Whoa. Thanks. Awesome depth to this game. Always more layers than you first think.
If I leave my base while a follower NPC is asleep, will they come out after me when they wake up? Or just wait until I come back?
npc do sleep? I thought they are machines without human needs that are always awake and do not drink an eat.
You can tell them to.
I befriended the NPC at the evac center I spawned in. She played a statue for several days, then began to nag me every few minutes with things like, ‘Are we sleeping soon?.’, ‘I’m getting tired.’, and my favorite (paraphrased from memory), ‘The number one cause of death is lack of sleep!’.
So I told her it was safe to rest and she tore THROUGH the tent I had been sleeping in, yelled at me very rudely to move for awhile and then, when I moved, she settled down on the rollmat I had been sleeping on. #whatabitch
I was conflicted since I was kinda pissed at here for tearing down the tent and basically standing over me while I slept yelling insults and being rude, but otoh, that behavior was freaking awesome. I can’t wait to get a bunch of followers together. Will they fight over a single rollmat, was it even the rollmat she was going for (huge pile of clothes there as well)?!? Will I need to make a barracks arrangment for multiple followers to sleep? Til not enough beds causes a massive shootout as sleepy NPCS vie for limited bedspace.
On the Autopickup configuration screen, what’s the I/E column? “Inclusive/Exclusive” - I can’t tell what difference it makes…
Discovered something handy in my current game… Vehicle Frame + Foot Pedals + Alternator = Uber Battery charger. I took a few hours peddling away and got a fairly low battery up to 38%
i preffer lawnmover engine, small fuel cost small noise small smoke and you can do other things while it generate alot of power
PROTIP: when you are cuffed you can try to mele a zombie cuffs like other weapons can sometimes stuck inside a zombie
So… There’s a mi-go outside my LMOE shelter… And I’m only 10 days in and have been just barely getting by… Should I attempt to kill it with fire, run away in the middle of the night and hope it doesn’t see me, (speaking of which, can they see in the dark?) or stay underground for a few days and hope it goes away? I’ve never had to fight a mi-go, but from observing the trails of carnage they leave when they spawn in a city, I don’t think I want to.
Also, I heard a child shrieking above me. Due to there being a mi-go up there I didn’t feel like checking it out, but last I checked shriekers weren’t children, so anyone know what that was?
Mi-gos can make all sounds of Fun sounds, which include children screaming.
If you’re in a LMOE shelter, any guns that might prove to be enough dakka to handle it? XP

Ahh, that explains it. I knew they mimic sounds, but jeez, a child screaming? That’s terrifying.
As for the guns… This must be some kind of new LMOE layout. Didn’t have a fenced off gun rack. And it has rooms with counters and metal hallways instead of a bunch of storage shelves in a main room. I was so used to the other one I was honestly pretty surprised when I found it.
So, no guns. Got a ton of salt and some books though. But I don’t have a ton of crafting materials. Also, no backpacks or duffel bags or anything like that, so I’d have to abandon most of my stuff if I run. Other than fire I’m kinda at a loss. Are mi-gos intelligent enough to avoid fire, like animals? Or will they happily stand in it like a zombie?
I think they’ve even mimicked gunfire before. >.>
And wow that sucks. They’ll back off if you light fire in their path, but there’s nothing stopping you from waiting until they blunder into a bush, THEN igniting it. I’ve just barely killed several that way.
Alright, well, I guess I’ll give it a go then. I’m probably going to regret this. For future reference, if anyone else decides to do a school start, don’t set the school on fire. As you watch all those precious books burn away, you will regret it. And you’ll also be deaf. Because burning buildings are really, really loud.
When in doubt, craft a spear.
And then die to the first skeleton when you don’t have a bashing weapon. You could carry a nail board for skellies and a spear but that’s extra weight and volume.

I dunno, I was doing pretty well against skeletons with a knife spear. Though I did have a bit of melee skill. Honestly spears seem pretty good against most basic zombies as long as you don’t get swarmed.
Cataclysm doesn’t run FULLY on D&D logic. If spears used the “faked reach attack using gun stats” effect that bullwhips use, you
d be screwed. But the skeleton’s resistance to ranged attacks doesn’t apply to true reach attacks.
Is there any way to prevent zombie grabbing? Being grabbed and stuck while standing on acid is no fun.
Stay away from zombies. Ranged weapons are your friend. So is fire.
It is FUN though. Ranged weapons are good at stopping grabbing/grabbers.
