Tips, Tricks and Newb Questions: Reborn!

idk about normal animals, but only zombies worth dissecting are bio-operators, scientists., technicians and (unless they’ve been nerfed already) all shocker variants. Other zeds have a chance to produce zombie pheromone on dissect but in my experience it’s too small to justify time wasted on dissection.

Is USB hack-PRO blacklisted in experimental? I’ve cleaned out 2 small towns, one mid-sized one, two science labs, research facility and two standard labs and have yet to see one…

HackPro is still in vanilla experimental it’s just fairly hard to find. Look in trash containers or at the Regional Dump (this place is the most likely). They do not appear as loot in any of the lab versions btw.

Thanks, been watching your videos lately and discovered the cardboard box cheez. Doesn’t work on updated turrets though, mf-ers return fire

Works fine. Just gotta use a high enough caliber gun to kill the turret in one shot. Pretty much any shotgun or .223 or higher round will do it. Not as sure with 9mm. Precise aim from 5 spaces rarely misses even with low/no skill.

Yeah, it will work if you can get it one shot. I had assumed I was safe from fire so I plinked it once with the 5x50 penetrator and it nearly took my head off

Why not just use an inactive zed + time? Because of ammo?

Heh, back when turrets had 100 rounds off ammo that could work but current turrets have upwards of 1600 rounds.

That still works but requires more self-reactivating targets to do the job quickly enough. I know that it works great for Talons because I’ve seen it happen many times, so unless the bots have way less ammo it should work for new turrets too.
Although I could see it being long enough to still be tedious for someone well into world exploration phase.

Got a bit more of a niche question - how do you make sure you’re getting all the right nutrients as a carnivore? I eat ALL the organs, I try and keep my diet varied, I have a multivitamin and a calcium tablet every morning, I eat but don’t gorge myself as I go throughout the day, but… every morning I wake up feeling like crap. How do I fix that?

Also, a more recent issue - is there a way to accurately tell what an Artifact does? I got one from a dungeon not too long ago and while the wiki says they do good and bad things, this one only gives me a message for a negative effect, and it’s a piece of armor, so it doesn’t (I don’t think) have an active.

You’re experiencing poor hidden health stat NOT vitamin deficiencies (well at least not on experimental builds since Vitamins have no negative effects currently). The hidden health stat and vitamins have no connection and are entirely independent systems.

The message you get when you wake up is a general indicator of the status of your immune system (hidden health stat). You increase it through long term food eating that is ‘healthy’ (salads, soups, nuts, v8, etc). Gamma Globulin shots will give you a fast boost and Leukocyte Breeder CBM keeps it maxed as long as it is powered. Carnivores have it tough in this regard and basically just need wait for it to naturally return to the default 0 status while avoiding things that cause it to drop (radiation, infection, junk foods, etc).

Ah - got it! Well, honestly it’s better to know that it’s something that’s (mostly) out of my hands at this point. Would parasites reduce it? I’ve had a stomach bug for a while here that I’m working on getting rid of, so I’d be ecstatic if removing that would also make me feel better.

As long as nothing has changed since I last updated, even as a carnivore you should still be able to drink herbal tea, pine needle tea and protein drinks.
You might even be able to drink protein shakes but I’m not sure on that one since the character I’ve got has the “Hates Fruits” and “Hates Vegetables” traits on top of carnivore and so will have an allergic reaction to them.

As for Artifacts, unless there is some way to check though your save file there is no in game method of telling exactly what an artifact will do beyond the messages it gives you and your own observations. They are a mixed bag, sometimes you’ll get good stuff with no draw backs or ones you can live with, sometimes you’ll get all bad traits.

Will the ‘usefulness’ of the Artifact be portrayed in the value at all - as in, if it has good traits, will it be shown to be worth money? Just asking because the one I have is worth $0.00, so if there’s any relation, then that’d help.

All of them are valued at $0.00 from what I can tell, I’ll give you one piece of advice and it’s the same one I give to everyone. Don’t “use” active artifacts, there are very few passive effects that will kill you and none that I’m aware of that will do it instantly but some of the active ones can be really nasty. It’s still worth giving them a look since artifacts can have both passive and active effects at the same time though.

This is one I picked up a little while ago, +2 to all stats as a passive effect, it has an active ability too but I’ve got no intention of ever finding out what it does :stuck_out_tongue:

What’s even the use for all those “USB with this or that soft”?

AFAIK currently the only useful USB stick is the HackPRO, you can ignore the rest of them.

What’s the deal with the new EMP bionic? It seems it fires in two steps, where the target first takes a small amount of damage before the primary(?) attack fires. In a sense it’s acting a bit like a grenade, rather than a pulse weapon.

The problem with this is that a turret is able to detect the attack and return fire before being destroyed, which is pretty damn unfortunate.

They’re quest items for NPCs.

How do you smash cars nowadays? I remember being able to bash a vehicle to bits to get scrap; is that not an option anymore (for some reason), or do I need to do something other than (s)mash?

You can get photos and recipes from usb drops, use them with an eink tablet.
