Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!

XD good story I’ll have to keep an eye out for that. As for the vehicle towing, its not a question of making a part that does the job but codding the physics behind how the part works for various vehicles. We tend to think it easy to just ‘make a tow bar’ but in order to do so someone has to code in the physics since they don’t already exist like they do in the real world.

Most likely the first form of “towing” that you’re going to see will be the ability to winch a car up onto a platform truck and haul it with you (similar to what modern tow trucks do). Towing a trailer is probably a bit farther off than that.

That would be handy, yeah.

A winch to pull a stuck vehicle would also possibly be simpler, as the vehicle providing the pull wouldn’t be moving.

^^^ potentially useful. There are certainly already things in-game less helpful than a winch. No one said anything about the drive-by-wire stuff though… I feel the need to be more informed on the topic.

I need to try remote driving.

Where can I find a cvd machine?

Bottom of certain labs, and I also could’ve sworn I saw one in the science building of a FEMA camp once. That was all the way back in 0.B though, and I haven’t seen one in the camp since.

Bottom?
Haven’t found labs with more than one floor so far.
Back to me tank, though…
Why shouldn’t I make the outer layer from heavy boards instead of quarterpanels that have far less durability and if making two layers of hull how can I board it or load up my loot?

Derp? The latest experimentals have heavy-duty versions of quarterpanels. In fact that came about from my messing about with modding in tanks. <3

Ok, that solves it then.
I do like quarterpanels more, can’t see a damn through boards what I assume “opaque” stands for.

Opaque, yus. Makes it a lot easier to not crash into everything when you’re able to see where you’re going.

Can you turn on wandering spawns mid game? Hopefully so, so I can have time to create a base and get things running before turning them on

Yes you can. Go to the save file for the world > world options text file > turn the wander spawns from false to true (should be the fourth option) and then save the text file. Now I don’t know how they will work after you turn them on. Though they should be fine. Don’t listen to me I only know 50% of what I’m talking about at all times.

AFAIK turning on wander spawns after a world is already created won’t do anything unless you generate new overmaps, which will have proper hordes in them.

So, this time after sleeping, i got this message:

“Alertness comes somewhat fast, and your muscles stretch easier than before you went to bed”

Any idea what does it mean?

Also, from my knowledge of English grammar, that comma should not be there.

This is a new mechanic that will approximate your “health” stat (what vitamins boost and drugs kill). Up until now, that stat was totally hidden from player’s view and you could only tell how high/low is it by your regeneration rate during sleep (which is quite hard to measure without timing your sleep) and as a result didn’t get a proper balancing.

Two independent clauses: “Alertness comes somewhat fast” and “Your muscles stretch easier than before you went to bed”, so the comma insn’t necessarily “wrong”. You certainly could say “Alertness comes somewhat fast and your muscles stretch easier than before you went to bed”, without the comma and that would also be correct, but that risks the chance of confusion with this grouping “Alertness comes somewhat fast and your muscles stretch easier | than before you went to bed”. By putting the comma there it helps define that the “than before you went to bed” applies only to the muscle stretching, not to the alertness speed as well.

It’s a case where either putting the comma there or leaving it out would both be correct, but by putting it there it conveys additional information about the particular way to phrase the statement and statement grouping that isn’t present without the comma.

“Alertness comes somewhat fast” is a confusingly worded phrase, though. I’d emend it to “Alertness comes quickly. You stretch like a cat, feeling lithe and flexible.”

Hilarity ensues when naming one’s character Alertness.

throw the cow over the fence some hay.

"Alertness comes surprisingly quickly. Your Muscles feel less knotted than when you went to bed."
or maybe
"Total alertness comes quickly today, and you realize you feel really good today."
maybe even
"You snap awake, and realize that your mind feels clear and focused; your body full of energy."
hmm… better wording
"You snap awake with a clear mind and your body abuzz with seemingly limitless energy."
maybe even…
“You wake feeling refreshed, focused, and with a greater sense of well-beinghealthier than when you went to bed.”
