Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!

Yes, you just need to press ''*'' while in-game, it opens up the building menu. It is also used for fermenting vats, repairing windows and doors, building walls, furniture, useful fireplaces, till the soil to farm, placing anvils and so on. You'll see by yourself :)
I thought of DF... Isn't it meant in the future implementing some kind of social life? So my companions would not just run after me as pets but I could give them some advices or orders, eg. to hunt game and bring some food, or to guard some place, where they would walk randomly... So it would be possible to make a camp of survivors, like in the [i]"Tunnel in the sky"[/i]!

It would be nice if we could expand on how NPCs interact with furniture and stuff. Personally I’d prefer they be able to reliably board a vehicle without smashing the windshield first. :V

And without taking the driver’s place…

Yes. I’d rather they man the turret instead.

Your [b]mouth [/b]is very encumbered! [b]Running [/b]is slowed.

Really?

Harder to catch your breath. The real major affect is increased stamina drain, assuming you’re in the experimental versions that have stamina.

I was digging for much time and my character was very thirsty and very hungry. He ate many portions of food and drank about 6 bottles of water and was still very thirsty and hungry. Now he’s dehydrated and very hungry. I’m afraid there will not be enough food to feed him, even though there are lots of it.

If you keep a good pace in eating, i think you can survive fairly well. Try to drink more than eating, or if you have soups, pass them through all the orifices you have.

All the orifices. All of them.

Also, a modding question. Anyone figured out a way to make a fuel tank vehicle part take up the center slot while NOT allowing you to install anything in that tile’s “fuel source” slot? Basically making it occupy both the center and fuel slots.

Why do I keep imagining things like these?[sup][sup][sup]Not pretty. [sup]Absolutely not.[/sup][/sup][/sup][/sup]

Tsk, I’m pretty sure I saw a few humvees just lying on a road. And APCs too…
Military cargo trucks, I usually see them on military blockposts, the one with soldiers or a tank drone.
The one which I don’t see, tho, is the mechanized APC, the one with built-in recharging stations. I saw it a few times in debug spawn list, but not single one in actual game.

As I’ve already said, I done derped. Yeah, humvees show up on the highway vehicle group.

Military cargo trucks actually spawn at military checkpoints due to hard-coded behavior, from what I’ve seen in source diving.

But yeah, as far as I can tell the mechanized APC doesn’t exist.

That is a shame, I can make rechargeable mod on electronics lvl 5, but can’t recharge them until lvl 8.
Mecha APC could really help me. Or something else with rechargeable station.

For a tips:
Uhh… if you got the ground floor of the lab blown up, but not entrance, don’t jump into it. I got stuck for 3 days, broke my arm on a turret and managed to get up only because I can climb on a furniture, apparently.

Ooh, I had a clever thought. It seems whether the game calls the “add a vehicle” function, it can accept either a vehicle name OR a vehicle group. So one could, in a mod, exploit this via adding a vehicle group of the same name.

EDIT: Nevermind. Tested it in a mod, it doesn’t work. ;_;

Found a new item called a hydration pack. It’s got something called age and burn in it’s description, and I was wondering what it is. Is it some sort of thing that’ll make the item slowly degrade over time?

It means you’ve got debug mode on; those are variables that every item has, but you can’t normally see.

Odd. Never showed up before during the times I did some silly experimenting.

I’ve noticed when using debug to wish for items, that some items have age and burn, and other stats like when food will rot. Yet, not all items possess all stats, even when it might make sense for them to. I suspect it is due to the game’s multiple-contributors nature that results in this?

In any case, crafted a vortex engine. Byproduct was an undefined vortex core, which doesn’t work. Bug, or do I have to do something to make it a vortex core?

Have you tried the experimental version that has my vehicle part additions added? Among a few other things it included a partial update to Blazemod, which should fix that.

EDIT: Meanwhile, I’m trying to figured out what I screwed up in here ( https://github.com/CleverRaven/Cataclysm-DDA/pull/12926 ).

Got the experimental from a day or so ago. Though I started my playthrough a few days before that.
