Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!
Im sure I read in the vehicle mod there is wires of some kind.

I have never seen them nor used them but I am sure I read they existed on the forum thread.
Yeah, it is possible within the mod, but as far as I’m aware I’m playing a vanilla experimental CDDA version without any mods running.
In-case you’re using the mod and want to use wires, here’s the part about it from the original mod thread:

Thanks I thought I read that some where LOL.

I might have a look and see how its done

In the ranch mission about motors, what two motors does the foremen specifically want?

Electric motors, I think. Just the normal sized ones, I recall.

Ah,ok then, thanks. New quest has begun.
I think you’re talking about the fridge specifically here, whereas I’m talking about a group of furniture/devices acting as a “vehicle” on their own, for example a welding rig and a mini-fridge mounted on a pair of light frames. Does the same removable-battery system work here too? If so, do I need one battery for each device? I was sure you could power such group with one battery alone.

Also, for “furniture” which have removable batteries like a fridge - does the process of installing/removing batteries require a welder or an acetylene torch? Like I already said, I can’t really afford to waste any more batteries on these actions. How long does a full battery last you before you have to switch it again?
You don’t need any tools to pull or install a storage battery. One battery should be able to power everything that is part of the same vehicle, though I can’t guarantee for how long. I usually get about a week of fridge operation off of a full one, but I’m not running a welder on the same rig.

I was just using the fridge as an example because it’s the one I have to replace the battery for most often.

How long does the average storage battery last when you’re powering a fridge+floodlight? Is it Apple ‘You’re getting 20 minutes for a fancy paperweight’ charge, or Nokia 3310 ‘It’ll outlive the cockroaches’ charge?

I want to start messing around with frames and such, and build myself a nice little solar powered shack with forges and the like, but I don’t feel like switching out batteries all the time to make it viable…

I’ve read varying reports that go from 7 days to 15 days, but those are long enough time to charge up an empty battery from sunlight. My friend had some food cart thing going, where he made a bunch of casters and some wood frames, installing a bunch of alternators and batteries, with a fridge on one side with a gas tank, water faucet and a water tank, and then a trunk with some cooking tools and garbage all on a 3x1 vehicle that he dragged around the place. Don’t know exactly how he made it, and it was a couple months ago so it might not be possible anymore.

How in the hell are you supposed to survive with wander spawns on? I decided it was time to get gud and made a new world with wander spawns on and spawn rate set down to 0.8 so i could ease in to it. However if you so much as fart you get a fucking mob of 100+ zombies crawling up your ass more or less immediately. Do you just have to constantly keep running? It seems no matter where i go some dumbass wanders into a minefield or shoots at a zombie once and i have to either fight a massive army or completely relocate. pls send halp.

It gets slightly better if you keep at it.
Usually i relocate 3+ times until i can go mobile and not have to worry too much. Night raids and careful looting are mandantory. Hostile flamethrower or shotgun carrying NPC’s are bad. Actually these types are pretty bad even if they are friendly…

I think i actually might have a handle on it now. I was lucky enough to find a running cube van early on, and after running from a few massive hordes my SWAT officer is doing alright. I have a nice motel with a pool in the middle of nowhere that is my fallback base, and i am starting to loot a nearby town for supplies to soup up my vehicle. SWAT armor is really nice for low level zombie clearing

You use jars to seal fish, meat, soups, vegetables and some other foods that would probably rot otherwise. If it doesn’t have the blue/yellow text fresh/spoiling food has then I assume it won’t spoil.

Noob question: how do you go about wiring/running power inside a building from a generator outside?

I set up a generator and want it to power various devices inside my base, but don’t know how to wire them without using frames/breaking the walls for my base. I tried using regular wires which didn’t work, and I heard that jumper cables do the job but are fairly limited in range. Got a bunch of copper tubing I ought to try out but I’m wondering if there’s a better way to do this.

I’m trying to build something like this:
Ok I figured out pictures! The above is the generator and below is how it fits in the base:

Anybody knows what these full-stops represent?
Looks to me like wires. Maybe from the vehicle additions mod? They’re just little bitty frames made with a single wire for the sole purpose of connecting stationary vehicle parts, I doubt they can take any punishment whatsoever.

Did something happened with dynamic NPC spawn in the latest versions? When I started my world they were spawning okay but stopped approximately after I started main quest line. Maybe there is too many static NPCs on the map?

Also in the debug menu in check game state section it’s written “NPCs are NOT going to spawn”. Help ))

Everybody keeps saying flamethrower npcs are bad yet one of them saved my life while I was fighting a horde. I still see the fucker wandering the map…

I’d just use something like extra light frames or handles. Easy enough to get a ton of and basically the same function as the wires, only with a little more labor/metal involved.

Simple frames are simple yet effective too.

but heavy and they don’t play nice with non-megatruck driving survivors.

True, but it works well for basic stuff.

Also? I’m tempted to make a literal fortress as a vehicle by constructing a stationary assembly of frames, boards, etc. How insane would this be relative to constructing a fort of a similar size?

In many ways, it would be easier, certainly easier to mod as needed.

Also, it would almost certainly be more durable, especially if you add any kind of armor.

And it would be easy to build in turrets wherever needed, all with a single power source.

I’ve used existing structures as bases for convenience, but if I was making a base, that’s what I would do, almost exclusively.

True. We need stone quarterpanels and boards though. o3o
