Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!

I’ll have to find more NPCs. Ooh, maybe next game I’ll use random NPCs to spread the love.

Why are the zombies keep spawning deep inside of woods near my secluded cabin?

Do you have Hordes enabled? If so, then any noise you make around your cabin (and thus in the reality bubble) could attract them. You probably can’t see the Z’s that denote these on the map because forest tiles greatly reduce viewing distance.

Yes, I have hordes enabled, but aren’t their hearing too good? I’ve never fired a shot around and traveled only by bycicle. Can I turn them off without starting in a new world?

More Mycus-related questions. Assuming you decide to become a monster, and wind with the the Mycus Feeder trait…how do you survive? Not sure how one gets more mycus fruits.

In that case, assuming you haven’t caused any noise at a level above 20 (alarms, explosions, gunshots and the like) and you aren’t absolutely drowning in zombies. Then your fine, Hordes/Wander Spawns tend to do just that, wander around. You’ll get some uninvited guests occasionally, but as long as you deal with them relatively quietly you shouldn’t have to worry about attracting any more of them.

I’m a little confused about this, I had thought that hordes were part of static mode, but are they still only in dynamic spawn/is it too late to add them to my world?

Also, is there any piece of survivor normal layer clothing other than the suits? I need something that won’t cover my legs too.

EDIT: One more question, any sort of non-power armor that’ll block feral predator stabs?

Zombie Hordes are only present with wander spawns set to true. If you go to your Cataclysm save folder, in your world folder of choice there should be a word document named ‘worldoptions’. Given the fact hordes spawn over time and there’s nothing that say’s you can’t do it specifically… You should just be able to change it there and have hordes spawn in your world shortly. Just a piece of advice though, be prepared to bail out of whatever shelter or safehouse your using at a moment’s notice with a vehicle until your able to fight off large numbers of zombies without making lots of noise, because once you start making a racket or a shrieker zombie goes off and they start chasing you the hordes can seem endless. And they’ll chase you for days to the ends of the earth on foot.

The survivor trenchcoat covers both the torso and arms. The sleeveless version only covers the torso.

I don’t think I’ve ever let a Predator get close enough to or stab me before. The item browser says they do 4d4+5 damage per attack and have 5 melee skill. Though I think their stab attack might be armor piercing, lemme do some field testing.

Hmm. Does wander spawn have any effect with static spawning on?

hit ? and then 2, change the spawn options under Current world. There is no need to go into text files to change those options.

wandering is hordes.

Static is having all of the zombies/creatures in a given areas spawn immediately at the start. If you choose static false, then they spawn periodically as you move around.

I use false with a higher spawn rate. (4x) I just walked outside my base and has 2 smokers rushing at me. it’s 30 days into a 60 season spring.

Having both on means, pretty much your boned if you start in a city, as one shrieker will spawn a horde, or if some of them are bashing on cars etc.

I use em both together. You get all the zombies that spawn at the beginning of the game with static, then you have hordes as well that’ll wander around the map or zero in on you once something makes noise in the reality bubble.

Ah, well that’s convenient.

There is a 9 x 9 maptile area that I found that looks like it is meant for a base or something, there is already a decent amount of stuff and overall it looks like an odd place, but is there is something about this that I’m missing? there is a grain silo that I have no clue what its for, or is it a work in progress thing?

Hmm. So wait. One of you says hordes won’t work with static spawns, another says it WILL work.

Make up your minds or I’ll eat you. :V

You need to finish some quests from the refugee center for that place to be populated.

What? D: Get any closer and I’ll torch yah, you Fungal traitor!

Also, reading comprehension brah. We both said they work together, he also mentioned that your pretty much boned if you spawn in a city with both enabled. It’s literally Raccoon City at that point.

Ah. Hmm. I thought he’d said it requires static set to false. ;w;

And hey, eating you is a normal dragon thing. If I was still a fungal traitor, there would be tendrils and marloss sap involved. o3o

Live impalement testing is done for the day.

Zombie Predator impaled me through my usual reinforced/fitted light survivor suit without issue every time. Regular survivor suit protected against impalement once out of several times. And heavy survivor suit didn’t fair much better. It should also be noted that I have both Torso Alloy Plating and Subdermal Carbon Filament.

The impalement doesn’t really hurt all that much it seems (though getting stabbed in the chest multiple times really isn’t conductive to your health), but if your weren’t able to tank or dodge it’s regular attacks, while also being attacked by other zombies and then had to deal with the bleeding inflicted by the impalement… Your gonna have a bad time.

It rubs the maroloss on its skin or else it gets the tendrils again?

Hmm. Shotguns solve that zombie problem handily.

Then again, the marloss marinade does add a certain something to the taste… owo

Raiding in the day is kinda viable now in experimentals. So long as you’re doing it at the edges of towns, have an idea for an escape route, etc. If you’re decent at melee, you can slowly start at the edge where you can see zombies, then move towards them slowly. Once a zombie or two sees you, fall back and wait for them, preferably luring them into a shrub to slow them down and attack. If you have a lighter, you can set the shrub on fire to quickly deal more damage, but if you’re planning on looting them you’d best grab stuff when zombies die before the stuff burns.

And of course, there’s running. Being able to run is great. Managed to run in a pretty populated area, nab things I wanna get and run off before getting damage. During the day, it works well since you know where the zombies are.

There’s obviously some risk to it, but then again groping around in the darkness of night has it’s own risks as well.

On experimental, raiding at night practically isn’t viable at all anymore - the huge boomer makes it so.

By the time you’ve got the equipment to avoid being GLOWed, you’re not “raiding” like that anymore, anyway - you’re wading through them.
