Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!

You only hack robots with the control laptop .

It can hack robots within the reality bubble remotly as far as i know.
Its an incredible powerfull tool.
Saying robots i mean robots and turrets.
if you succeed they will turn friendly.
I always send m thx to the high heavens when i find hacking software thats how powerfull this thing is :stuck_out_tongue:

wow… what about hacking terminals, such as police station and docs office?

There no tool to help you with that.

All that counts is you computer abillity.

Not entirely certain, as I did not have a list of my skills at the time, but I had zero construction, less than 7 mechanics (couldn’t install it for at least one, possibly two levels?), and not sure on my fabrication or electronics levels which are currently six and three. And this was disassembling it using the construction menu. Hope that helps, sorry I cannot be more exact.
Did a bunch of testing today, with electronics 10, mechanics 20+, construction 6. I believe it’s a random drop, unless it’s dependant on construction. I savescummed a few times and got it the third time. The more you know.

Just found a working rv, but the battery is empty.
So how should I charge it, assuming based on Wiki by having normal batteries and refilling?
Also does the kitchenunit need to be filled with water and how?

before you charge the battery check its status.

It should be in good shape or else it ll leak energy which will result in an empty battery again very soon.

you can charge it with normal batterys by sellecting the tile in which the battery is located within the vehicle menu and pthen pressing the related button (there should be a tooltip for that … + i think it was f)

you can not fill the kitchen unit itself with water… you can however draw water using the the kitchen unit from containers attached to the same vehicle (water tanks)

These should to my best knowledge only hold clear water and can be filled by having clear water in your oinventory and using the same method as filling the battery

You might be able to start up the vehicle with jumper cables and the help of another car with battery left too though i never tried .

HOLY CRAP, I JUST MADE THE BIGGEST EXPLOSION EVER…
Zombie Siege, got bored of holding off thousands of zombies…
Found my working car, placed exactly 186500 gasoline in it. Oh dear god.
I set the car to max speed (160 miles per hour)
Bail out…
AND MY ENTIRE SCREEN IS COVERED WITH FIRE.
(The car was nearly out my reality bubble.
Respawn only 5 map tiles away
ENTIRE SCREEN STILL FILLED WITH FIRE…
Respawn in town
ENTIRE SCREEN IS FILLED WITH FIRE.
Holy shit.
This went on until everything from the huge city to the nearby giant forest (about 60 map tiles) was covered in fire…
Tactical Nuke.
I shall show you a image when I decided to stop rage-quitting of infinite fire.
So here’s a hint for all you people new to Cataclysm DDA…
Don’t play with gasoline and matches…
Also, can C4 cause gasoline to explode?

Valpo’s correct; you need to install a water tank. The kitchen unit itself doesn’t store water. However, you can install the water tank on the very same tile as the kitchen unit. It’s very convenient.

What are some good ways to find petrified eyes? I know about museums already, but are there any other reliable sources? My Ring of Frigid Suffering isn’t enough to stave off my urge to collect artifacts!

Pawn shops, mansions. I don’t know about reliable, but that’s where I usually find them.
Mine finales aren’t a bad place to look for artifacts: 1 in 4 have nothing useful, one has a petrified eye, one has an artifact, one is farmable for artifacts, with proper stats/gear.

But then you turn into John Candlebury.

How rare are Granades?

Im going with very rare. Final answer.

Are you sure about turrets? I just tried it, and even inside the turret’s firing range, it keeps telling me ‘no robots in range’.

Edit: Ah, nevermind. I just found the commit where they limited it to a 10 tile range. That was the intended behavior, apparently.

They limited the range? well it needs more nerfs

maybe higher tier robots should have a chance to counter your hack and fry your laptop.

or while your hacking they track your signal and come after you to kill you (provided the action takes long enough)

I limited it to 10 tiles because old code implied the author intended it to be 10 tiles, just misplaced a parenthesis.
It wasn’t for balance reasons and I’ve never seen anyone complain about 60 tiles range being too much.

If people think 10 tiles is uselessly little, it could be extended.

If I were to balance it, I’d give it a range of about 30 tiles, but give a huge penalty for passing through walls (ie. regular wall counting as 10 tiles, concrete as 20, metal as 30).

60 tile range means i could safely hack any robot which is to powerfull imo.

I really like this idea. Makes it more realistic while still putting a check on it. You have the range to hack turrets out in the open with no cover around, and for others with cover, you should at least have the opportunity to get within range.

Idk, robots are absurdly powerful and have extremely potent long-range weapons. It’s not unrealistic that a radio single can broadcast further then a robot can target and shoot you. I mean the ionosphere is great at bouncing radio waves.

So ever since the new vehicle construction system came out, I’ve been wondering- what exactly is the effect of adding quarterpanels? Two things I know about them- they block movement, and they serve as an inside/outside barrier.

Do quarterpanels have any additional blocking effect apart than that, though? If, for example, the front of my vehicle collides with something, can it “pass through” a plain old frame and damage interior components? Would a quarterpanel prevent this? My intuition is no, but in that case the quarterpanels in front of windshields that pretty much every car you find on the street has are pretty pointless.

Another vehicle-related newbie question: can you make a standing electrical generator using foot pedals and alternators without any wheels?

You can definitely make a standing electrical generator with a gasoline or diesel engine, a gas tank, and an alternator, without any wheels. But I don’t know about foot pedals, and my hunch is you can’t.
