That would be fantastic as we now have the encumberance slots ‘L.Arm’ and ‘R.Arm’, plus you could make some sort of spiked shield which deflects a bit of damage back at the zombies, perhaps.
On one part i think the shields would suffer a signifigant amount of damage… from all the things smashfacing into it. but i do thing shields would be glorious until you get attacked by a hulk :P… i think how shields could work is that they stop cutting damage completly or have extremly high resistance values and bashing damage over shield block automatically go onto arm holding shield
Some random things I’ve been thinking about:
-CBM that functions as UPS. Hard to find, harder to install.
-Ammunition found in random amounts instead of 20/50/100/etc. This might not be feasible to code, idk.
-Guns should be found in a randomized condition, especially if found on a zombie. Repair kits need some love!
-While I’m on the subject of guns, simple cleaning kits (oil/solvent/rags) that don’t use batteries would be neat, provided some guns needed to be cleaned periodically.
-CBMs could have a small risk of being damaged, destroyed, or rendered nonfunctional, requiring extensive knowledge in first aid/mechanics/electronics and supplies or a specialized CBM repair kit to fix.
-Active laser turrets, rifle-caliber turrets, plasma turrets, directed-EMP turrets, night-vision turrets! EVERYBODY GETS A TURRET!
-As mentioned in a post above, the M2 Browning .50 BMG needs a buff. It is extremely heavy and fired from a fixed position, so I don’t think it should have much inaccuracy or spread. The thing is rare enough and difficult enough to transport/feed that it should be a horde-killer if you actually manage to set it up.
-Power Armor Zombies
Some noobish questions for Kevin:
-What happened to items rusting? I’ve had it happen a few times, but not recently. Was it problematic? Finding a soldier’s corpse in a swamp clutching an empty, rusted 1911 would be awesome, imo.
-What about items having .5 increments of volume? 1.5, 3.5, etc. I have a feeling this would be game-breakingly-difficult to code.
Shields are a concluded subject, and I sincerelly think they’re off the table. The reason is your ability to access the inventory even though you’re wielding an item (and anything really heavy for that matter) and keep pushing away the opposition. The off-hand is also used to grab stuff and pull it, creating obstacles for stupid Zs.
I just wanted to ask, humbly - Whatever happened to having pets, mutating them and consequentially riding the beast?
Ever heard of strapped shields, vultures?
Still waiting on pet jabberwocks.

But how are you going too have a pet Jabberwock?

I shall tame my jabberwocky with a truckload of tainted flesh and call him Bob. Then ride him into the infected wastelands, trampling over the corpses of zombie hulks as if they were vermin.

IM WITH JAKE i whant a pet Jabberwock…sound very hard but still would be cool
Already exists. item_groups behind_counter (behind the counter at gas stations, etc), LMOE_guns (in the LMOE shelters) and homeguns (the basements with shelves full of weapons) have “gunswithammo” set True.
That’s odd, I’ve never found a gun with ammunition already loaded, even in those locations. Maybe I’m just unlucky of there’s a bug or something.
@FSN123 - Ever heard of strapped shields, vultures?
It would mean the inevitable introduction of the off-hand solution; you know that dual-wielding is off the table, right?
Indeed.
What about shields as weapons? I mean, that is basically what a buckler is: what shields became after armour was so heavy that a shield didn’t really do much for protection anymore but were still great for bashing people with…
What about strap-on tools that can be used while worn. I imagine that with sufficient bracing as, lets use a screwdriver for example, could be strapped to the back of the hand and operated while holding something else… You could even stab people with it…

Long trenchcoats. Something for the legs.
Splitting encumberment and coverage into separate things could also be a good idea. (Buuut that’s a pretty big change.)
Long trenchcoat. Covers torso, arms, legs. Encumbers torso and arms.
combine an MBR vest with a trenchcoat… = Profit?
Jabberhulks
Military Hulks
Zambies beaning able to stand in the same square with another zambies.
Spiders/wasps and such taking ogre houses
Oh god ;-;
Handling empty/broken windows as other terrain, but with fewer loading capacity; allowing for the triage of longer hose crafting, so running water can be introduced.
999 of them, with a dragon on top? [/dwarffortress]
Oh, but they can be together, forever.
On a pile under that Zombear of theirs.
