Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!
Each enemy that can evolve has a set monster it evolves to

Now if only we had a Cataclysm Pokedex to list all those…

EDIT: Turns out I’m part wrong there. A monster can also be made to upgrade into a monster GROUP instead of a single monster. Zombies in particular are basically the Cataclysm equivalent to eevee here. XP

I choose you, zombue hul- OHGODNOTTHEFACE!

Also, dare I ask why zombies can upgrade into so many oddball, advanced steps? Like, they can become spitters or CORROSIVE zombies, but not acidic ones. Likewise, they can become feral hunters or predators, but not runners. Likewise maaaybe we should remove grapplers, huge boomers, and hulks in favor of their pre-evolved forms that are already on the list.
Where do you get your information? The source code?
I don’t want to focus on the evolution time here, just the potential stages.

Edit: Deleted speculation.
Answers hide in the two files mentioned below. Best read with Notepad++, I suspect?

It’s in monsters.json and monstergroups.json. I guess I’ll do the hard part and start reading up…edit will occur when I get the whole bloody list.

EDIT: Hnnng.

Zombies upgrade into any of the following:
Grabber zombies
Grappler zombies
Feral hunters
Skeletons
Smoker zombies
Bloated zombies
Swimmer zombies
Shreiker zombies
Spitter zombies
Zombie necromancers
Boomers
Huge boomers
Zombie brutes
Zombie hulks
Zombie masters
Corrosize zombies
Zombie hollows
Zombie predators.

Fat zombies can upgrade into bloated zombies OR boomers.

Acidic zombies can upgrade into spitter zombies.

Spitter zombies can upgrade into corrosive zombies.

Boomers can upgrade into huge boomers.

Grabber zombies can upgrade into grappler zombies.

Feral runners can upgrade into feral hunters.

Feral hunters can upgrade into feral predators.

and finally…

Spore clouds can upgrade into fungaloids.

Nuthing for poor fungaloids or triffid?
That kinda makes em lose in a long run.
Unless…Fungal hulks anyone?

Madness. But yeah, looks like young fungaloids growing up is handled by a special attack rather than the upgrade feature.

A huge beer to you, sir! +1
Finally some clarity. Well, sort of.
The section GROUP_ZOMBIE_UPGRADE is something worth looking at, although it’s basically copypasted above.
Now I don’t understand either the role of the runners… Runners can end up predators, but vanilla zombies can’t become runners, but instead zombies could “skip” straight to hunters. It’s like feral runners are their own species. Could also possibly be an oversight or a mistake made by God… err, Kevin.

I <3 zombie evolutionary studies.

Edit:
Actually it’s as if feral runners are their own baseline zombie, same as ‘zombie’. They both sort of rise from a dead human corpse. They’re brothers of vanilla zombies! But just with limited evolutionary potential. Fascinating! I’m such a goddamn anthropologist sometimes.

I suspect that zombie evolution needs a rework. Like give zombie dogs some options, MAYBE allow brutes to become hulks, and restrict the basic zombie so that they only advance to the first step of an upgrade line.

Wait, do I understand this correctly?
Zombies can evolve straight into hulks in one step. (True/False)
Or is it just something only Zombie Masters are capable of doing?

I always thought hulks were the result of several zombies merging together

Far as I can tell, zombies do indeed have a small chance of becoming hulks. Or necromancers. Or masters. Or huge boomers, or grapplers, or corrosives… >_>

Is there any lo(re)gical reason/explanation why the ant food storage contains only Fusion Blaster Arm and Metabolic Interchange CBMs?

I’ve looted 3 anthills and there were lots of only these 2 CBMs.

Food has decayed. At the start there’s usually a lot of fruit to be found there, and some mutated arms.

As for why those CBMs are in that item group, no idea. Injoke I guess. :V

The foodsuply of an anthill should somehow get restocks as the game progresses. Or some day we ll have to wonder whether these ants live by simply breathing in air and doing photosinthesis.

That falls under simulated looting, I guess.

no no, there’s enough food. I mean’t why only these 2 bionics and not any others? I found about 10 of every of these 2 bionics in 3 anthills (maybe even more, haven’t gathered or counted them). it would be awesome to have some other bionics too in there.

I can only assume it’s either a mistake or some kinda in-joke.

This is probably a noob question but i can’t seem to figure out how to add a cargo space to my car. when I go into the install menu for the vehicle “trunk”, “box”, etc. don’t appear on the list, and i cant find a book or recipe on the wiki or item browser that allows me to unlock that construction tree.

so how in the world do I add a well needed trunk to my car, do i need to be a certain lv. I have lv 3 mechanics what am I doing wrong.

Cargo spaces need a cargo carrier part, whereas most trunks, boxes, etc simply use steel frames.

I have the parts do you have to build them on a specific frame like steel frame, light frame. the reason I’m asking is because they don’t even appear in my install list as an option to choose from. so even if i have the parts I still cant install one.

I cannot read or fabricate during the day when the weather is bad (rain, etc). Is this a bug or a feature? I am using 0.C stable, and I am near an apartment if that matters.

I never experienced this before, but I always did my reading/crafting next to an active console, so it could be that I didn’t know about it.
