Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!

15x15 is a small area. Drive around.

Schools, certain house basements, less commonly cooresponding stores, and zombies drop books.

Schools are definitely up there with libraries on the “go get books” list. Only really Fun if your melee skill is too low, and/or you lack the Psychopath trait. :V

brin a flamethrower or several rags and light them up in a line outside. kite them out and practice hitting them.

most kiddie zoms can take 3 to 4 lowlevel melee strikes in a small fire before the fire kills them, and their clothing can be used to start new fires :o

kite them out if wanderers let permit.

pedit: and junkfood will ease the sads. toastems are OP. heck, mp3 players grant like +50 moral.

 1. If a lawnmower engine doesn’t count as a “small 1 cylinder engine”, then what does?

 2. Are there any good places to loot a jackhammer? I can’t find any in the hardware stores.

Shotgun to the face after tazering it. It will take several rounds. I’m guessing crafting that 6 shot revolving shotgun gatling gun is probably super effective given that it would put 6 rounds into the hulk in one go.

Stunning it is definately good. Try a bullwhip.

Ive never tried to bullwhip a hulk specificially, but just about everything else gets stunned.

Krav Maga is the answer. :V

Basically anything that can reliably kill zombies, as long as you tazer it first. Multiple tazer hits will stack the stun time too - note that it won’t say that the hulk is stunned after it gets tazered, but it’s not gonna move no matter what. Tazers never miss, so the main issue is making sure that you get to use it against it before you get hit.

Also, tazers work on tank drones as well.

Problem with that solution being that you just rang the dinnerbell for every zombie on the map.
Noise is very, very bad, and shotguns are very, very, loud.
Saw a great way of putting it the other day (might even have been in this thread):

"Using a shotgun is like sharing food. If you do it, you'd better have enough for everybody."

Shotguns have their place, but that place is either underground or far, far away from your base and within sprinting distance of a fast vehicle.

As I’ve phrased it before…shotguns are great, assuming you brought enough to clear everything out.

Forgot I wanted to answer this guy:

 1. anything with “1 cylinder engine” in the name. You can find them now and then on or near roads, and I think scooters have them too.

 2. Hardware stores have them sometimes. I usually make my own because they’re hard to find as a drop. Electric ones are a good option because you can make them rechargeable or run them off of an advanced UPS with the right mods.

Oh boy. I’m a fucking idiot.
1. I assumed the RM216 I was carrying is an automatic shotgun, while it actually was a submachine gun. This explains the low damage it was dealing. Or how my shotguns skill is still at 0.

 1. Not knowing this is a submachine gun, I waited till the Hulk was right next to me so I could hit it square in the face with my “shotgun”. Normally you’d start firing from 5-10 tiles away with anything else, but I haven’t.

 2. After realizing what I used was, in fact, NOT a shotgun, I forgot to use burst-fire mode - meaning that whenever I shot the Hulk it was a single-shot hit (except when the Trigger Happy trait took effect), and yet I still somehow damaged it HEAVILY. I bet I could’ve used burst-fire mode to finisheit off without dying.
This forces me to ask a new question:
What is a (common) strong rifle/SMG that would deal with almost anything you’d throw at it right away?
I have a decent amount of ranged weapons and the ability to craft ammo for them, but don’t know which one to choose. I’ve crafted about 200 .233 rounds to start off, just because I have lots of weapons that use them.

Rifles skill is 1, SMG skill is 2. Here’s what I’ve got so far:

FN SCAR-H
M4A1
AR-15
SKS
FN P90
American-180
L523-MBR
L523-CAR
Weatherby Mark V
H&K UMP45
H&K G36

Whatever you have the most ammunition for. Try to use common/weaker rounds for routine defense.

I like to carry a weaker rifle and a powerful hand cannon around. And a melee weapon and throwable explosive.

That said, Im a fan of the weatherby off that list.

Some questions about NPCs:

 1. Do they need to eat? I found one dead on the couch in my safehouse, assumed it had been bitten so I threw the corpse outside in a bush so I could practice melee on it later. But it never transformed. I have mine set on “Don’t pick up items” so maybe it starved?

 2. Do they actually get infected? And if so, if I give them disinfectant or other anti-infection medical supplies will they treat it themselves?

 3. Do they get cold?

 4. Is there a way to get them to attack other NPCs that have become hostile to me?

On rifles, I generally prefer ones without burst fire… though that’s basically because I often pick trigger happy. Either way, go with the rifle you have the most ammo of. Check the info on the ammunition to see which ammo has the highest attack power, if you want to go with damage - though perhaps you should save that ammo for later until you’ve got more skill levels with rifles.

Also, if you have the means to craft it, make a pneumatic assault rifle. Ammo for it is easy to craft (pebbles can be made everywhere, and bearings are better when you have the tools to craft it). Since ammo can be plentiful, your rifles skill can go up very quickly.

Also, would I get sick from drinking non-purified rain water I collected from funnels?

I think my night vision mutation broke when it became high night vision. I now see like I don’t haven night vision even after debugging high night vision to night vision, and getting rid of it and re-adding it… or, is this something in the game that I just don’t know about? The mutation to high night vision occurred after being shot by a yugg.

I believe it is the item in the game named “water” that gives you a chance to get sick from drinking it, so yes.

Is there a quick way to pulp a lot of zombie corpses? It’s really tiring to manually search the corpses, pulp them, remember which ones you pulped and everything. Doing it at night is even worse, since you need to stumble around looking for any corpses.

Gets particularily hard during late game when there’s literally a dozen zombies per map square…

Is there any way to somehow disable zombie resurrection? Something that can be activated while a game is still going (got my first survivor to winter, don’t want to lose him).

The prevent zombie revivication mod is what you’re looking for… as for adding the mod into an active game… I’ll test it out for you and report back.
