Magiclysm: A Total Fantasy Overhaul

I haven’t been able to use Smite yet, so I can’t say for sure, but the issue doesn’t say anything about a message about the attack reflecting off the monsters’ hide like Ice Spike did. The issue description says that the user eventually got Smite to do some damage, but it’s rare. I’ve yet to get Ice Spike to do any to non-Zombie monsters.

I tested it on a basic zombie and it worked fine. There weren’t anymore Giant Web Spiders to test it again, but there were Giant Black Widows in a basement and they’ve also proven immune to Ice Spike.

does someone knows if the enemies killed by summoned monsters count towards your kills?, so far animated blade doesnt

Had negative focus and Spellcraft 0 and tried to cast Finger Firelighter. It succeeded, but I lost experience instead of gaining it. This game is brilliant.

Also, does anyone know what happens if you Phase Door into solid rock? Does it insta-gib you or can you try to gather enough mana to attempt another teleport to get out? What if it teleports you further in instead and through a long string of bad rolls you can’t get out before you starve to death?

you can’t phase door into solid rock. not sure what i should do about the negative experience for focus though, i think that’s a bug with focus going negative rather than spellcasting exp being wonky

I got Taze and Laze, but they’re grayed out and I can’t use them. Is there something I’m missing? I can’t find anything in the spellbook’s description or it’s description of the spells that implies what I need, and I can’t even select the spells in the casting list to see if there’s any information there.

I believe those use bionic power, rather than mana

Found the Tome of Hollow Earth and learned Shardstorm. Upon using it, I instantly took 10 Torso Damage. Did I roll a natural 1 or something, or is that going to happen every time?

see the casting cost?, for the minion necromancer spells you use limb health instead of mana. AFAIK, you cant get harmed by the AOE of your own spells, unless it leaves electric sparks around

I debugged a test to make sure I wasn’t losing my mind. Shardstorm does cost mana. The range is self and the spell radius is 1. It increases by .25 per level so at level 3 it could concevably hit everything in the immediate area, but I’m reasonably sure the range is going to be a filled circle, rather than a growing ring

Casting it did damage and caused pain.

I’ve accidentally hit myself with Hoary Blast on three occasions; once when it leveled up during a series of successive casts and the range increased, again when I realized that it couldn’t be cast through walls, and yet again when I found out that fences count as walls. Hoary Blast and Shardstorm have only ever done Torso damage, so I assume that all spells are the same way. With that in mind, I sincerely hope I never run into a hostile spellcaster NPC.

The Book of Trees has Vegetative Grasp, which is an interesting case in that AoE is greater than range, so no matter how far away from yourself you target, you can’t escape its AoE.

Additionally, both numbers increase simultaneously, so every time you can cast it one tile further away, it’s AoE goes up one tile. It’s actually the first AoE spell I got, and getting hit by it never did anything, so I assumed that you couldn’t be damaged by your own AoE myself, until I got Hoary Frost.

maybe you should report it as a bug in the magiclysm github, i remember something similar happening with a root spell from the druid, affecting the player when it shouldnt

magiclysm bugs should be reported on the regular github.
I see that shardstorm does not have “self” as a valid target, so that is indeed not intended to hit yourself when you cast it. spells can hit yourself, but that needs to be a valid target.

ohhh, that explains a lot of things…

How do you fight a Troll? I started a new game and there’s one 55 squares northwest of the starting shelter. Would starting a fire scare it off? Will it fall into pits or walk around them?

that could work, but you would need a lot of fire to offset its regeneration and a lot of pitfalls to keep it at a safe distance, you could always lure it against a mob on zombies and kill it while its weakened.

you don’t fight a troll with a brand new minted character. a troll is a lot like a hulk with regeneration.

Hah! Reminds me of Skyrim, SURE you could avoid the troll and sneak on by, but could you live with yourself knowing you didn’t die a thousands times to kill a single troll; Just to prove something to yourself?

I’d think not!

Am I reading the code right? It appears that greater mana efficiency is only available as a starting trait?

Maybe, iirc there are some that can be obtained from elf, plant and slime mutations, but i think those are the one ones without the “greater”

Yeah, the Json has no trees listed for GMEfficiency
