Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!
Seems like you’ll have to wait a while, more mutations develop over time.

Don’t forget, you can harvest Mycus fruits from marloss bushes.
Oh, nice. I wish I hadn’t picked every single marloss bush that spawned after eating a fruit.

If I make a bunch of lightstrips will it make enough light to read properly by?

It should let you read if you have it in your inventory.

I can but only very slowly (‘dark’ instead of ‘very dark’). I’m wondering if I can stack the illumination to read at full speed.

lightstrip is OK for a start, but if you’re going to be reading more than a bit, make an electric lantern (electronics 3). You’ll need a recipe from
What’s a Transistor? (level 3)
Ham Radio Illustrated (level 4)
Electronic Circuit Theory (level 2)

but it will get you up to “brightly”. Or a gasoline lantern, but that’s fab 5, or an oil lamp (fabrication 3). They all use reasonably common parts, the oil lamp is especially nice because you can make oil from tainted fat.

Though nothing beats an atomic lamp.

atomic tazer?

You can’t read with an atomic taser. ;A;

Just run around the subway for a while, you’ll find tons of gas and electric lamps, maybe even an atomic light if you’re lucky. Not much bad down there either.

(playing stable .c)

I’m building/customizing a vehicle (formerly military apc tweaked and refitted with facilities and now more RV-like). I’ve spent hours dinking with it - the vehicle stuff in this game is amazing, as is the rest of the game.

Whenever I sleep in the vehicle I’m awakened by an “it’s too bright to sleep message.”

I’ve switched out quarterpanels out for boards, put roof on every tile, rearranged such that the bed is in a 1x3 area enclosed by board/wall and an internal door (says it’s opaque and I sure can’t see in/out of the sleeping area). Currently it’s 1x3 with a cargo thing on either side of the bed.

At the same time, it’s too dark to craft inside my vehicle (I’m debating how to do lighting - hate wasting a floor spot to a light that could be floor trunk - I’m a hoarder - I needs my storage). So as a side question is there any really good way to light inside your vehicle without it eating a whole tile?

Too bright to sleep and too dark to craft - my vehicle isn’t good for anything! But it looks pretty cool - so there’s that.

I never did sleep in the RV so I don’t know if it has the same problem, but I’ve tried to incorporate some of it’s structure (like roof everywhere) to no avail.

Character has heavy sleeper and less sleep traits and is healthy/no pain, no hunger/thirst, and if I sleep in my basement bed I usually wake “well rested” unless I have a cold or something. Bed has 2 sheets, 2 blankets, 2 pillows. One must be comfy when the world ends, ya know.

I’ve tried googling but most google for this game ends up at the wiki and it seems rare that I can find answers to specific questions without pulling teeth. I did see in the wiki that the “quality” for sleep of a car bed is way lower than a real bed.

So…is there something obvious I’m failing here?

Been a while since I played stable, but I think that everything above ground is “too bright to sleep” in the daytime, or at least, that’s how it was at one point…

Craft a bandanna into a blindfold, problem solved.

Yeah, that’s an issue with sleep and the day/night cycle on stable. With the implementation of the new indoor lighting system in the latest experimentals you can sleep in a dark/boarded up room or your curtained mobile home independent of the light level outside. A blindfold works well enough if you don’t want update though.

a way to rapidly loot things…

press /

toggle one side to D for your dragged things inventory

toggle one for either what your standing on or whats in a certain direction like above or below

spam enter

It happens randomly, just retry sleeping. Turn off all lights and if you can, park in a garage.

Thanks for the info. Sadly I think the blindfold is experimental too (per item browser).

Is there a composite list of changes in experimental? I see the thread under announcements that’s a kind of running thing but reading thru 63 pages is a bit much.

Or, what are the biggest changes thus far or things that would be very different for someone just getting a grip on stable?

As for vehicle lighting, if you install a roof on your vehicle it should have dome lights built in. Just hit Shift+6 and select “Turn on dome lights”

Be wary about wasting diesel/battery power during crafting though, as time does pass.

The done light comes from the controls, not the roof. Also, only base controls have one, not the remotely-controllable controls (like solar cars have).

Clothing encumbrance.
Encumbrance multiplied by 10 (and effects divided by 10). Almost no armor has 0 encumbrance now.
Torso encumbrance is less harmful, hand encumbrance more harmful.

Acid hits way harder, you can’t get immune to it by just wearing boots.

Later on, zombies get way tougher and new types of zombies start spawning.

Derp. That makes more sense.
