How to open broken vending machines

The description for broken vending machines suggests that you can just brake them open to get the contents in them. but in game you can’t deconstruct them and you don’t get the contents if you smash them just the parts.

So, is there a way to get the food/drink inside vending machines without having to pay for it?

Every time I wanted the contents of a vending machine, I just bashed it. Unless something broke them recently, try taking a cash card with you just to check if there’s actually anything inside before bashing them open.
