What knife are you using to butcher things?[/quote]

Survival knife or a pocketknife, no idea how the game decides what knife to use.

Hm, you should be okay then. Although there could be an issue with the animals you’re trying to butcher if that’s all you’ve tried to butcher so far.

Firstly, the chances of getting bones from humans is 0% (I think.) Zombies will also never yield bones when butchered, and squirrels have quite a low chance to do so. If you’re looking for bones, try for bigger non-zombie animals such as dogs. If you’re strong enough to kill them, wolves/coyotes/moose will yield a large amount of bones too.

Or just skeletal enemies. They tend to give bones. If you use some barrier they aren’t even that much harder than your average zombie. Just do the position wheelbarrow between you and enemy trick and the usual backpedaling with the wheelbarrow to avoid getting hit.

How do you find out the amount of power an engine generates?

Which Youtuber was it? I’ve been looking for a good let’s play to watch while playing.

Engines produce power proportional to their size. So 10L engine produces twice as much as 5L one.
Electric engines have constant power and you can find their values in the json: https://github.com/CleverRaven/Cataclysm-DDA/blob/master/data/json/vehicle_parts.json (ctrl+f “electric” and find the entry).
1L of engine size is 100 “power”, so large electric engine is as powerful as 3.5L engine.

And if you want electric power and not kinetic one, always use a small/medium (less than 10L, but more than 1L) engine and a single truck alternator for generator setups.

So there is no advantage for extra cylinders, only engine capacity matters? A 1 cylinder 3.5L engine will produce just as much power as a 8 cylinder 3.5l engine?

Yep. There are some minor differences (epower drain, hp, weight, higher safe speed for diesels etc.), but in vast majority of cases you just want to find the biggest V12. Big engines are less efficient when idling, but that’s barely noticeable unless you’re running one as a generator.

Hunting knife is better if you can find one (IIRC the survival knife is more intimidating than practical) but DDA automatically has you use the best butchering tool you’ve got.

And welcome to the forums.

Does this include if the poorer butchering tool is sitting out in your inventory and the better butchering tool is in a sheath? Just curious.

works from sheath fine

I keep getting paralyzed by shocker zombies/brutes, despite having the knife spear as weapon (which is made of wood).
Does shock-based attacks have effect too if you are wearing anything made of steel?

Found a basement pot farm in a borded up house, decided to move in, but for some reason i can’t get them to grow? Can i get a permanent UV light down ther or something? :stuck_out_tongue: Guess the lights they had kicked the bucket with the electricity.

You won’t harvest bones from humans or zombies (because they’re edible and there’s no cannibal or tainted version of them, so that would be weird).

Squirrels might be too small - I think the amount of material you can get is proportional to the animal’s size, and they might be small enough to only ever give 1 chunk of meat. Try butchering some deer and see if you’re still not finding bones.

I’ve found a tip that’s not exactly useful in a game, but helps with debugging.
When you’ve got a lot of trash (zed corpses) and don’t want to waste time throwing acid bombs at them and you want this exact place clean (can’t teleport with the debug vehicle), just spawn a lot of shoggoths over the place, then remove them.
Tekeli the trash out™

Knife spear is made of wood and metal. Currently any weapon with metal in it is conductive, probably for balance reasons.

Rad, thanks. (I know if you only have sheathed knives that the game will use a sheathed knife automatically; I just didn’t know if it would still prioritize a better sheathed knife over a poorer non-sheathed knife. But this is probably the case, if it takes sheathed knives into account at all.)

I have found a keg.

I am thinking of using it to store all my water in.

How would I move water from my gallons to the keg?

A very good choice, makes it so much easier to store all the rainwater you’re collecting.(basically turning it into clean water as needed, cuz some recipes also work with regular water and then you’d be wasting cooking time and power)

Either have the key in your inventory(or wielding it) or standing on the same tile as the key and then(U)nloading the gallon jugs. It’ll give you the option to pour the liquid into any container that can accept the liquid(empty or same liquid, doesn’t need to be able to fit all of the liquid) and if you don’t put it all into another container you’ll be asked for a direction to pour the remaining liquid onto the ground(this can be cancelled like usual with directional prompts). The same way you can also pour some rotten milk or ammonia you don’t care for onto the ground(you can’t pick that liquid back up though, so use with caution).

Thank you.

While you can’t pick up liquids from the ground for the purpose of using them, if you’re like me and hate unsightly spills, invest in a mop.
