Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!

Havin had a lot of issues with things like LFMO shelter or cabin not spawning and therefor ruining shelteted/ambushed scenarios.
It seems tweaking worldgen parameters, mainly the size of the cities, causes this.
Is there any ways to avoid this besides of using the default settings in worldgen?

I find EMP grenades are awesome for disabling turrets, myself. You even get to pilfer all their ammo and stuff.

I’ve never played with mutations much, at all, really. The few times I did it was random and kinda not what I was going for haha. Can you “guide” it at all?

That’s what purifier and targeted mutagens are for…

What tools is needed to disassemble umbrellas and wheels?

Nope. Avoid city size above 10, is all I can advise.

With regular mutagens, there’s never a guarantee that you will get the mutation you want (although the Robist Genetics trait gives you a better chance of a good mutations). Using targeted mutagens (medical, cephalapod, lupine, etc.) will give you mutations related to that animal. The wiki does a nice job of explaining which mutagens do what.

Ok, cool thanks. I knew random mutagens were…well, random…but I’ve not come across the targeted kind. I haven’t done many lab raids though. This time, though, I think I’ll make a point of it  Most my games go with gathering stuff, sussing a base and a vehicle, then a wrong move and death… Or I update and just start again

Ever heard of House of The Dead?

Oh, and one last thing about targeted mutagens. Alongside finding targeted mutagens, you can actually find books on how to make targeted mutagens in labs (look for lab journals and a book called “chemical refenrence- CLASSIFIED”)

Elise Papyrus is trapped in the lab (lab challenge) but the surface has a turret just waiting for her. Hoping that taking all my delicious loot down floor by floor will lead to some sort of a way out. Teleporter maybe? (not tele traps they just send you somewhere random on same floor) Are my efforts wasted, and should I just keep retrying until I find a lab thats actually possible to get out of. Note: killed a bunch of stuff and got lots of good loot but the main exit is a no go and she is feeling really guilty about eating all the dead scientists creep meat. D8 I am hoping I can nap that off later and craft again… without having to resort to more creap meat to stay alive. Other than that 1+ floors down.

Hint: wait for the night.

If you can’t figure anything out, here’s a complete guide: http://www.wiki.cataclysmdda.com/index.php?title=Guide:_Lab_Challenge

Or, if you have static NPCs, hope the NPC can destroy the turret for you. Just hope the NPC doesn’t have a flamethrower.

As far as I know, NPCs can’t go up/down stairs, nor can they spawn in 0 z-level of the lab.
