Huh. Now that’s weird. You sure you turned horde mode off versus dynamic spawns? Unless resetting the world didn’t update the worldgen parameters.
Seems like it didn’t. I’ve now deleted the world and made a new one. Let’s see what that does.
But yes I definitely turned off Wander spawns, and I was on Static otherwise.
Hnng. Modding question, what is the ID for the use_action assigned to guns, that gives items of that type the “remove gun mods” menu for its use_action? I can’t seem to find it.
OK I might just be being stupid here, but why can’t I seem to warm myself up with a fire? (It’s outside.)
Even with two tiles on fire it’s not doing anything as far as I can tell. This is a problem because I can’t craft gloves yet other than sock mitts and I’m going to get frostbite.
This would be very annoying considering I lucked out with a suit of armour, a scabbard, broadsword and a pike.
Update: OK, problem solved. It seems I just need LOTS OF FIRES. All around me. Which is odd. I’ve never seen this mentioned.
Does anyone know where to find military id cards? I’m fairly new at the game, and I am trying to seek out a bunker for loot. I’ve found one on a dead team of soldiers, but no more so far. Any help?
Far as I can tell, those dead teams of soldiers are the primary source of them. They and other “map specials” are fairly random in placement, so mostly just explore and pay attention to any instances of zombie soldiers isolated from other undead.
Should also possibly see them at helicopter crash sites, another randomly spawned map special. Look for large deposits of metal rubble with scattered military equipment.
Thanks a bunch.
I believe you can also find them in military outposts, though those are defended by milspec turrets, so they’re not easy nuts to crack. But yeah, they’re much scarcer than science ID cards.
Ah right, military outposts. Not to be confused with military bunkers, which are what you’ll be spending those cards on.
Thanks again to both of you. Hopefully, while searching for outposts, I won’t be mauled by wolves or bears.
Sorry if the question is dumb, but is there anyway to preserve food? I’m trying to keep my chunks of meat fresh so I can make meat fried rice later.
If I recall, earliest you can access a non-perishable cooking recipe for chunks of meat is level 2, dyhdrated meat. Thus needs an electric food dehydrator or a charcoal smoker. At level 3 you can make meat jerky (a staple food of the CDDA survivor) or smoked meat. Jerky needs salt and a fire (or one of several other cooking devices), while smoked meat specifically requires a charcoal smoker and wooden skewers. Then atr level 4 you can make aspic, requiring bones and water plus the usual cooking fire/hotplate/etc.
Ok. Thanks.
Pemmican is the ultimate from what I remember. What was it? Tallow and fruit?
Lasts forever and actually is good as food unlike aspic.
Anyway, I could do with some general advice. I did the “sheltered survivor” start and I have a shelter in the forest with food in it but not a lot else. (Though there are crates in there I’m going to make a crowbar to look inside of.)
There are two mansions nearby and a crapload of books. The trouble is, it’s winter and it’s bloody cold. I’m currently trying to make warm enough clothes to avoid frostbite. Luckily the first mansion has a gun room with some firepower in it.
But basically I’m not sure what my priorities should be. Ideally I need to make proper winter gear I suppose…
I’d like to just make a fireplace and sit by it reading the survival and crafting books, but I can’t find any rocks to make the fireplace with! Maybe this is because it’s winter and they’re under snow? Or because I’m in the forest? I don’t know.
And for some alternative non-perishable recipes…at level 0 there aren’t many options besides popping popcorn, protein drinks and protein shakes. Fruit leather is a good level 1 option, if you have some fresh fruit and sugar/honey/syrup. You could use irradiated fruit too, but there’s less point to that. Pine nuts are an option at 1 cooking and 2 survival, same with roasted hickory nuts.
Apart from military bases and random squads of soldiers, I have always found one single military ID card in the large waste deposits (2x2 pink X on the map). It happened tree times so maybe I was lucky but you can try your luck !
If I die, and keep the world, can I go back and find my character and get their stuff, or at least give them a decent burial?
yes you can also get some cbms that you had outa them
I need to try that sometime, bury a corpse. Thing is, unless you can make corpse-filled pits… XP
Viking-style funeral pyres, anyone?
