Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!

It’s dry and bad for morale, though the REAL disadvantage is it takes forever to make. o3o

Augh. Why do I keep having trouble finding that part of the site that lists the latest changes of each build? >.<

You mean the pulse? You can literally google cataclysm dda pulse and it comes up.

Ah, that was what I was missing. >.<

Still having issues with car batteries. I’m making sure to have all the lights off, including domes and the stereo, and I always hit “stop driving” when I exit the car. Even with a slightly-damaged (light green) battery it’s still losing charge. I am completely stumped.

The fact that it is damaged at all makes it so you will lose power over time. Fix it asap!

Alternatively (huehuehue), check the alternator. It could also be inadequate recharge rate when the engine is running.

Your PUNishment for that joke is one cookie.

I’m wondering on how to find cvd machines.
Trying to reinforce my weapons with diamonds, but out of the years I’ve been playing, I’ve never encountered a single cvd machine.

I’ve heard that they’re in labs, but either I don’t seem to be looking in the right areas, or they’re super rare.

Any help?

Is there a way to clear blockage on stairs? Or do you just have to jackhammer your way through?

I’ve found them to be in something like 10-20% of labs - rare, but not shockingly so.

Also, don’t forget that they are a lab finale (only one spawns in each lab). So you have to go all the way to the bottom of any given lab and look for the unique room with several security bots (you’ll hear gunfire before you see it usually as the bots attack zombies that spawned with them). It’s represented as a unique teal ‘L’ on the map aswell.

When I enable static NPCs, how much does this change the game? Do I have to worry about my shelter partner dying because I only brought food for one? What types of places do NPCs generate? Should I enable the random NPCs too? I’d like as much information about them I can get, I feel like NPCs might be what I need to get more direction out of this game.

Your starter NPC might steal loot off the floor unless you designate the areas as “no NPC pickup” via the zone option, uppercase “Y” by default. Other than that, they need sleep but this is only a concern if you’ve recruited them as companions.

Random NPCs are way more buggy and prone to being batshit insane than static NPCs.

As for the static NPCs…check the console in an evac center for directions to a refugee center, that has a lot of them and some quests. A ranch can later be inhabited with more as well.

Other than that, a certain spoiler under a City of the Dead, bandit cabins, and bandit camps, there aren’t any other normal locations for static NPCs.

Two very important questions.

  1. Clearing a fungal patch near my local refugee center. Burning the evil, annoying thing as best I can but it keeps raining. Wearing a gas mask and yet it still says I begin to cough. Soon after, I got this weird message saying I was throwing up grey goop and my pain started to go up. Will this go away, can I cure it or should I suicide and start another world/character?
  2. If I do manage to survive and I lolnope out of there, can another refugee center spawn?

You need high enviromental protection on your entire body to not get infected by the fungus, the tiny spores can dig through the skin and enter the bloodstream of your survivor very easily. The only way to cure a fungal infection is with antifungal pills, fungicide or the all powerful royal jelly.

However, while it can fuck you up royally, it isn’t fatal. Still, you’re gonna want to cure it pronto.

As for purging the fungus…good luck. Sprayable fungicide might be worth a try.

Really glad it isn’t fatal. Other than the fungal shit, this is character is having a pretty good run. I have a bag of fungicide, should I eat it?
Also, what about the refugee center? The fungal bloom is getting out of hand but I’ve already completed the first two missions for them. Really leaning towards just ducking out and leaving the poor bastards to there fate.

Another will spawn when you move far enough and I mean far but all missions will be reset with them.

It won’t kill you directly, but you won’t last long with it… as for the fungicide, yes, you should use it before you suffer… irreparable (not really) damage.
