Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!

I think you mean the military outpost where turrets are on the outside. In the bunker they are in niches inside the building and you can’t get LOS on four of them without getting very close (close enough to die in one volley wearing survivor gear).[/quote]
Oh, I was thinking of outpost when I gave my answer. I just use a military ID card for bunkers.

Oh, well then. EMP grenade.

I just noticed in the MOTD that it says there are three new very large buildings. I know the mall is one of them, what are the other two?

I have a question, guys: How can one get the Well-Rested bonus in the latest experimentals? I used to get it all the time just by sleeping without an alarm, and now I can’t seem to get it, no matter how I sleep. I’m using a built bed, with pillows and blankets and all. Is there a technique, or do the temperature/light/amount of blankets have something to do with it?

You mean the message + a bit of negative fatigue or some sort of status?
The well rested message occurs when your fatigue gets very low while you sleep. It typically occurs when you sleep when barely tired and nothing wakes you up (helps to sleep underground).

Oh, thank you Coolthulhu!
Yes, it was the message and negative fatigue, I guess!
I’ll try sleeping underground!

Weird question: when I go try to download an experimental build, there’s a list of “Last Modified” dates and times; what time zone are they listed in? (I like downloading versions which are at least a few hours old - I figure less chance of major bugs that way.)

What is the requirement for installing a vehicle welding rig - as in, what else has to be on that square?

Any kind of frame. And batteries, somewhere, if you actually want to run it. But all you need is a frame, which is what all vehicle parts go on, with a few exceptions (rams, external fuel tanks, etc)

Found Power Storage and Joint Torsion Ratchet CBMs. The actual CBM itself is just an Integrated Toolset and Fusion Blaster.

I was just wondering if there are any drawbacks to installing them (assuming I have enough skills to install them at no risk) ? Lower hp, vulnerability to certain attacks, etc ?

Also: How do I check what kind of settings I currently have in my World. Been a while since I created the world, I forgot about the static/dynamic spawn of the npc and zombies.

The only CBM with a drawback is Fusion Blaster Arm - makes you unable to wield any rifles or other two-handed things, and use ?-2 menu.

Yeah, the Fusion Blaster Arm isn’t worth it imo, as you can find more powerful firearms later on. (and even craft a rifle using the fusion blaster arm.)

Sorry for not being clear. I had no intention of using the blaster.

I meant drawbacks in installing the CBMs in general.
For example if having more CBM means having less hp or becoming more vulnerable to shocker.
Or maybe installing the Power Storage means I have to be able to take it out if I want to install the Power Storage Mk II.

Nope, no drawbacks if you successfully install a CBM.

Although, if the installation is a failure, you could end up damaging your genetic code (Mutations), getting a faulty cbm (which have various effects, none of which are good), or damaging your body and causing a small amount of pain.

Good to know.
BTW, the wiki says we can install unlimited amount of power storage CBMs. Is there a max amount of power that you can have ? It seems a bit OP.

So even after having Power Storage, Integrated Toolkit and Joint Ratchet CBMs installed I cant even install a windshield as I still need either a powered welder or duct tape. Too bad, I thought the Toolkit would obviate the need for welder.

You need welding goggles/Glare Protection CBM regardless of whether you’re using oxyacetylene torch, welder, or Integrated Toolset. The UI is just not equipped to handle giving you that information.

None. There were talks about giving it a limit many months ago, but nobody got around to actually limiting it. The only limit CBMs have is keys on keyboard - after you’ve installed enough you run out. And unlike inventory, bionics menu cannot be navigated by keyboard, so if you’re planning on installing all CBMs in the game, put in active ones first.

Gotcha.
Created the welding goggles after scouring the town for spray can.

Question about the UPS / battery. Is it possible to recharge those things with bionic power?

how do you make spiked plating? i have 14 mechanics yet i cant find the recipe anywhere (wiki says mechanics 4)

if I remember correctly Spike plating requires sheet metal and scrap metal.
actually :
8x lump of steel OR steel plating
4x chunk of steel OR 8x scrap metal OR 4x spike

also either a vehicle forge rig or a welding rig (or welder, acetylene torch, integrated toolset, etc) . you can always open the build menu “&” press “f” for filter, then “spike” that should show you all the recipes that you can craft with the word “spike” in it. If it doesn’t show up in the list you may need a specific mechanical book for the recipe. i.e. :

Book: Mechanical Mastery

Can bring your mechanics skill to 6
Requires mechanics level 3 to understand.
Requires intelligence of 6 to easily read.
Reading this book affects your morale by -1
This book takes 30 minutes to read.

This book contains 14 crafting recipes:
combat chainsaw (off), chainsaw (off), pane of reinforced glass, reinforced head light, vehicle controls, folding bicycle, duct tape, spiked plating, firearm repair kit, makeshift welder, jackhammer, recharging station, vehicle forge rig, vehicle welding rig
An advanced guide on mechanics and welding, covering topics like “Grinding off rust” and “Making cursive E’s”.

Book: Welding and Metallurgy

Can bring your fabrication skill to 7
Requires fabrication level 4 to understand.
Requires intelligence of 9 to easily read.
This book takes 30 minutes to read.

This book contains 13 crafting recipes:
pair of welding goggles, shishkebab (off), No. 9 (off), firebrand (off), Rising Sun (off), flammenschwert (aus), pane of reinforced glass, reinforced head light, spiked plating, hard plating, makeshift welder, vehicle forge rig, vehicle welding rig
A rather technical textbook that illustrates the science and technique of becoming a better welder.

Can you learn every martial art from books, or only some of them? So far I’ve got tai chi, judo, karate, brawling, boxing, aikido, and taekwondo, but since then I’ve scoured numerous dojos without any new finds.
