Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!

keep making df comparisons and Ill start asking why you cant pick up free booze from the ground and throw it as a weapon.

i thought ants could do that ‘see you in a radius without light’ thing that antenae mutation granted. Is this not true, because I sat in a field surround by ants because I thought it was safe but a small horde buddied right up to the car while I was sleeping.

I’d love to see some DF-esque animals in the game. I want to kill a Jabberwocky throwing Fluffy Wamblers!

Cataclysm needs kobolds anyway. o3o

We need elves so we can eat them for their flesh o3o

Also, I found a Hazmat suit, is it perfect at stopping radiation or does it still leak through even if it’s reinforced? Because I want to go to a sarcophagus to loot some drums without coming home with three penises.

We have elves. Presumably eventually there will be actually properly mutated npcs to play with. They might even get factions. Looking forward to krecks actting like little thieves and we don’t really have a proper goblin stand-in but dont need one. We can leave out the orcs too and let them be repped by factions of douches or survivalists.

We do need dwarves/BoS/some high quality faction that is xenophobic.

pedit: Giant robots stand in for many megabeast pretty well, and we could add more underground critters, but honestly this isn’t minecraft or df. most critters and factions need to fit into a mad maxian world or at least have a higher purpose than to piss off the player.

So, what is the purpose of the shoggoth and the other, rarer planer monsters? Most of them leave no loot of any kind and appear to exist only to “piss off the player”.

I’ve been told that you can use them for remote control (with a controller, of course), but I’ve never tried it.

Question: boats. I’ve never mess with them before, but I have a new lab escapee who needs some books, and there’s a mansion across a small river… I tried making a boat with a wooden frame, a boat board, and an oar, but it says it’s “too leaky”. I added another frame and boat board, same thing.

Any tips on using boats?

Theyre there to complete the illusion of the nether-plane’s existence.

As high-end cthulu monsters they also have a certain ‘sentimental value’ as a reference and boss.

There’s whole lists of fantasy monsters I dont think would be supported, not to mention that DF has hundreds of critters, not to mention all the damn animal-men and giant versions.

pedit: im not saying there cant be mods, but as a main addition to the game they cant even mechanically mesh with the hallucinations because theyre out of place.

Yes, a hazmat will protect you completely from radiation, though I suppose it wouldn’t if it were damaged.

Not sure if this is a bug or what. But my hallucinated monsters are having physical effects on my world. They not only mimic noise and destruction, they in a few cases actually seem to slow/stop my movement and one hallucinated zombnie destroyed my windshield.

A brain blob stopped me from turning at low speed in the dark and a zombie smashed through my windshield so I could make him dissappear when I hit him.

They interact oddly with the world, sometimes. I had my mother set off a few land mines right next to my general, uh, everything, last character. (She didn’t make it).

what book teaches the fencing style? I tried looking around the debug spawner so i know what i am looking for but searching sword, blade, and fencing has not yielded any results.

Also the wiki does not list the estoc as one of the weapons compatible with fencing which is insane, is that simply because of an outdated page?

The Modern Swordsman.

And it’s because the estoc is…one, mod-only, and two I’ve yet to assign the estoc to fencing. Not until we have the ability to add to a martial art’s weapon list, instead of a mod overwriting entries entirely.

… Why would an estoc be fencing compatible? It looks like just an ordinary arming sword. Speaking of which, why is Fencing, whose description specifically mentions it’s modern fencing, apply to such heavy medieval weapons? Rapier, sure, but you do not fence in the same or anywhere close to the way that you’d fight with a broadsword.

I would consider the estoc like a two-handed rapier, so the technique surely would differ, yeah.

It’s only really the main (and only) example of a medieval-mod weapon that MIGHT fit as a fencing weapon.

I assumed that since the estoc is narrower and lighter than an arming sword you could apply the fencing style. Also if you do add it in be sure to add a diamond version as well

Man, I want eastern styles to use with my eastern swords…

Hmm. if I had a good style to go with the jian and qiang… o3o

Well, there is the Book Of Five Rings thingamajig, Niten Ichi-Ryu or something like that. But it seems you can’t select it on startup for some reason.

So I took a break from C:DDA for a while, and a lots changed in the newest experimental since I last played. I recently figured out that you can ‘run’ now, and guns have some sort of aiming system I don’t quite understand that effects accuracy?

If someone could give me a quick rundown of new mechanics that have been added in the past six months or so I’d really appreciate it.

Also, why has no one created a creature that is a mix of the mi-go and the moose yet? The Mioogs! Deadliest creature to n00bs ever conceived.

yea, what is that bit about aiming? can I manually aim? have I been firing from the hip this whole time?
