Nah, just have, like, a failed computer check result in an “ice generation containment breach” and then a nearby door is open. Inside is a small room full of “ice block” which is a creature that reproduces and makes a new one next to it ever 300 tics OR, if there are no open tiles, it “smashes” anything nearby that might be breakable (like the player).
Call it “living ice” - it just expands and expands! It’s totally doable and would be super awesome. Heck, maybe I’ll just build one tonight for you to use.
Pretty sure that rule doesn’t apply when the posts are more than a week apart.
I can totally get behind that idea, and it fits very well into the whole thing. When I get to implementing my freeze gun, I will look to see if I can also freeze into blocks of ice items/furniture/zombies. That would be hella cool.
What about a sample of Ice-9?
I imagine that’s a thing from some sci-fi? I am not familiar with it.
Even if there were zombies in there make them just normal zombies but of course a bit frosty so that when they hit you it causes more bashing damage than a normal zombie would due to the weight of the frosted limbs? Of course you know where I am getting at with this I hope. Not really sure what to call them but it could just be like the minor enemy of the area.
The funny thing is, you don’t NEED the monsters to be more dangerous, the environment is incredibly hostile.
You have to have huge amounts of cold weather gear to survive in it.

And when Kevin and I agree on something…that’s pretty conclusive.

It’s a form of water that’s stable at room temperature, and converts water it comes in contact with into more Ice-9

I looked it up, it’s water that melts at around 50C, so it’s pretty much always frozen. Since it converts water into Ice-9, if a human/animal/etc touches it, the water in their tissues freeze and they die. It’s pretty darn evil ;p I will take note of it, but it might be too much of a player killer to go in the game.
Perhaps however it could be used as lore in the labs research projects and stuff.
Also it opens the posibility for a water meatabolism mutation.
“Your metabolism has mutated to extract energy from the convertion of normal water into polywater”
Thermodynamics puke pretty strange results when feed exotic substances
Zombies preserved by ice, if they follow you into a warm area they melt due to their bodies being decomposed. Would be funny to see. Kinda like the first patients turned into Zeds by scientists frozen to keep studies of.
I only read the first page but just wanted to comment a few things.
I like the Wendigo virus as part a theme for Ice labs. Going to blood filter it later for sure.
If that doesn’t work, at least make a finale against the mother parasite so I can extract a cure from it using a sample from it and an unfrozen computer. (Science skills, closing ice portals, fixing air conditioning for room, warming console other ways, etc.)
People with low dex will slip alot on certain icey tiles?
Rooms with fairy Slyphs, frozen scientists, and zombies? Sure.
Spawning tough but slow ice zombies during winter? Please do.
There should also be a blow torch-esque item created for this dungeon too! It can have all sorts of applications outside also.
