, while very well armored, and having like / health left on my torso. They are NASTY.

I might be wrong but I think it’s like a modifier for attacking, like a couple extra points in dexterity.
It effects attacking such in a way it’d reduce the change on swinging wildly and you’d start feinting instead.

Kinda similar to fast reader perk, you read faster but more INT has the same effect.

For torso encumbrance, you’d want it to at least be lower than 40, best case it’d be below or at around 20, but for a decent mid ground 30-39 is fine.

…I never got hit by either without getting instakilled by a long burst.

Also, question: can shots fired by turrets on a car bypass the boards and other “solid” objects on it?

You need SOUND=1 in your make to get sound.

those turrets are powerfull, i barely survived one shoot at torso when i was wearing dragon skin vest

i do not think so, even antimaterial turret cant hit me in a car

Ok, i made a custom scenario + profession. A prisoner starting on a prison. I coded all the things properly and it worked perfectly, the thing is, I had never been in a prison before. Hulks every where and I have no armor and only a glass shank. On a scale from mundane zed to Marloss Man Reborn, how screwed am I?

How were you planning on getting out of prison to begin with? Or how you stay warm?

Prisons are hard places

hulk will smash him throught a wall and he will find something to wear at nearby town

Yes, but they’ll only fire if they can see their target. So they’ll go right over quarterpanels but they won’t fire at all through boards.

So basicly Im screwed ^^’

Ahh, thank you!

EDIT - Nvm, it’s been fixed but one has to start a new game if afflicted by this and caring about it.

Anyone know whats up with the winch doors at firestations? I recently started playing again, and all the doors to the fire station will not open when you trying turning the winch
.
That is apparently a fairly recent bug in the experimental version. Obvious bugs like that are usually fixed pretty quickly.
Is this really a bug or a new behavior? I hope it’s a bug - would be nice to know if there’s some other magic way to get in them now besides blowing up/melting the door - that leaves the door intact - a “figure it out” would be fine.

Doubt it matters but the only thing different in this run for me is using the new clip removing mod (and thanks for that, btw).

I haven’t updated in months but I’m reasonably confident you could still do that.

yes, this still works
but where is fun?
