Picking up small amounts of items

I know you can drop a number of items from a larger pile of items that you’re carrying. Is there any way to pick up a small number of items from a large pile on the ground? I have a massive pile of batteries in my vehicles storage, and they take up so much volume I can no longer put them in my inventory. I’ve tried using the same “enter number of items you want, then the letter of the item you want” and it doesn’t work.

I am not aware of a way to pick up a limited number of an item. You should be able to unwield whatever you are holding, which will allow you to pick up any volume up to your weight limit. You will then have to unwield the batteries if you want to drop a limited number of them however. I like to put my spare batteries in battery doubled UPS, keeps them more managable.
