When you fire there’s usually a little menu "fire “steady aim and fire” “aim and fire” “aim carefully and fire” and “aim precisely and fire” or summat.

Alright, you press f right, and you snap to a target, and when you press . the steadiness and confidence bars will go up.
That represents how confident you are in taking the shot and how steady you are. The steadier you are the better chance you have of hitting the target.
Obviously, your confidence you go up as you or the target get closer and higher ranks of gun skills or archery will allow you to be more confident in your shots and steady yourself better.
a is fire, c is carefully aim and fire, and p is precisely aim and fire. They do the same thing as pressing . a lot of times.
hunh, I thought those were conmfidence levels for the monsters. Like their morale and aggression level
No, you’ve been most likely just pressing f and enter right? Your ranged skills haven’t gone up much I bet.
How do you get through reinforced glass walls reliably?
Well in the past you could of jackhammered them, but now you can’t, so explosives?
High strength and a powerful bashing weapon. If you have the CBM, the sonic resonator should be able to break the wall open with one or two uses.
Also, careful positioning, a sufficiently heavy metal object, and the electromagnetic unit can destroy concrete and reinforced glass.
Question: boats. I’ve never mess with them before, but I have a new lab escapee who needs some books, and there’s a mansion across a small river… I tried making a boat with a wooden frame, a boat board, and an oar, but it says it’s “too leaky”. I added another frame and boat board, same thing.
Any tips on using boats?
Anybody? No advice or community knowledge?

For some reason, a boat needs at least 3 boat boards to function, unlike normal vehicles with a minimum of 2 wheels.

Ah, ok - thanks!
Does anyone know how to fix this?
It’s making it real difficult for me to put my old saves into new versions, and even then actually find ‘cataclysm.exe’ in all the clutter.
EDIT: It’s also on previous versions, which wasn’t cluttered like this before. Using Windows 8 with classic shell if that matters.
Help me understand something.
Short version:
I started out with lab challenge, as a Broken Cyborg. Some of the notable qualities I had were Robust Genetics, Fragile and Glass Jaw, and Strength 14. After consuming a heap of mutagens and serums, and afterwards taking a similar heap of purifiers, my traits were mostly back to normal… Except now I have 8 points less base Strength and nearly triple the base hit points, 25hp -> 70hp.
Long version:
I started out as a Broken Cyborg and with Fragile (-75% HP) but some time afterwards I realized how deadly it can be to fail at removing broken CBMs. I learned that the damage that the failure inflicts is not proportional to HP, which means anyone who is not Tough, and doesn’t have high First Aid, Electronics and Intelligence is likely to outright die instantly. So, after dying instantly I got curious about the removal mechanics of broken CBMs and started doing some testing. Since I needed more HP, I decided to consume a ton of Cattle mutagens and serums. I couldn’t particularly remember if they were the best for this purpose but after consuming about 20 mutagens and serums, and not receiving any HP improving mutations, I got suspicious and switched to Ursine category. At that point I had already crossed the threshold as Bovine. So here come the Ursine mutagens and after consuming 5-12 of them, I soon get either Solidly Built or TAAANK mutation, outright cancelling the Fragile and Glass Jaw I had. Finally, wow! I heal up to full HP, wait out all the pain, and start removing the broken CBMs, until a failed removal takes half of my HP. I didn’t feel like continuing, so then I conjure myself 20 purifier serums. I consume most of them, and I’m in a ton of pain (literally close to 1000), and I watch the mutations disappear until I’m left with the ones I started with, except the Fragile and Glass Jaw, which seemed to have permanently disappeared. Also I had the Bovine tag as well. But now I have only 6 base strength (started out as 14) and 70 base HP (started out as 25). I kept injecting purifier serums but they didn’t seem to do anything anymore.
So, like, what’s going on here? Bug, or perfectly functioning design? Am I also missing something here? I mean, it certainly seems buggy that I don’t get the original traits back and that my STR is 8 points less, but my understanding of mutations and their cancellations is also lacking.
Is there a way to move two existing vehicles as one, an alternative to the non-existant (and very much needed) vehicle towing?
I don’t think I can connect between them because they don’t appear on the same vehicle panel (upon [e]xamination), and I don’t feel like moving them one by one.
well ramming one into another will move it
no towing yet. gotta take it apart piecemeal

Some version of that is very high on the community want list, but the actual coding for it is apparently quite complex. (For towing, that’s quite understandable… I think many people would settle for some kind of “merge two existing vehicles” option, but that’s not my call.)
How many alternators can you add to an engine? I just added a truck alternator and a 7.5kW generator to a V8 diesel engine.
I use this to power my mini fridge, overhead light and a kitchen unit. I’m thinking that maybe I’m not taking all the juice I can get from this engine and maybe I should look for a smaller one.

Taken straight from the wiki:
AlternatorsAlternators have to be mounted on a gas, diesel or muscle engine. They put a light load on the engine and in exchange produce energy when said engine is running. A truck alternator is comparable in energy output to 20 solar panels in bright sun, car to 13 and motorcycle to 7. More than one alternator type can be installed on an engine, but their efficiency is determined by their size, so installing smaller alternators will reduce the fuel efficiency.
Alternators only work when the engine they are attached to is active and fueled. When more than one engine is running, alternators are effectively shared between them.
Attaching anything but a truck alternator to a dedicated generator is certainly a waste. Really big engines (>10 liters) are naturally wasteful due to 1% lower cap on engine load. A 14-liter engine will not lose any fuel efficiency if it has both a truck alternator and motorbike alternator, but will produce some extra power.
Do the game now count sheathed knives for butchering/cutting up items?
I think so. Had a hunting knife sheathed on a boot. Switched boots, forgot the knife, and tried butchering something and the meat was destroyed due to clumsy butchering as I lacked the knife.
