Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!

For robots I think you need a charged soldering iron. Not sure, but the amount of charge consumed might depend on the size of the robot. I always mod my soldering irons for extra battery capacity in any case.
I got a question. How come things such as chicken walkers ignore everything except the player? Surely whoever owns it didn’t program it to attack just 1 out of how ever many billion people in the world.
Well if they ignore NPCS it’s a bug. That said the reason they don’t attack zombies is because they sufficiently mutated to the point that they are not human and the robots are programmed to not shoot animals. If you were to break a mutation threshould you would no longer be targeted by robots or turrets. Unless you damage them.

No, it’s not a bug. It’s more of a lack of feature.
Many monsters still don’t “understand” enemies who aren’t the player. This may change soon (as in, “work is in progress, getting good results”), but for now NPCs and friendly monsters do have a “protection” from many kinds of attacks.

Does that actually work? I’m pretty sure that turrets of all kinds are still hostile to me post-threshold.

If it’s Alpha, no, because you’re pretty much still human with higher-efficiency internals. Any other threshold ought to have it mention that “the turret doesn’t seem to consider you a threat at the moment” if you hang out around it.

Aha, that makes sense.

Is there a safe way to take down a wall in a house? I’m trying to add a door to another room and was wondering if there was any other way than just hoping that the building doesn’t collapse.

Maybe a Jackhammer. Do they work on walls as well?

If it’s an outdoor wall just smack it with your STRONG arms until it breaks down, If it’s a indoor wall the same thing SHOULD work as long if you don’t break more then one

Now I’m wondering what post-threshold Medical types look like.

Yes, but what if you don’t roll Cenobite and roll something slightly less bizarre like Deadened or Pain Junkie? (Now I’m wondering if Deadened and pain-loving traits overwrite each other, or if Deadened just makes them irrelevant except for the ugliness value.)

Hello.

A few questions.

 1. How wide are the bridges in the game? Is it safe to assume they are as wide as the roads are?

 2. How do I reinforce stuff? I have managed to survive into the 3rd season without reinforcing anything at all.

 3. What does it take to learn the recipe for the Vehicle Welding Rig? The wiki says I need an electronics of 4 and a fabrication of 4, my char has a fabrication of 7 and an electronics of 5 yet when I read the book I have with the recipe it says I am not skilled enough yet.

 4. Is there any upper limit to the size of the vehicle you can make?

 5. Yes, although they’re a little wider than roads and have railings. If you’re concerned about driving a vehicle over a bridge then don’t worry about it; it should fine unless you’ve created some sort of massive tank.

 6. Build a sewing needle and (a)ctivate it to repair cloth/leather/wool/fur items, you’ll need some of the material. For kevlar/metal/plastic/nomex you’ll need to (a)ctivate a soldering iron, and for wood/bone/chitin you’ll need to (a)ctivate a basic repair kit. Reinforcing isn’t essential, but it’s very helpful.

 7. The Wiki is probably wrong; you need 4 mechanics skill.

 8. Unsure of this - all I know is you can make vehicles absolutely massive, so my guess would be no.

Got the game today after seeing a youtubers lets play, figured most things out, but is ther some way to make the interface to the right of the screen abit more narrow? It block out 2/3 of the screen.

I have a 6 in my mechanics skill.

I am quite worried about running out of batteries for regular welders right now.

Also, where do I get an anvil or can I make them?

edit*

There was going to be a screenshot but the size is to big.

Try this link to see if you’re missing anything for the Vehicle Welding Rig: http://cdda.estilofusion.com/weldrig/craft

For anvils, you should be able to make one with 40 lumps of steel and 3 fabrication skill. If you’re lucky enough I believe you can find them round the back of Jewellery Stores, and sometimes in Public Works.

Try changing your resolution. It doesn’t do that for me most of the time; also make sure your sidebar is set to ‘narrow’ on the interface options.

Thanks! that worked:) Now i did run into a new problem tho, i got 4 in survival skill, still dont get any bones when i butcher stuff (been trying with humans, zombies, and a squerrel so far) am i just butching the wrong things or do i suffer from bad luck? I only get meat.

What knife are you using to butcher things?

In my experience, bones will drop when butchering larger mammals or skeletons (and their dogs). I guess try a fox? I definitely had them drop off a coyote.
